Chapter 6 - The rookie with ego

"It's you!"

When the boy who was defeated by Torchic yesterday appeared in front of him, Bruce secretly thought that his premonition was correct.

After seeing Bruce, the boy suddenly smiled and said, "Thanks! I've now become an official apprentice, and soon I'll be able to learn Psychic!"

William stepped aside with his arms crossed and asked, "Do you know each other?"

Upon hearing this, the boy told William the whole story of what happened yesterday.

"So that's how it turned out…"

After listening, William nodded thoughtfully, a trace of admiration shining in his eyes. He smiled and said, "In that case, let's have a duel."

"Good Gym Leader." The boy nodded quickly, then raised his eyes to look at Bruce, his eyes filled with fierce fighting spirit.

This must be a test prepared for him by the Gym Leader…

I'll definitely win!

Bruce also nodded and stood at opposite sides of the battlefield with the boy, looking at each other from a distance.

This is his first Pokémon battle, so it's a matter of playing it safe.

Then the boy took the initiative to reveal his identity. His name was Diego, and he was a graduate of the First High School in Fairbay City, South.

"Go, Torchic."

"Chirp!"

Torchic stepped forward and stood in front of Bruce with piercing eyes.

"Meet the Pokémon I've trained, go, Starly."

The corners of Diego's mouth curved, his face filled with excitement as he threw a Poké Ball and shouted loudly.

"Crazy!"

With a whistle, Starly spread its wings and flew high, hovering in the air over the field, looking down at the Torchic standing on the ground.

Starly is a small gray bird with a light gray belly and high feathers on its head.

[Pokémon: Starly (Normal/Flying)

Ability: Keen Eye

Qualification: Occupation

Level: lv5 (Rookie level)]

Bruce was relatively familiar with Starly, which is a well-known domesticated bird with a wide distribution.

Although it's common, it can still be quite competitive if it successfully evolves into its final form, Staraptor.

Since it was an impromptu match, there were no referees or spectators, only William standing aside.

Bruce looked at Starly floating in the air, thinking about the strategy for the battle.

Although Torchic has a level advantage, Starly has aerial supremacy and more initiative in battle, which can completely mitigate Torchic's slight level advantage.

Yes, in the real world, being able to fly is simply more beneficial than not being able to fly.

Groudon: "???"

The two Pokémon have no attribute restriction relationship, and skill selection can be more flexible.

Of course, at the current levels of these two Pokémon, they haven't learned some skills yet.

"The skills that Torchic currently masters include Scratch, Growl, Ember, Baton Pass, Agility, Quick Attack, and Flame Charge," Bruce thought to himself.

After training Torchic, Bruce discovered that there was an additional column for "Skills" in its data panel, where he could see the skills Torchic currently possesses.

It can be said that Torchic, who is only at level seven, has very comprehensive skills and has both melee and long-range options, in addition to changing skills.

As for [Baton Pass], [Flame Charge], and [Agility], they should be Torchic's genetic skills.

Thoughts passed, and the battle was imminent.

Diego exhaled deeply, excitement on his face, and shouted: "Starly, Quick Attack!"

Quick Attack, a classic initial move.

"Crazy!"

After the words fell, Starly's eyes froze, and it flapped its wings fiercely, dashing in front of Torchic, its Quick Attack glowing with a faint white light.

[Quick Attack] is a priority move, and Starly is faster than Torchic, taking the initiative to attack.

Suddenly, Starly crashed hard into Torchic. The latter suffered the impact, its complexion changed, and its body staggered back uncontrollably.

Bruce remained very calm, knowing that Torchic couldn't avoid this move; after all, he isn't Ash and doesn't have legendary, god-level skills like quick dodging.

"Ember!"

"Chirp!"

Torchic received the Trainer's instruction and fiercely glared at Starly, who had just hurt itself. It opened its mouth, and orange flames erupted, instantly spewing hot embers, attacking Starly!

The two Pokémon were close at this moment, and since their levels were very low, it was impossible to dodge in time.

Boom!

Starly was accurately hit by Ember, and its chest was scorched. It staggered and nearly lost its balance, almost falling to the ground.

Seeing this scene, Bruce's eyes blinked, and he realized that Starly had sustained more serious injuries.

Torchic's special attack value and defense are better than Starly's, and with a two-level advantage, it can deal greater damage.

"Starly, show them how good we are! Tackle!"

Seeing this, Diego wasn't discouraged; instead, he stretched his arms and shouted, looking like a passionate child.

Obviously, [Tackle] and [Quick Attack] are both attack methods for Starly.

Bruce's expression remained unchanged as he calmly said, "Flame Charge, solve it."

Upon hearing Bruce's voice, William raised an eyebrow and murmured quietly, "Have you really mastered Flame Charge?"

"Chirp!"

Torchic let out a threatening cry, its eyes sharp, and a surge of blazing flames erupted, quickly enveloping its entire body as the surrounding temperature began to rise slowly.

Immediately after, Torchic took a bold step forward and charged straight at Starly!

At the same time, Starly flapped its wings and lunged toward Torchic!

Boom!

The two Pokémon collided, and in an instant, a small explosion occurred, raising dust and smoke.

Bruce had calm eyes and silently observed the center of the field.

Yes!

When the dust and smoke dissipated, Starly lay on the ground, unable to do anything, its eyes swirling.

"Chirp!"

Panting lightly, Torchic stood in front of Starly, holding its head high, and its soft orange fur was in disarray.

The result had been decided.

"Torchic gains ten experience points."

At that moment, a cold, unfamiliar voice sounded in Bruce's mind. His expression froze for a moment, but he regained his composure in an instant.

Immediately after, Bruce calmly approached Torchic and said with a gentle smile, "Torchic, you did very well."

Diego also ran over and picked up the unconscious Starly in his arms, showing a sense of shame.

"Not bad; it was a very exciting battle."

William slowly approached, smiled, applauded, and said, "After the battle, the most important thing is to heal the Pokémon."

Common injuries can be treated with Healing Spray, while serious injuries and dangerous situations require a trip to the Pokémon Center.

Diego's Starly had lost its ability to fight. After being treated with a healing spray, he took Starly back to rest.

"What does it feel like to fight?" William asked.

"Not bad," Bruce replied, nodding.

"That's good." William nodded with a smile, and his eyes reflected the image of the black-haired boy carefully tending to Torchic's wounds.
