Huff.
Lian expelled a burst of flames.
Seeing the defeated Vileplume, he approached cautiously and eyed the purple Toxic Orb atop its head but refrained from touching it.
As a Poison-type Pokemon, Vileplume was immune to poisoning, but Lian wasn't. Touching the Toxic Orb would instantly expose him to its venom, plunging him into a severe toxic state.
Wait, what else?
Casually glancing around, Lian noticed a pile of Toxic Orbs in a corner, thankfully untouched by falling debris. Had they been crushed, releasing their toxins, all the Pokemon present, including Kalia and Bobby, could have been poisoned.
Meanwhile, Kalia cleared away the scattered stones on the ground and joined Lian, focusing not on the incapacitated Vileplume but rather on the Toxic Orbs.
Encountering these Toxic Orbs during this adventure proved to be the most significant gain. With the danger now neutralized, it was time to distribute the rewards.
"Ninetales, use Safeguard," Kalia instructed. The previous Safeguard had dissipated, so casting it again would allow her to safely pick up the Toxic Orbs without risk of being poisoned.
Ninetales promptly activated Safeguard, enveloping Kalia with a protective shield to safeguard her from any toxic intrusion.
Feeling reassured under the shield's protection, Kalia reached towards the top of Vileplume, ready to retrieve the Toxic Orb.
Lian observed Kalia's actions, wondering if it would be safe for her. Humans do not possess the strong immunity of Pokemon; even with Antidote, being exposed to such toxicity could cause significant discomfort.
Fortunately, Safeguard's protective barrier proved effective for Kalia as well. As she picked up the Toxic Orb, wisps of purple toxic gas attempted to penetrate her skin but were immediately filtered out by the shield.
Kalia retrieved a cloth bag from her backpack and placed the Toxic Orb inside. Then, noticing more Toxic Orbs lying in the corner which had gone unnoticed earlier due to the lack of sunlight, everything became clear now that daylight streamed in.
"Uncle Bobby, since we discovered these Toxic Orbs together, let's divide them equally," Kalia suggested.
Without Bobby finding this ruin, they wouldn't have obtained the Toxic Orbs at all. Conversely, without Kalia and Charizard, defeating the Vileplume would have been impossible.
Considering both Kalia and Charizard contributed significantly, with Charizard eliminating numerous Poison-type Pokémon along the way, she felt entitled to half of the Toxic Orbs.
"No need for that. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been able to enter here. I didn't contribute much; receiving half would be too generous. One orb is enough for me," Bobby shook his head, unwilling to accept more than one Toxic Orb.
"Alright then, just one for you. So, you take one, and I'll take the remaining four. However, there's no need for the five thousand Alliance Coin payment anymore; let's consider this as compensation instead."
Kalia pondered briefly and agreed, not wanting to push further. She took four orbs, and thus waived her claim to the five thousand Alliance Coins.
The value of a single Toxic Orb far exceeds five thousand Alliance Coins. For Trainers specializing in Poison-type Pokémon, even spending one hundred thousand Alliance Coins on such an orb wouldn't seem excessive.
Of course, one hundred thousand is quite exaggerated, but these orbs are indeed highly prized items. Selling them all would undoubtedly bring substantial profit.
Even Kalia was surprised at how lucrative her first mission turned out to be. With the successful sale of the Toxic Orbs, she likely wouldn't need to accept any more missions for some time, as it would comfortably cover her daily expenses.
Lian's eyes sparkled as he gazed at the bag containing the Toxic Orb, envisioning the immense wealth it represented - this was truly a fortune-making opportunity.
Kalia placed the Toxic Orb securely inside the cloth bag and remarked, "With the removal of the Toxic Orb from these ruins, Poison-type Pokémon should become less prevalent here."
"That could be beneficial," Bobby nodded. "Without so many Poison-type Pokémon, perhaps the mushroom forest will recover its normal state."
Both their moods were uplifted. Uncle Bobby enjoyed adventures but wasn't overly concerned with material wealth; he cherished the thrill of exploration rather than the rewards.
This time, Charizard's overwhelming strength allowed them to overpower obstacles effortlessly. Initially, Bobby had planned to rely on his adventuring experience, carefully avoiding all dangers along the way.
While the direct approach was quicker, it diminished some of the enjoyment. Fortunately, the outcome was excellent - they defeated Vileplume and obtained the rare Toxic Orb.
As they exited the ruins, the absence of the Toxic Orb, which was the source of Poison-type Pokémon infesting the red mushroom forest, seemed to already improve the surrounding environment.
Of course, this was merely an illusion; in reality, upon exiting the ruins, Kalia would face numerous Poison-type Pokémon that would never allow the Toxic Orb to be taken away.
However, with Vileplume unable to defeat Lian, these other Poison-type Pokémon, hesitant to enter the ruins, stood no chance against him either.
A few swift Air Slashes dispatched the leading Poison-type Pokémon instantly, highlighting just how formidable Vileplume truly was. Without attribute advantage, defeating it without Sunny Day's assistance would not have been so straightforward for Lian.
With their leaders swiftly eliminated, the remaining Pokémon promptly fled, and any attempts to snatch the Toxic Orb were quickly thwarted by Lian.
Soon, they left the red mushroom forest, marking Kalia's mission as successfully completed. Once Uncle Bobby confirmed its completion, the League would officially close the task.
"Uncle, I'll be off now." Kalia bid her farewell, preparing to leave Holan City. With the mission accomplished, she could now explore potential buyers for the Toxic Orb.
Swish Swish.
With wings flapping, Lian lifted off carrying Kalia, soaring towards Rockcliff City.
In the sky, as Lian's wings propelled them forward, Kalia leaned against his back, gazing at the scenery below while contemplating how to handle the batch of Toxic Orbs.
"Charizard, what if I contact Sean? I remember several students from the Ruby Pokémon Academy have Poison-type Pokémon. With Sean's help, selling these shouldn't be an issue," Kalia suggested.
Sean was the only advanced class student at the Ruby Pokémon Academy whom Kalia knew well. By sending a letter, if Sean agrees, considering the financial resources of those students, disposing of the Toxic Orbs should be effortless.
For ordinary Trainers, there would be little need for Toxic Orbs, and even if desired, most couldn't afford them. Kalia didn't want to sell them at rock-bottom prices; it would simply not be worth it.
Four Toxic Orbs, even priced at 30,000 Alliance Coins each, would amount to over 120,000 Alliance Coins. This sum would sustain Kalia financially for quite some time, possibly eliminating her need to earn more money for half a year.
