William found the guards patrolling around the village, making sure no magical beast or bandit showed up.
Those things usually didn't happen, but it was a good idea to be careful. One could never know.
When he approached these guards, they glanced at each other, then back to William.
"What do you want?" one of them said.
"I've heard from the tavern guy that you're having some beast problems. I want to help."
"And before you say anything, I'm not doing this out of good will. I just want a beast carcass to pay for my tavern room and drinks…"
The guards seemed to appreciate William's honesty.
"You look so powerful but you don't have any money with you. How is that even possible?"
A powerful warrior was always capable of earning money. That was why everyone got suspicious when William said he was damn poor.
"I lost everything with gambles."
The first excuse he found. And surprisingly enough, it worked. One of the guards pointed at the other.
