Chapter 27 - What if Irene and Sonja

I came out of the RV to hear Victor talking to my brother. He said that he is on his way over so keep me occupied. I quickly sterilised the RV. I got my belongings and flew at top speed to the Citadel. I called Irene on my cellphone to tell her what was going on. She asked me to come and not be afraid. She and her family will handle it. I arrived at the blink of an eye. I saw Irene yell at her brother for making up silly stories. The other end of the line wanted to know what was going on. Karolina grabbed the phone and explained, "My son is a drug addict. He has taken the new drug called Ice and he called in a state delirium." Shaw declared, "I will send someone over to confirm." I came and pinned him down as the others injected the substance into his system. By the time he showed up Victor was rambling like a maniac. He climbed the top of the RV and screamed about flying Howler monkeys. They got down on their knees with their hands interlaced together. The door to the RV was already open so they looked around and apologized politely for listening to a bad tip. Sonja accepted the apology and requested they help her get him down before they called the ambulance. Shaw asked politely, "Why do you need an ambulance?" He had to jump out of the RV imitating Viking war cry. He landed on the side of his face. His shoulder shattered on impact and Shaw took a breath with the air of frustration, "I see what you mean?" Sonja looked at his name tag, "Shaw Turner. You are Alexi's brother. She is in my dorm. We are friends. She is staying here with us." Shaw asked politely, "She's here. She went to get firewood so we could enjoy a barbecue. If you wait a few minutes she should be here." Shaw tilted his head and ordered his men to wait a minute. I quietly snuck back into the woods and came back with sticks.

I came and dropped the bundle, "Hey guys did you see the idiot who was roaming around the woods. He was high as a kite. He climbed a tree and jumped off making bird noises. He landed butt first and he got up to try again. I was as quiet as possible because I have no clue what he will do."I looked up, "Hey big brother! What's the occasion? Did mom ask you to check up on me." Shaw sighed, "Bad tip. He called saying he knows someone with superhuman abilities." I shook my head, "Irene and I were talking about a girl who was expelled from school. She was preaching about bionics. She said something about scientists would make a scientific break through. I guess someone was eavesdropping." Shaw stared for a moment and brought a dog over. I gave him a hug and stroked his shiny coat. The dog didn't bark all it did was sit obediently and let me play with it. I asked, "Is this my birthday present?" He stood awkwardly, "What! No I brought him over to see if you were one of them. Clearly you are not." I took a deep breath, "You are so charming Shaw." He gave me a look, "I am working. So I guess being serious is necessary." I replied sarcastically, "It really is boring to be in that uniform. Tell me when was the last time you had fun?" He answered, "When I am off duty." I retorted, "Which is never" the next soldier started snickering. Shaw asked me, "You look good. New meds?" I shrugged, "Gene therapy. It is a trial drug. Uncle J got it for me. He had to pull a lot of string to squeeze me in" he gave me a nod before ordering his men to move to the next location. I yelled at his retreating back, "Tell mom I am ok. I miss her and I want visitation rights." He gave me a weird look before he walked away. The soldiers gave him a pat of the back as they boarded their Hummers.

Sonja smiled,"Sunlight is the best medicine." I smiled, "The doctor will tell Shaw that he didn't create the story of his imagination. He said it because he heard or saw something." Sonja nodded her head, "Hence the story about Molly the menace." I wrinkled my nose, "She smells like grease. And her parts make a subtly squeaking noise." After that we went into the city to get some meat. Mom and Batou were investigating a homicide. Irene and others saw mom and commented about how beautiful she was. I was in the meat section when Shaw showed up. I asked him why he was following me. He replied red faced, "Funny I could ask you the same thing." I pointed at the rotisserie chicken and answered, "I am here to get somethings for breakfast. I am making Quesadillas. Pickled peppers, pickled vegetables, diced tomatoes, a drizzle of melted mozzarella cheese, caramelized onions and rotisserie chicken on a hard shell tortilla is fabulous." He lost interest, "Sounds fascinating. Have you seen mom?" I shrugged, "Yes I did. But the officer stopped me. He explained that mom was investigating a murder so she shouldn't be disturbed. I will call her later." He gave it some thought and walked away. His expression left a lasting impression on me. So I followed him wherever he was going. He talked to his superior about using me to distract mom so he can collect the incriminating evidence that would jeopardize the mission. The murder was an accident. They followed a bad tip and accidentally killed one of their supporters who happens to be a confidential spy. They needed to fix this quickly or the word will spread that the army is killing their informants.

I happily walked over and hypnotized the officer to deliver a message. Whatever happens make sure the evidence reaches the police station. A confidential informant mentioned that it has something to do with the army. I changed my look. I also made him turn off his body cam before I gave him the instructions. He passed on the message before Shaw found me. I was at the check out counter. I paid the man with the money the clone gave me. He watched me stuff the vegetables and a few other items into my backpack while carrying the meat by hand. The others did the same. We walked out and Shaw asked me if I wanted to meet mom. I told him that I texted her and she asked me not to disturb her. He stared for a moment before following me out. He asked me if I could help him. I answered, "I am not interested in your death cult." The superior angrily growled, " We are not a death cult. We are simply trying to restore the natural order." I shook my head as we hailed a cab. The elderly man muttered, "Plan B" we made it to the RV and I heard there were renegades who broke into the police station and they were spraying the place with bullets. I quietly snuck out and Irene came too. The soldiers were having trouble reaching the forensics department. I asked Irene to stay hidden behind the lines. She gave me a pair of bugged glasses so she can live stream the event. I waded through the crowd and made myself invisible. Then I flew in and busted the door on the roof. I ran downstairs and quickly took off their masks. The officer saw their faces and mom was devastated to see her own son amongst the bad guys. The elderly man ordered the men to open fire. I snatched their weapons and threw them out the window. I found a place to set the glasses so I can kick ass. I made myself visible and walked out. I told him that his games are over so he had better go home. Mom yelled, "Lexi. Come here right now. It is not safe. They have a bomb." I smiled, "The bomb is not in this building anymore. It is in the ocean." They blinked and I swiftly moved the bomb to the ocean and came back before they had a chance to register anything.

The police came and tried to arrest them. Most of them surrendered but the old man had other ideas. He tried to get the upper hand. I swung a chair and he fell to the floor. He got up and tried to use a knife. I made my torso and all the parts covered with clothes into the beast. So his knife snapped in two upon contact. I did learn self defense so I used what I knew and incapacitated him. Mom cuffed him and took him away. I tried to walk out and one of the soldiers pulled a small caliber bullet and fired at mom. I got in front and the bullet hit me like a baseball bat. It stung for a moment and then I was fine. I got up and watched as he was taken away. I tried to leave but mom wouldn't let me. She and Batou can sense something was different and so did the others. It was like they knew but they were too afraid to speak it. I was taken to a janitor's closet. Mom asked me bluntly, "What happened to you." I told her everything and she was speechless. Batou and the chief were speechless too. Mom asked me about the non-humans and I told her, "The werewolves have been eating horse meat and the vampires have been consuming artificial blood. So where was the threat. They want to make their leaders immortal so they rule us with an iron fist. You don't have to feel guilty if you already told everyone your plan." I pointed them in the right direction and went out. Irene gave me a hug and we both walked towards the garbage dump in the alleyway. I picked her up and levitated a few inches. She happily giggled as I told her to hold on. I looked down to see my mother and the other officers staring. I gave them a subtle bow and flew up at sonic speed. There was a slight condensation but that disappeared as we made it back to the RV. I stood guard outside and listened to the creatures of the night announce their presence.

The next morning mom came and asked me if I knew anything about non-humans. I gave her the general direction of their leader Cain. I promised her that he will explain everything and show her proof. The vampire leaders were in the opposite direction and they are slightly apprehensive but I am sure they won't refuse if she explained to them why she was there. She took me with her and I asked her if I was under arrest. She didn't say a word. I stayed still as a corpse and mom showed signs of fear. Batou asked me if I bit anyone. I grinned, "Blood bags and proud of it. I trained myself so I need to feed once every eight weeks. The blood carries information and it has educated me better than any school." Batou cut his finger and gave it in my direction. I swiped the blood and licked it before I closed my eyes. I told him everything that I saw and I spelled out his lock code. He was surprised. I grinned,"Vampires are able to see everything after eating but they are allergic to sunlight. Werewolves are season trackers and they are allergic to silver." Mom finally found her voice and asked, "Did you lose control when you became this?" I casually answered, "I didn't lose control. I remember sitting in the observatory and flying around before trying to sleep. I haven't slept a wink since I injected this thing. I only ever drank from a blood bag. I have never sucked anyone. I can smell blood when someone cuts themselves but I never feel the need to chase after the person to drain them dry." Mom gave me a nod as we drove to find the vampire's hide.
