Michael shrugged, "I don't think so. While I'm not trying to hide my identity, I also don't want to waste time. I caught the criminal for you; now I'll be on my way."
As he began to float into the air, Lance, startled, instinctively fired his weapon.
Bang! Bang!
The bullets struck Michael's protective energy shield, harmlessly bouncing away.
Michael's expression darkened. "Really?" He muttered. "I saved your daughter and delivered Somers to you, and you still shoot at me?"
He snorted disdainfully before vanishing into thin air.
Lance exhaled shakily, realizing his shirt was drenched in sweat.
After leaving the docks, Michael quickly reunited with Oliver.
"How'd it go?" Oliver asked.
"Somers is caught and handed over to the police," Michael replied.
"Good," Oliver said, relieved. But his brow furrowed. "Even so, I doubt there's enough evidence to convict him."
"Don't worry—I've got it covered. Just wait for the good news," Michael reassured him with a confident smile.
Hearing that, Oliver relaxed, his trust in Michael bolstered. Michael received a system notification, noting a 5% increase in their friendship level.
"Only 5%?" Michael muttered to himself, slightly disappointed. "Guess I'll need to work harder in the next few days."
Later, Michael returned to the hotel where Carol was waiting. He recounted the night's events to her briefly. Carol listened intently, clearly enjoying hearing about her boyfriend's heroics.
"Honey," Carol said, clutching his arm and looking up at him with a coy smile, "I have something to tell you, but you promise you won't get mad, okay?"
Michael raised an eyebrow. "What is it? Tell me first."
"I... I might not be able to stay with you right now. There's an urgent matter at the company, and I have to head back and take care of it," She said apologetically.
Michael blinked. "That's it? I thought it was something serious. If it's urgent, then go. Besides, I'll be leaving in a few days for at least two weeks. I can take you back—it'll be faster than flying and save you time."
Carol hesitated, then leaned in to whisper, "Actually... there's something we could do before I leave."
Michael chuckled. "Are you sure? If we start, you might not make it out tonight."
The morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, and a gentle breeze stirred the room. Michael and Carol woke, still basking in the afterglow of their time together.
"See?" Michael teased as he looked at the drowsy Carol. "Didn't I warn you? You didn't even make it out last night."
"You're impossible," Carol groaned playfully. "I told you I couldn't handle more, but you wouldn't let me go!"
Michael laughed. "What can I say? Your man is just that strong. Now, get up and pack. I'll take you home."
"I'm too tired," Carol pouted, stretching out her arms. "Carry me."
"With pleasure," Michael said, scooping her up with a grin.
After washing up, it was almost eight o'clock, and there was no time for breakfast. Michael sent Carol back to the seaside city, and after a reluctant farewell, he returned.
He still had things to do.
He was only five percent away from completing the mission, and the Somers situation wasn't completely resolved yet.
Back in Star City, Michael headed to Laurel's law firm.
As soon as he entered, he could feel the bustling atmosphere. Everyone was busy with their work. After a few steps, Michael saw Laurel frowning at her desk.
She looked up and noticed him. Michael smiled at her, and she was momentarily stunned before quickly recognizing him.
"It's you!"
Laurel stood up, surprised, and said, "Why are you here?"
"I came to see you about something. Do you have time? Can we go out and talk?"
"Of course!"
Laurel turned quickly, grabbed her bag, and walked out with Michael.
They went to a nearby restaurant.
Laurel continued to thank Michael.
"I really don't know what to say. Not only did you save me and Oliver, but you also caught Somers. It's just..." She paused, her expression turning slightly downcast. "There's no evidence..."
Michael raised an eyebrow. "Actually, I know something about you and Oliver. I'm curious—he's your ex-boyfriend, right? And he cheated on you with your sister. But why does it seem like you don't hate him that much?"
Laurel fell silent for a moment before answering, "Hate? How could I not hate him? We were together for a short time, and nothing serious happened. Maybe his original intention was to get close to my sister through me. If I had known what would happen, even if it was just for a short time, or even just in name, I would never have agreed."
"Wow... that's unexpected."
Michael was taken aback. It seemed that her relationship with Oliver wasn't as simple as it had seemed.
"I haven't forgiven him. But when I see him, I think of my sister. Do you understand? It's like I'm still holding on to her in some way," Laurel continued.
Michael nodded and asked curiously, "What about Tommy?"
"Tommy? What does he have to do with this?" Laurel asked, looking puzzled.
"I... thought you were with him," Michael said, feeling confused. "Isn't that how things went?"
"No! How could I be with Tommy?" Laurel replied, clearly agitated. "I met Tommy through Oliver. We were just friends, supporting each other after losing our loved ones—he lost his best friend, and I lost my sister."
"Got it. I must have been wrong."
Seeing Laurel's confident response, Michael was certain that something was off in this world compared to what he remembered. Was it the butterfly effect, or something else entirely?
But, thinking about it, many things in the main Marvel world didn't align with his memory either.
"Well, I have something here that might be useful to you," Michael said, pulling out his phone and playing a recording.
Laurel's eyes lit up as she listened, and she excitedly exclaimed, "This is perfect! With this evidence, Somers will spend the rest of his life behind bars."
"Do you want it?" Michael asked with a smile.
"Of course! You're a hero who punishes evil and protects the innocent, right?"
"Ah, you're quite the lawyer," Michael chuckled. "Answer one question to satisfy my curiosity, and I'll give you the recording."
"What's the question?"
"Are you... still a virgin?" Michael asked bluntly.
Laurel blinked, taken aback. "Why are you asking me that?"
"You just need to answer, yes or no."
Laurel hesitated, avoiding his gaze. She said nothing at first, but eventually gave a slight nod.
"Great. Now give me your phone number, and I'll send it to you," Michael said with a grin.
Laurel, still a bit flustered, quickly took out her phone. Michael transferred the recording and saved her number.
Laurel didn't protest as he saved her contact details, though she was clearly surprised.
"Alright, I've given you the evidence. This matter is settled for now. I'll be staying in Star City for a few more days, then I'll be leaving."
"Back to Coast City?" Laurel asked.
Michael smiled. "Looks like you know me well."
"Green Lantern, right?" Laurel said. "Your news has spread far and wide. And there's also Green Arrow—he seems to be from Star City. Do you know who he is?"
"I know, but I can't tell you."
"Then... can you tell me your name?" Laurel asked, a little disappointed, but still curious.
"Michael."
"Michael, I'll remember that," Laurel murmured.
"Alright, it's almost time. I won't keep you from your important work, lawyer," Michael said with a smile. "By the way, your father shot at me yesterday, so I'm going to take revenge on him—using you to do it!"
"Wait, what?" Laurel exclaimed, surprised. "My father shot you? And you want to take revenge?"
Michael laughed. "Not exactly. If you stay single and steer clear of Oliver or Tommy, I'll tell you the truth about your sister."
Laurel's eyes widened. "What do you know about her?"
"Want to know? I'll see how you handle things the next time we meet, and maybe I'll tell you." Michael grinned, placing money on the table. "I'll take my leave now."
"Why?" Laurel asked, confused.
"Just consider this my revenge," Michael said with a laugh before walking out.
