The pavilion was already occupied.
The Queen Mother stood near the stone railing, gazing out at the gardens. One of her hands rested lightly on the railing, while the other fell comfortably at her side.
She seemed to be enjoying the morning, completely at ease in her surroundings.
She had not changed much since breakfast. Her appearance was as composed as ever, and her clothes were arranged with the same care.
Yet, without the King beside her and the rest of the royal family filling the room, her presence felt different.
Julian took his time before stepping into the pavilion.
The Queen Mother did not turn immediately.
She seemed to know that he had arrived, but she allowed him a moment to look around.
Only after Julian had walked a few steps farther inside did she finally turn her head. Her eyes settled on him, and a faint smile appeared on her face.
"You came," she said.
There was no surprise in her voice.
