As the figure followed his partner, he noticed a shadow move along the trees. He raised his guard as he approached the area. He raised his hand towards the spot. Within it sparks of light began to form around it. But this light was different, it seemed more... pure. It swirld in his hand creating what looked like a small vortex.
Vanishing from his spot he appeared on the otherside of the tree with his arm stretched out. Seeing as there was no one there he lowered his hand and looked around as if not fazed but the sudden disappointment.
As he looked around, a dark figure suddenly landed on his back. A hand quickly covered his mouth as something pierced his robe. The was a sharp pain entering his shoulder, and he could feel it slowly start to spread.
The small object was suddenly yanked from his shoulder. His brow furrowed in annoyance. He reached up trying to grab the figure. As he did the object was pressed against his neck. As he touched the figure, it had already started cutting through his tempered skin like butter. But it suddenly stopped causing the blood to slowly drip from it into the grass below.
--
The figure crushed the wrapper dropping it back onto the ground then began his search once more. The longer he stayed in the area the more the feeling started to affect him. He felt a sudden feeling of urgency to rid the area of it. Yet he didn't even know what it was. But now seeing the area he assumed it was someone not from the town below.
As he looked around he could feel a sharp pain on the back of his right calf. Then a small weight landed onto his back. Something lached onto his hair. Then he could feel breathing near his ear as something cold touched his neck.
"Don't move. Sorry about this."
An odd feeling consumed his body as he froze in place. He couldn't understand the feeling. Someone like him held no emotion so it could be anything like fear. Then what could it have been. There was no way for him to find out as within seconds the light escaped his eyes, and his life was taken.
As his body fell to the ground, the figure jumped off landing a few steps away. As it walked towards the body, its glowing white eyes were all that could be seen.
A few moments later the other figure walked up, placing its hand on its shoulder. Placing its palm upward a small light source was created.
"Not bad for your first official kill."
"Thanks. It was a lot easier than I thought."
"Good that means your more in sync than I thought."
She paused for a moment. Reaching down she inspected the body, looking for anything that could be of use.
Standing up she held a small ring. It was gold in color with a blue stone embedded in it. She looked at it for a moment before placing it in her pocket. She then turned to him.
"Hey did you happen to get this weird feeling a moment ago."
"Hmm?"
He raised an eyebrow.
A moment ago I had this weird feeling come over me. I can't quite explain but it was definitely not normal. Did you feel anything like that."
He shook his head. He wasn't quite sure what she was talking about. He was completely fine.
"Can't say that I did, sorry."
"Hmm alright then."
They turned away and began walking back toward the camp. After relighting the fire, the fawn and its mother returned to their side. Scarlett was surprised to see them come back, at first. But she quickly dismissed it, as another thought entered her mind.
Her eyes began to take on a blood red color, as she looked in his direction.
"So, how do you think they new we were here?"
"I was just wondering the same thing."
He turned to look at her. Seeing her eyes sent a shutter down his spine. They felt ominous, unnatural.
As the glow began to fade, she shook her head.
"Seems they caught your sent."
"My what?"
"I'll explain in the morning. Just know you'll have to practice a bit more aura control."
He raised an eyebrow then shrugged. They both walked over to their respective tents, wishing one another a goodnight before falling asleep.
--
Two more days had passed since the incident at the camp. The next morning during his aura control practice. Scarlett explained that Daemons gave off a certain scent to the others. It was kind of like a homing beacon, letting them know you exist.
It attracted them like bears to honey. It affected their minds and bodies sometimes making them more aggressive and sometimes even seemed to increase their power. She explained it was probably an affect of some curse that was put on them during the war.
But basically, there was a small bit of aura leaking from him that night; attracting the two.
The next morning he asked about the strange feeling he got after killing one of the men. Then tried to explain that it somehow affected his body, causing him to feel "lighter or more intuned".
She explained that it was just his body growing from the experience. It was taking in the essence of the man and making it his own. Allowing him to grow stronger and eventually awaken further.
The day after he learned to channel his energy into his eyes. This ability was to help identify the potential threat of those he would face. It was a rare skill to have, only a few recieved it.
As she taught him, she found it came natural for him. The task proved far easier than the rest, proving he was one to receive such skill beforehand. She only needed to guide him towards it.
Currently the two sat atop a large hill. They were observing the small town below. The streets were busy with angels coming and going, but none seemed to be of any threat. The town seemed peaceful and quiet, without anyone causing trouble.
On the far end of the town there stood a cathedral. It was white in color with what seemed to be gold outlining its sides. There were two angels with strong auras guarding the front as well as one other keeping watch from its highest point.
As they scoped the area Scarlett wanted to make sure this was something he really wanted to do.
The day he awakened, he asked her about the culture of the realm. He was curious to see if it was any different from the way it was on earth. He learned that there were a few similarities, but of course with the inhabitants being divine beings there were bound to be a few differences.
He decided he wanted to visit one of the towns in order to see for himself. Which in turn led them here. After seeing the town he wanted to take something of mild importance back with him so he could study it once he returned.
Of course Scarlett was against it, but she agreed anyway. On the condition that he go alone. She would lead him to an area that would interest him, then he would have to grab the item on his own if he truly wished to.
Part of her hoped he would change his mind. There was always a chance of an archangel appearing in such a place. But the other part of her wanted to see if he was actually capable of doing it.
It was his last day here so his body should be in great, if not perfect condition. So the task shouldn't be too hard, with the only trouble being that of the archangel. But one would only appear if the area was truly important. Which she doubted some small town like this would be of any. Even with a cathedral being here.
After scoping out the area for a while, he turned to her.
"So what exactly is your ability. Not once have I seen you use it."
They had gone through a few fights on their journey here. The earlier ones were caused by his lack of control. After a while though they used them to help boost his strength.
It was true though, she hadn't used her ability even once. There was no need for her too. The two were more than capable of taking out those they faced. Her especially.
She thought the same of him. She hadn't seen him use any kind of special power or move. No little power up either. She hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary during their fights since the camp incident. Little did she know though, he had used it a few times. Up until he felt he was strong enough to fight without it.
Up till now the angels they faught would be considered to be at the first awakening stage. Who knew what would be hiding in the cathedral. Would he be able to handle it alone, or would she need to step in.
"You don't have to tell me what it does or anything. I know that might be something better kept secret. You never know, right? You can just tell me the name."
She thought about it for a second. It wouldn't hurt to tell him the name. There was nothing wrong with explaining what it did either, he wasn't exactly strong enough to take her anyway. But it would be a problem if they did end up having to face one another in the future.
She shrugged the thought off then answered.
"My ability is called Tether."
