Chapter 545: I Am Mo Yu, Your Fiancé
"Junior Mo Yu greets the Clan Leader."
Mo Yu was now standing atop a towering cliff in the Lei Clan's territory, surrounded by mist that made the place feel like a heavenly realm. Not far in front of him stood a middle-aged man with the aura of a powerful figure—Lei Ying, the Clan Leader of the Lei Clan.
After the elders' meeting in the Lei Clan's hall, Mo Yu had been brought here for a private conversation with Lei Ying.
"Haha! You've exceeded my expectations! You've grown far stronger than those brats in the clan. It's only been a few years since we parted ways in the Black-Corner Region, and you've already reached this level. You really were born to be free," Lei Ying laughed loudly, patting Mo Yu's shoulder.
Feeling the immense pressure of Lei Ying's strength, Mo Yu subtly shifted his stance and smiled wryly. Though Lei Ying's words were meant as praise, there was something awkward about them.
"Thank you for the compliment, Clan Leader. May I ask why you summoned me today?" Mo Yu asked, getting straight to the point. He knew Lei Ying's personality—straightforward and bold—so there was no need for formalities.
Lei Ying's expression grew more serious as he said, "You likely heard the commotion in the hall earlier. It was about the slots for entering the Heavenly Tomb."
"The Heavenly Tomb slots?" Mo Yu blinked in surprise, his mind quickly pondering the implications.
Seeing Mo Yu's reaction, Lei Ying assumed he didn't know what the Heavenly Tomb was and began explaining, "The Heavenly Tomb is the Gu Clan's forbidden land. Normally, outsiders can't enter or even open it. However, once every twenty years, during the Gu Clan's coming-of-age ceremony, the other seven ancient clans—including ours—are invited to participate. Each ancient clan only gets two slots. Since the Xiao Clan has declined, the Gu Clan now holds the most slots."
Mo Yu nodded as he listened. He was already familiar with the Heavenly Tomb. In fact, he had sent Xiao Yu and Xiao Yan to the Gu Clan, knowing that the Xiao Clan was entitled to two slots. However, those slots had been held by the Gu Clan for a thousand years, and getting them back wouldn't be easy. Whether Xiao Yan could secure the slot would depend on his own abilities.
As Mo Yu pondered this, Lei Ying continued, "The Heavenly Tomb is dangerous. It's the resting place of countless ancient powerhouses. While their souls have long since vanished, the tomb's mystical properties have preserved their energy, giving rise to energy bodies that retain the power and combat skills they had in life. These energy bodies are highly aggressive and difficult to deal with."
Lei Ying's expression turned serious as he spoke about the Heavenly Tomb. "If you encounter an energy body that's too powerful, it's best to avoid it. Some of these ancient experts were so strong in life that their energy bodies have even gained a form of intelligence, turning them into strange living beings."
"Creatures formed from the dead?" Mo Yu mused, thinking about how these phenomena were caused by the mystical nature of the Heavenly Tomb.
"These energy bodies are rich in energy, so even for Dou Zun experts, they provide great benefits. That's why the elders in the clan constantly fight over the slots for their descendants. Even I find it troublesome at times. Luckily, your Divine Bloodline shut them up this time. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been easy for you to get a slot," Lei Ying said with a laugh.
Without waiting for Mo Yu to respond, Lei Ying went on, "The Heavenly Tomb has three layers. The first layer contains energy bodies that are mostly below three-star Dou Zun strength, wandering mindlessly. They're not too difficult to handle. The second layer holds energy bodies between three-star and eight-star Dou Zun strength, and they're much tougher. The third layer is where the real dangers lie—there are energy bodies of peak Dou Zun and even ancient experts who were Dou Sheng level in life. Few people venture into the third layer without absolute confidence; it's too dangerous."
"Is it true that the tombs of some of our clan's most powerful figures are in the third layer?" Mo Yu finally had the chance to ask.
"Yes, the tombs of the true powerhouses from the eight ancient clans are deep within the third layer, but even in our Lei Clan, very few dare to enter there," Lei Ying confirmed.
"However..." Lei Ying's tone shifted. "Since you possess the Divine Bloodline, you might have the chance to venture into the inner depths of the third layer. If possible, I'd like you to try to find the tomb of our ancestor, Lei Zhen."
"Lei Zhen?" Mo Yu was surprised, his curiosity piqued.
"Yes, Lei Zhen," Lei Ying nodded, explaining, "As you know, the eight ancient clans have endured for so long because we all carry the bloodlines of Dou Emperors. The origin of our bloodlines traces back to ancient Dou Emperor ancestors."
"So, was Lei Zhen our clan's Dou Emperor?" Mo Yu asked, intrigued.
"Of course not," Lei Ying shook his head. He gazed up at the sky thoughtfully and said, "It's said that when someone reaches the Dou Emperor realm, they not only wield unimaginable power but can also sense the existence of another world. Every Dou Emperor, including our clan's founder, shattered the void and stepped into that other world, seeking even greater strength. That's why there are no Dou Emperor tombs on this continent. If there are any, they're just symbolic graves, not real tombs."
Mo Yu nodded, remembering the ancient Dou Emperor's tomb, the Tou She Ancient Emperor's Mansion. It contained only legacies, not the body of the ancient emperor.
"And who exactly is Lei Zhen?" Mo Yu asked, bringing his thoughts back to the present.
"Lei Zhen may not have been a Dou Emperor, but he was still incredibly important. He was one of the top three strongest clan leaders in our history and the eldest son of our Dou Emperor ancestor. Though he didn't reach the Dou Emperor level, he was only one step away. His achievements were likely only matched by Xiao Xuan, the Xiao Clan leader from a thousand years ago. If you can find Lei Zhen's tomb and gain his recognition, you will benefit greatly," Lei Ying said, encouraging him.
"Someone as powerful as Xiao Xuan…" Mo Yu murmured to himself. Xiao Xuan was known as the closest person to becoming a Dou Emperor in a thousand years. If not for the absence of the critical Emperor Source Qi, he would have likely become a Dou Emperor. If Lei Zhen was as powerful as Xiao Xuan, then he was undoubtedly an extraordinary figure.
"Very well, I will do my best to find Ancestor Lei Zhen's tomb," Mo Yu said with a nod. A tomb of such a powerful figure could hold immense treasures and knowledge, enough to significantly strengthen him.
Lei Ying smiled approvingly. "I'm glad to hear that, but don't push yourself too hard. It's said that Lei Zhen was a bit temperamental, so be prepared if you find his tomb."
"Temperamental?" Mo Yu's lips twitched. The Lei Clan truly lived up to its reputation as a warlike clan—everyone from the clan leader to the ordinary members seemed to have fiery tempers.
Shaking his head, Mo Yu remembered something and asked, "Clan Leader, our Lei Clan has two slots, right? Who will be accompanying me to the Heavenly Tomb?"
Mo Yu wasn't too concerned about who his companion would be, but it would be helpful to know in advance.
Hearing this, Lei Ying laughed heartily and called out, "Fei'er, come out!"
As soon as he spoke, a figure shot toward them like a flash of lightning. In just a few moments, a young woman stood before Mo Yu, her face tinged with a faint blush.
Mo Yu was briefly taken aback as he studied the girl. She wore a long black dress, and her delicate, beautiful face looked like that of a goddess. The sunlight hit her skin, which glowed like white jade, and her small, pink-tinged ears held two blue gemstone earrings that sparkled as they moved. Her silver eyes had a unique charm, like a stormy sea of lightning, captivating and electrifying.
Her slim waist was accentuated by a belt, and below it were long, slender legs that were wrapped in tight black stockings, adding an air of allure. Wherever she walked, the air seemed to carry a tingling energy, a testament to her control over the lightning element. She truly looked like a Thunder Goddess, proud and icy.
In the outside world, a woman like this would undoubtedly drive countless men to distraction.
Mo Yu was momentarily entranced before quickly regaining his composure. He immediately realized who this girl was—none other than his fiancée, Lei Fei'er, renowned for her beauty and the object of many young Lei Clan members' affection.
While Mo Yu was studying Lei Fei'er, she was also observing him closely. Her usually cold and aloof expression softened with a rare blush. If anyone outside the Lei Clan saw this, they'd be shocked. Lei Fei'er, the Thunder Fairy, was known for her pride and indifference toward men, but here she was, blushing at the sight of Mo Yu.
As Mo Yu regained his composure, he politely bowed to Lei Ying and said, "Clan Leader, are you suggesting that I go to the Heavenly Tomb with Miss Fei'er?"
"You've got some impressive self-control," Lei Ying remarked, noticing how quickly Mo Yu recovered. He knew how beautiful his daughter was—so much so that even the Lei Clan's finest young men were eager to pursue her. Mo Yu's calm reaction impressed Lei Ying.
Patting Mo Yu on the shoulder—causing him to wince in pain—Lei Ying laughed and said, "What's the matter? Worried Fei'er will hold you back in the Heavenly Tomb? Don't worry. While her strength isn't quite at her brother's level, she's on par with Lei Yin. This trip will also help you two get to know each other better."
Lei Ying's directness made Lei Fei'er blush, and Mo Yu couldn't help but laugh awkwardly. He cleared his throat and said, "You're overthinking, Clan Leader. I'm not worried about Miss Fei'er slowing me down. It's just that many of the other ancient clans' top geniuses will also be entering the Heavenly Tomb, and I'm concerned I won't be able to protect her."
Hearing the concern in Mo Yu's voice, Lei Fei'er's eyes brightened, and a faint smile appeared on her lips. Lei Ying, pleased, nodded and said, "That's what I like to hear—Lei Clan men know how to care for their wives. But don't worry. Fei'er has her own life-saving methods. You just focus on improving your strength and finding Lei Zhen's tomb. If you run into trouble, don't hesitate to ask Fei'er for help.
"After all, you two have been engaged for years. Even though this is your first time meeting in person, there's no need to be shy. In the Lei Clan, we believe in clear-cut relationships, no need for awkwardness."
With that, Lei Ying grabbed Mo Yu's shoulder and pulled him over to Lei Fei'er. Then he took Lei Fei'er's arm and placed her hand in Mo Yu's.
Feeling her cool, delicate hand in his, Mo Yu was momentarily stunned. Her hand felt like smooth jade, and it was hard to resist the urge to hold it for longer.
Taking a deep breath, Mo Yu smiled as he looked at Lei Fei'er. Seeing how supportive his future father-in-law was, he wasn't about to disappoint him.
Holding Lei Fei'er's hand, Mo Yu smiled and said, "Allow me to introduce myself properly. I am Mo Yu, and I'm also… your fiancé."
