Everyone in the library froze, not wanting to move an inch like being in the eyes of a predator. Sweat cooling their backs as their breaths hitched in their throats. "Emmet! Take Raven home, I'll talk to them!" She said loudly before whispering
"I'll see how long I can stall them." Iris handed off Raven to Emmett, the calls of the child echoing as she ran across the atrium and out the huge doors. "Where's Momma going Professor?"
"She's got important business to do!" Being the Head High Scholar of Tovara meant she was also the leader in diplomatic relations and served as a Mayor or President of sort. There was a Psuedo-Council, but given that the island had under 10,000 inhabitants. A single person was able to oversee the happenings.
It didn't take much time for Emmett to push the door of the small apartment open, the door to which was within the Library itself, a small door and mailbox on the wall. The words 'High Scholar' on the top of the door frame, written in a bronze plaque.
The home wasn't tucked away behind bookshelves, but was quite blatant and out in the open. Clear of book shelves and was almost a straight shot off the atrium itself
Emmett pulled out a key ring, a copy of one that Iris also possessed, and found the homes skeleton key and clicked it into place and pushed the door open, entering into the small hallway, with framed pictures of Raven and Iris.
Emmett locked the door, and walked into the main sitting area and finally sat Raven down. "Professor!" Raven teared up, the child frightened a big frown on her face "What's going on!" She whined
"Everythings going to be okay!" Emmett said, kneeling down, putting his wrinkled hands on her shoulders. "C'mon Raven! Give me that big ol' smile!" He gave a toothy grin, making the same silly face, wiggling his face and hands "Beshishi! Bleh!"
Ravens frown persisted. Tears began to roll down her, a small hand coming up to wipe away the tears while her voice began to hiccup and hitch, sobs filling the air. "Hick…WAHHH"
Emmett closed his eyes, thinking to himself while taking slow deep breaths. He was feeling the same way in his heart the Raven was. If the CPA and World Government were back again, in this short of notice. It could mean only one thing…
"Raven." Emmett cooed. The softness of his words breaking through the child's sobs. Raven sniffed harshly as she looked up to Emmet. "It'll be alright! Just smile! Let me see those teeth!"
Emmett gave a large, toothy smile. One that wasn't silly or trying to be funny, but one that felt genuine and warming to see for the small child. Giving her a small smirk that grew into a large smile, matching Emmetts
"There she is!" Emmett said, beginning to laugh. "Isn't that better? What'do I always say, a nice smile always makes you feel better when you're feeling down!"
It took a few minutes for Iris to make her way to the main shore line, coming over the horizon, Feall spotted the woman as he stood waiting for her. "Finally."
Iris forced a smile as she caught her breath, extending her hand for a shake. A Courtesy she was forced to give the World Government ensuring the Adjudicator the Island would not be a threat. (And thus if broken would be allowed a to respond with violent retaliation.
"I am Professor, Dr. Azalea Iris, the High Scholar, Head Councilwoman and The Primary Leadership of Tovara, I'm pleased to meet you. And I don't believe we have met before."
"I'm glad to be met with Formality, Professor. I am Adjudicator Feall. I am here to day because, to be blunt, there have been some very serious reports about this famous island being associated with…Terroristic and- Forbidden research on this island."
'Fuck.' was the only thing Iris thought to herself as she kept the close eyed grin to the Government Official. Immediately composed to respond. "Well I can assure you that the only Knowledge on this Island is both Sanctioned, allowed, not of illegal status in the Eyes of the World Government. While there is quite the Ancient knowledge on old history, and even obscure and very uncommon and rare artifacts and tomes."
"We know that the Study of things like the Void Century, the Ancient Weapons, and those Stones Known as Poneglyphs are Illegal, highly such. And our knowledge begins and ends at just knowing their dangers, and existence."
"You can say that. But, many who do Research the Forbidden say the same. That's why I'm here today to judge you on that fact. So, if you wouldn't keep us waiting any longer. Please, lead us the Grand Library I've heard so much about."
"How about a tour as well. I insist." She says putting her hand on her bust and giving a courtesy smile. 'I have to distract them as long as I can. Please, Emmett, make sure that Raven is tucked away somewhere…'
'Damnit. Fine.' Feall thought to himself as he Returned a small smile. "If you insist"
Iris walked slowly, the Adjudicator next to her kept pace. One of them was furious that his plans were clearly being halted by a strategic mind of the scholar, while the other was worried beyond belief. Wanting to slow them all down for as long as possible so that at least of many things could happen, the Adjudicator was fed up with the long boring history and section briefings and small tangents the woman went on, Raven getting off the island, or finally, putting it all off long enough so that she could ready herself for the inevitable.
"And Finally, here we are!" She said stopping a few dozen meters away from the large ornate doors of the Grand Library of Tovara. Windows lining the circumference at ground level where many other houses of Council people, Library Staff, and ordinary citizens lived.
"Thank you for the tour until now, Processor Doctor. We will now initiate our Judgment." Feall gave a cold emotionless smile, dropping as soon he looked away. "Split up, check the houses and round up everyone in front of the Library. Be thorough with that Library. Don't let its size taunt you."
