"It…It says." Raven began, running her hands through the groves of the markings, the characters were harsh and vertical. The entire front face was covered by them. This language needed to be read Left to right, It was so cleanly done that it was almost as if the Block appeared with the written on its surface.
"The Stones of The World" She began, translating the words on the stone. Some of them were compounds and needed to be restructured to make sure it make sense in a modern way. "Tell the story of…Fairy Tales?"
She looked over her shoulder to her mother and then to Emmett "Well-" Her mother began "That compound probably better translates to 'Grand History' or 'Tale' with an emphasis on a bustling and busy period of time."
Raven began to nod as she continued. The Stone spoke of how these stones were known as the Poneglyphs, a word that had no better translation other than 'Story Stone', and documented the history of a period of time. There were dozens and dozens of these stones scattered, but 32 Specific ones which would speak on the 'Grand History'.
"We've also found documentation that there are some stones that are said to lead somewhere. Though we can't really decipher the name, the most prominent theory is that it's…not a word." Emmett said with a scratch of his head.
"But a picture." Iris stated "But, I think that's a bit too complicated for you right now." Iris said walking over to her daughter who gave a pout "What! No its not…I get it Momma!" Raven was an incredibly smart child. The smartest that either Emmett or Iris had seen. Smarter than even Iris was when she was a child.
Lifting Raven into her arms, Iris continued speak "Well alright then. Let me just tell you a bit more about the Poneglyphs."
"During that period, nothing was recorded. And is said to have been a period where nothing happened. But- these Poenglyphs reveal that there was history. And a lot of it. But we don't have the full picture."
"What we do know however, is that not only is that Century erased from the history books. But almost a thousand years before that is as well. Unless it pertained to a single island's history, it hasn't been recorded on a large scale. Where the periods other names come from. 'The Void Millennium'"
"We've been able to find far more history preserved in old nations and kingdoms along with ruins after the 100 years of nothing, but a lot after that has been found and preserved here in the grand archives."
"We're lucky that these Poneglyphs are indestructible. And have given us a view on The 100 and 1,000 years. But it's that 100 years that is the most important in all of history. It's how the world as we know it came about."
"That's why we work tirelessly to find those 32 stones." She said, bouncing Raven in her arms and turning to leave the secret archive. Nodding to emmet who went to recover the Stone with a large silk cloth.
Iris pushed open the door to their home, a Ground level, small living space. It had enough space for both of them to relax and rest. A small kitchenette in the corner near the door, with a small couch and recliner at the other with a bookshelf in front of it. Filled with the checked out books from the both of them.
The large window at the end of the room served as another pair of doors that opened up to a garden. Iris and Raven loved the plants in the small plot. Roses, Vines, Heirlooms. It was incredibly vibrant within the small wire fenced area. There was always Tri-Monthly competitions for people to compete in whos garden would be the best. Not just the biggest. But the most well taken care of and most prosperous.
Iris and Raven worked well and hard to make sure that they kept winning that Competition. Trimming dead pieces, keeping the soil fertilized, re-rooting plants if needed to keep them alive. Iris always had that, touch, to make sure they bloomed brighter than ever.
There was that time that they'd planted pomegranates. A tree that already bore fruit, but Iris didn't want to wait to have one grow. She loved having plants in the garden that represented something. Meant something. And Pomegranates, from many text she read, spoke how they were symbols of fertility, some viewed it as a poison, but also abundance and knowledge. The seeds the numerous texts and stories held by a person.
One day, when Raven was out there cross referencing plants in the garden to the almanac, despite already knowing what they were, spotted a pomegranate with a strange tinge to it. It was pink, with petals blossoming. Something in Raven drew her close. Curiosity perhaps.
It was soft to the touch, softer than the others, but not like it was rotten beneath the surface, but like a flower's silky petal. She couldn't help but take a bite, causing juices to spray. It tasted horrid, but by the time the taste hit the fruit was down her gullet. It was like eating a handful of flowers, stems and all.
Her mother was so worried. Almost horrified until Emmet had told her that it was a Devil Fruit. And a new worry came over the mother. But, luckily for Raven Tovara had a book known as 'Herbarum of Devil Fruits' it held visual pictures of Devil Fruits, their 'Official' names (Names that best describes the ability. Along with a list of other Names that it could go by.) In two languages.
Ravens were 'The Hana-Hana' or the 'Bloom-Bloom Fruit' giving the consumer the ability to produce body parts on their surroundings. A Paramecia class Devil Fruit.
