Chapter 297 - Worms, Nastiness Oh My!

"Alright! Dinners ready!" Noir said, having taken a break from the Scraping, his tie loosened around his neck with the first few buttons undone. He needed to make sure the crew was filled if they wanted it to keep cleaning and maintaining the ship

The sun was tilting over the edge of the horizon behind the crew, casting long spindly shadows combined with the amber hue and purple casted sky illuminated Kirk and Jeanne continued to scrape away at the bottom of the boat

"Oh Gross! Jeanne!" Kirk said as jeanne pulled an absolutely enormous ship worm from the wood!

It was like a giant translucent snake! A knob of a shell at the end as two feather like antennae and two tubes that held almost sharp toothed circular mouths that slowly opened and closes as it was dying.

"Thats a mighty big Shipworm! Haven't seen one this big since Old Man Dao pulled a two foot one from a trade galleon dropping some stuff on Organ!" She said looking it up and down while Kirk grimaced

"I think I beat your record Leroy!" She said snickering behind herself.

"What! No way!" Leroy said, sitting his ramen bowl down and scampering to his feet, knocking plumes of sand into the air and onto Kále, who just gave an annoyed look before going back to what he was doing, slurping his noodles.

"Measure Measure! I demand a Measure!" He said as he waved his hand in the air in a playful demand.

Jeanne pulled a measure tape from her satchel "Lets see, yours was 26 inches…and this one is…"

She bit on her tongue while squinting at the dashes on the tape. "28 and one quarter!"

"NO!" Leroy said, gripping his head as he feel, ever so dramatically onto ground, before rolling around to play up his bit.

"Psishsishi! Seems like I'm the winner of this side!" She said before reeling her arm back and hurling the long snake-like invasive eater across the beach.

"Than goodness…that was- So gross…" Kirk stuck his tongue out with a harsh grimace on his face.

Using tar and oakum, the fibers from rope, and packed into the holes and smeared over with the black liquid to serve as a temporary patch.

The deep fracture in the keel had been bandaded with sheet metal and tar beneath that adhered wood into the gap. It was a temporary fix, but they wouldn't have to worry about the ship giving out beneath them on the voyage towards Water 9

Since the Ship was currently on its side, the crew slept on the sand bar. Setting up tents to sleep.

The Next day, the ship was slowly floated back out into the water, and then Kále, Leroy, and Noir all began to haul the ship back up onto the beach on the other side, Raven holding it up yet again.

It took even less time for them to clean the other side, having gotten into a good cycle of scrapping, plugging, cleaning, and the like.

It took another many hours nonetheless. And once they were done, they let the Palm float back out into the sea ever so gently, bobbing against the waves.

It took a few more hours for the Crew to unpack all that they had put up.

"Alright, last thing to do is for someone to go down and check the bilge." Kirk said ticking off the rest of the thing completed

From checking the pump below the stairway, checking the pipes in the Bathroom and in the Galley.

"Uhhh- Not it!" Leroy said, putting his hand up quickly.

"Not it!" Dezzi jumped into the air.

"Nope!" Kirk added

"Never." Raven put up 4 arms on one.

"No." Noir and Jeanne said at once.

They all slowly turned to the one that hadn't denied doing the dirty job

Putting his hands behind his back, and sauntering over to the Swordsman with a spin. Leroy cooed melodically "Ohhh Káááleeee! Guess you're the last one!"

Slam! The door behind The First Mate shut harshly. Causing him to click his tongue in dissatisfaction, grumbling to himself below his breath. "Tch…Go to the bilge! Check the bilge…whatever…"

Lifting the small trap door that laid against the wall at the far end of the under crew quarters. Dropping to his hands and knees he crawled into the small space.

Clack! Clack Clack! The sound of hollow wood against wood reverberated. Turning to look, Kále couldn't fit his swords into the space. "Ugh."

Setting them against the wall, he crawled back into the small three foot space, where another hatch sat, opening it, a wave of stench and must hit his face. Still water, and salt invading his nostrils

The small three later rungs were taken, his shoes disturbing the large rocks that served to weigh the bottom of the ship, the water ankle deep.

"It smells like piss down here." He said as he was totally crouched down, back and head scraping against the ceiling.

"What was I looking for again?" He wandered around the cramped space, rocks tumbling against against his feet as he kicked loose rocks that set up against the wall.

"Uhhh. Where am I?" He turned around looking around trying to stand "Ow!"

He hit his head against the bottom boards, where laughter then sounded out above him, the distinct sound on Jeanne and Leroy "Oh yeah…Bilge…thing."

Walking back to the steps, and crawled back out and into the crew quarters where leroy was rolling around on one of the beds, laughing is utter ass off.

"Y-You! HAHAHAHAH! You Didn't have to go into it!" Leroy said, Jeanne wheezing like a kettle next to him

"Gross…Aww ew! His shoes are wet!" Kirk covered his nose with a pinch waving his hand in front of him

A frustrated look came over his face "What are you laughing at perv!"

Noir was in equal hysterics, Kále getting up to him and in his face "Oh gross! Go shower!"

"Kále…You were just supposed to peak your head in and see if the rocks were steady…" Dezzi said covering their nose
