Tang Li Yue's head slowly turned.
Inside the inspection shed, the little girl with the broken rabbit froze.
Tang Li Yue looked at the rabbit.
The rabbit looked back with one remaining button eye.
The woman beside the girl immediately went pale.
"It was mine," the woman said quickly. "I hid it there. Not her."
Tang Li Yue walked toward the shed.
Lu Chengran moved half a step as if he intended to follow her, but then stopped. His rifle remained pointed toward the fence, although his attention clearly stayed on her.
The civilians shrank back as Tang Li Yue entered the dim shed.
She ignored most of them and stopped in front of the woman and the child.
The little girl hugged the rabbit close to her chest.
Tang Li Yue crouched down in front of her.
"What is your name?"
The girl's lips trembled. "Yuan Yuan."
"Did you know there was a knife inside your rabbit?"
Yuan Yuan shook her head so quickly that her hair fell across her face.
Tang Li Yue looked at the woman.
