Tang Li Yue shot him a warning look.

The girl sniffled, then slowly removed her shoes. Chen Qiao took them and placed them near the outer rack. The child received the strawberry packet with both hands, as if Tang Li Yue had granted her a royal decree.
Tang Li Yue stood and dusted her gloves.

Major Lin watched her, something unreadable passing through his face.

The dead were close now.

They pressed toward the outer fence, drawn by the voices, the engines, the smell of living people. Their hands scraped against the metal mesh. Nails broke. Teeth snapped through the gaps uselessly.
The chihuahua lunged at one through the lower bars and bit off two fingers.
Tang Li Yue gagged.
"Disgusting little beast!"
The dog wagged its tail while chewing.
"Spit that out! Do you have no upbringing?"
