Karina glanced at the map, her lips pressed into a thin line. "There's no way we can pass through these ravines without running into trouble. Bandits love these chokepoints."
"Which is why we won't stop to chat," Helvar said with a smirk. "Or do you fancy a longer trek through swampland filled with mana-addled beasts?"
"Enough," I said, waving my hand to silence the brewing argument. "We take the direct route. The longer we delay, the more ground Lirien gains."
Karina huffed but didn't argue further. Helvar, apparently pleased with his momentary victory, leaned back in his chair.
"We'll need supplies," Karina said after a moment, her tone sharp. "The Highlands aren't forgiving, and I'm not putting my life in the hands of someone who brought nothing but a map and a grin."
