She zipped her zipper up before opening the door.
"Can I get at least your number?" The man asked.
Veronica eyed him before scoffing.
Her number.
She needed a release, and he happened to be in the bathroom.
"Forget this even happened." She said as she pushed the door open.
Veronica settled into her seat and buckled her seatbelt.
Her thoughts drifted to Avery.
The sooner she landed in the UK, the sooner she'd finish what she started.
A violet jolt shook the aircraft.
Her eyes snapped open.
Another followed.
This one was stronger.
The smile slipped from her face.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please remain seated while we-"
BOOM!
The plane exploded.
_
"Breaking News."
"A plane travelling from France to the UK exploded midair at approximately noon today."
The reporter's voice continued in the background.
"Authorities have confirmed that there were no survivors."
Suzzy clutched her necklace.
"Samuel, come look. Look at the news."
She squeezed his biceps and buried her face in his chest.
"Poor souls."
He sighed sharply and smoothed her. His rough hands caressed her back.
"How many times do I have to tell you. Stop watching this type of news."
"But how would I know what's going on in the world?"
Samuel sniffed her hair and whispered.
"I can always tell you. You just have to ask me."
"You'd just filter everything."
That's true.
He didn't want Suzzy to think or know things like this.
He hugged her tighter.
"Aren't you going to meet Erica?"
"Yes, I almost forgot," she murmured into his chest.
She took her handbag from the sofa and left the room.
He watched her car drive out of the driveway. He stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window with his hands in his pockets.
As the car disappeared from his sight, Samuel retrieved his phone.
"I'm listening."
"I'm leaving the country," Alex's voice came through.
Samuel raised his brow.
"And where are you going?"
" The UK. It's time to support Avery in the light."
"And does she know about this?"
There was a long silence on the other side.
"She's going to know when I get there."
Samuel exhaled harshly.
"Be careful, Alex. And make sure you clean up your mess. I don't want to be on the wrong side of my girl again."
"Whatever. At least you still have her."
