Five days, and she still felt eyes on her. Avery couldnt shake the feeling out of her. She was convinced that someone was stalking her. But who? She'd checked the cameras and doubled the security in the house, but she could still feel the eyes.
It was nighttime, and everyone was in the living room preparing for bed. Avery had excused herself to the guest room not far from the living room.
The sound of the toilet flushing echoed in the bathroom. She walked towards the sink and lowered her hands to wash them. The sound of a vase fell behind her, which startled her. She looked at the mirror to see the broken vase. She gulped the saliva which had pooled in her mouth.
She took in a shaken breath and continued to wash her hands as fast as she could.
"Flick, flick"
The lights flickered in the room.
"Fuck!" she muttered under her breath.
Before she could walk towards the towel to clean her hands, a shadow appeared behind her. Her eyes widened. Before she could scream, the shadow disappeared.
"Hello? Is someone there? ERica? This isnt funny. Quit it." Her body trembled.
The light went out, and she heard breathing behind her. The light came back on; however, before she could scream, her mouth was covered.
"Shush. Not another word, young lady." Veronica whispered behind her.
Avery stared at her with the colour on her face draining. She was dead. She remembered. Alex told her she died. How, how come she is right behind her?
"Surprise!" Veronica said. "Did I scare you? I hope I did because if i didnt youre going to be more scared."
She tried to scream, but her mouth was covered.
"Your days are numbered, Avery. Time for my revenge."
The lights flickered again, and the hand covering her mouth vanished. Avery turned. Her back against the sink. Where is she? Veronica was right behind her. Where is she?
She grippednher hair and paced around the bathroom. She isnt crazy. She saw her. Yeah, her face was covered, but she knew it was her. She rushed out of the bathroom to the living room. It was empty. Her heart beats wildly against her chest. Where was everyone?
She rushed to the master bedroom. The door slammed shut.
Alex's head turned to the door. He spotted his wife. Something is wrong. Her face. It was pale. Avery sighed of relieved. She ran towards him and hugged him tightly.
His hand caressed her back.
"What's wrong, baby?"
Avery sniffled back the tears. She pulled away from him.
"I....I saw her. I saw Veronica. Alex. She isnt dead?"
Alex frowned.
"What are you talking about? What do you mean, you saw Veronica?"
Avery nodded at him. Her hair looked messy.
"I did. She had her face covered, but I saw her. She said my days are numbered, and it was time for her revenge. Please believe me."
"Babe," Alex said as he pulled her into a hug.
"Lets go to bed. Youre tired and seeing things." He kissed her forehead.
"You don't believe me. Do you?" Avery whispered.
The room became silent. She allowed him to drag her to bed. Alex hugged her, and her breathing evened. It took some time before she drifted to sleep.
