Chapter 11 - Chapter 10

[City of Magnolia]

"What! Darkness magic!?" Yajima screamed the words his face morphing into one of surprise than worry. "Ivan Please tell me your joking, that magic is a very frowned upon one."

Ivan paled at Yajima's outburst, though Gildarts sat still only looking mildly surprised but not as taken aback as Yajima was, he was rather chill about the entire thing.

"Yea, yea, I know, but I just have a genuine interest in the magic, something that's been keeping it in the back of mind for a while now." Ivan spoke lightly not showing any fear and keeping his tone respectful.

In his head though he was less kind. 'Well, that and all the potential it has dummy. A fair bit of mages used darkness magic, though not how I plan on using it, from what I remember that darkness magic I saw in the anime centered more on explosions, not real darkness...jeez, I sound edgy.'

Yajima tapped the table studying Ivan "Does Makarov know about this?"

"Not yet, I haven't told him, but I see no reason why it would be a bad thing. Illegal wizards may use it, but those same wizards also use fire magic, something legal wizards use as well. Is it not the same Yajima?" Ivan asked his tone still conveying that sense of honesty

Yajima's face became sour "I would disagree with you Ivan. While yes dark mages do use legal magics, darkness magic does not have a good history with legal guilds. The council would not arrest you for practicing it, though they would watch you. You remember how magic channels your emotions, right? Well, the same thing can happen the other way around if you're not careful, your magic can channel into your emotions."

Ivan took a breath. "You have a point Yajima, but I still feel like this is the magic for me. If I go against it, I might be severely limiting myself, I know myself well and I know what I see with this magic. Not me becoming some evil mage, but instead one of Fairy Tail."

Yajima sighed "The funny thing is Makarov wouldn't have a problem with you learning it. Still not only as a member of the magic council, but as a senior mage myself I must warn you. This magic can be dangerous."

Ivan nodded "I understand, but maybe I can change that. Maybe with me practicing it as a legal mage I can change the council view on it."

Yajima let out a dry laugh "That would not be easy, not at all. The council is very set in their ways for a lot of reasons, not only from the mistakes of the past and ancient history, but current events as well," Yajima's voice became softer almost muted as he mutters the last words "...illegal wizards are appearing like never before..."

Ivan's eyebrows creased 'What?' he didn't have much time to think though, Yajima seemed to realize what he had said and coughed in attempt to cover it up.

He looked at Gildarts "Anyways, Gildarts? You have any ideas on your magic?"

"Uhh, not a clue, when I see myself as a mage I kinda just see myself beating bad guys up and destroying things. I don't really know what magic I'd use though."

"That's fine, just keep thinking about your magic, in fact you can go mediate if that helps."

Gildarts shrugged "Sure things, but I don't think meditations my thing."

Yajima smiled "Just try it for now."

Gildarts nodded before walking away to a corner of the library, leaving Ivan alone with Yajima. It was quiet for only a moment before Yajima spoke.

"I'm sorry about my earlier outburst Ivan, it's just that not every day you hear someone wanting to learn darkness magic, well since its..."

Ivan smiled shaking his head "It's fine, honestly I was expecting you to be way angrier than you were."

Yajima laughed

"My own views on magic are different from Makarov's, he can be seen as more lax with what he allows in his guild. It's actually one of the reasons I left; I work for the council because I see the benefit it can have on the world, as well as the harm," Yajima had a solemn look on his face "Darkness magic does not have a good history from what I've read and seen, but I'm not going to let my personal views impact your magical future. So, I will help you learn it, as best I can."

Ivan smile grew "Thank you Yajima."

The older man simply chuckled softly "First off I want you to imagine yourself using your darkness magic, not what you may have heard about or have seen but what you Ivan see yourself using."

Ivan nodded and closed his eyes, as he imagined himself using magic.

What Ivan imagined himself using was not the darkness magic of the Fairy Tail world, why would it be? He was from another world, one that had far more knowledge than this world. What Ivan imagined himself wielding was real darkness, not the explosions or lightshows most characters in this world had shown, but the darkness that he understood from his own world.

In reality his magical power began to form, it coated him like a second skin, though this time instead of gray and black mixing together it was just black.

Yajima's eyebrows rose, his breath caught.

Ivan was not done though; he was just getting started.
