"This power... not bad!" Chris raised his eyebrows with genuine appreciation.
Shadow Lugia's attacks were devastating indeed. It would take tremendous courage just to stand in front of such a move for most trainers. However, this was only true for ordinary trainers.
For Chris, a champion who had extensive experience battling legendary Pokémon, it was manageable—impressive, but manageable.
His Mega Gardevoir immediately teleported Chris to safety, moving him well away from the incoming dark storm.
Meanwhile, Zeraora transformed into pure electrical energy, darting straight through the swirling darkness. The Dark Storm was mighty and overwhelming, but it was also cumbersome and slow. With Zeraora's incredible speed, bypassing the chaotic winds was as easy as weaving between two pillars.
In an instant, Zeraora materialized directly in front of the Shadow Lugia.
The Electric-type Pokémon drew back its electrified fist and struck with tremendous force.
"Plasma Fists!"
"BOOM!" The thunderous impact echoed across the battlefield as Shadow Lugia's entire body trembled from the blow. Fortunately, its legendary constitution was strong enough to prevent it from being knocked out of the sky again, though the attack clearly caused significant damage.
"ROOOOOAR!" The dark bird unleashed another furious cry in response.
Lugia quickly counterattacked, sweeping its massive black wings in an attempt to swat Zeraora like an annoying insect. However, the result was far from what it hoped for.
The incredibly swift Zeraora moved like an untouchable but extremely persistent adversary. While dodging every attack with fluid grace, it continued to land heavy blows on the frustrated legendary bird.
"Shadow Lugia, use Shadow Rush!" Lovrina commanded loudly.
Her desperate commands proved ineffective. The Shadow Lugia wrapped itself in a coat of dark energy and thrashed wildly left and right, but still couldn't land a single hit on the agile Zeraora.
Lovrina tried repeatedly to direct her Shadow Lugia's attacks, but Mega Gardevoir had already activated Future Sight. No matter how the corrupted legendary attacked, Mega Gardevoir would resolve the situation with perfectly timed teleportation, even managing to provide support for Zeraora's continued assault.
No matter what strategy Lovrina attempted, Chris easily countered it with superior tactical awareness.
On the icy surface below, Mega Garchomp and Shadow Dragonite were locked in their own intense battle. Mega Garchomp was steadily overwhelming the Shadow Dragonite with its superior physical abilities, gradually wearing down the dark dragon's stamina. Victory was simply a matter of time.
Chris floated calmly in mid-air, observing both battles simultaneously, but he didn't send out any additional Pokémon or give commands to speed up the process. Instead, he simply glanced at his watch with quiet patience.
"Thirty-seven seconds remaining..."
"All of you, attack at once!"
Unable to defeat Zeraora and unable to capture trainer Chris, Lovrina became desperate and enraged. She pulled out a control device and activated every Shadow Pokémon throughout Route 108, commanding them to launch a coordinated assault.
The corrupted Pokémon attacked Mega Gyarados, Mega Garchomp, and Chris himself. Every dark creature within range began attacking frantically, their eyes glowing with malevolent energy.
"Oh? I almost forgot about harvesting experience," Chris remarked as he observed the sea full of Shadow Pokémon approaching.
These corrupted creatures were relatively weak but provided valuable experience points. Rather than viewing this as a threat, Chris saw it as an opportunity—these Shadow Pokémon were essentially floating experience packages waiting to be collected.
"Go ahead and gather some experience," Chris said casually, throwing another Poké Ball.
A massive Totem Venusaur landed gracefully on the ice sheet, its enormous flower blooming proudly on its back.
"Petal Blizzard!"
Countless green leaves and pink petals erupted from the flower on Venusaur's back, creating a beautiful but deadly storm that covered a hundred-meter radius. A gentle breeze began to flow, quickly intensifying into a pink tornado that swept across the battlefield like a harvesting machine, efficiently defeating the surrounding Shadow Pokémon.
Chris took a moment to review his current team composition.
Team One consisted of Zeraora, Greninja, Gardevoir, Gengar, Lucario, and Tyranitar.
Team Two included Blaziken, Gyarados, Salamence, Wobbuffet, Slaking, and Venusaur.
He still had many other powerful Pokémon that hadn't been organized into a third team yet. The main reason was simply that it wasn't necessary at this point. He wanted to focus on perfecting his first two teams before considering expansion. If any of his remaining Pokémon proved stronger than current second-team members, he would make substitutions accordingly.
Competition for team spots was essential for maintaining peak performance.
Even among his rarely-used reserves, Chris possessed Pokémon with incredible potential such as his Aggron with perfect stats, his Diamond-tier Steelix, and his Shadow Aerodactyl.
Currently, among the second team, Venusaur was probably the lowest level, while the average level of the other second-team members was above 78. Therefore, Chris planned to help Venusaur gain experience so it could contribute meaningfully in future battles against true champion-level opponents.
The plan was working perfectly.
Venusaur silently thanked Lovrina for providing this excellent training opportunity.
In the distance, Lovrina watched in horror as her army of Shadow Pokémon was systematically harvested by the Totem Venusaur. A terrible realization dawned on her.
"I wasted so much effort transforming all these common Pokémon into Shadow Pokémon for nothing! Why didn't I focus on converting truly powerful Pokémon instead?"
"Zeraora, Garchomp, Gardevoir, Gyarados, Venusaur... if I could transform them all into Shadow Pokémon, combined with my Shadow Lugia, I would have the power to rule the entire world!" Lovrina's eyes blazed with uncontainable greed as she licked her lips hungrily.
"Lugia, maximum power! Dark Storm!" Lovrina screamed desperately.
The Shadow Lugia's crimson eyes suddenly blazed brighter, as if light bulbs had been installed inside them, glowing with terrifying intensity.
A massive hurricane began building across the entire Route 108 waterway, flowing like a seasonal monsoon—condensed, oppressive, and absolutely overwhelming.
The Shadow Lugia beat its wings with tremendous force.
Hundreds of pitch-black tornadoes erupted from the ocean surface, sending torrents of seawater spiraling high into the sky! The dark mass advanced forward like the ocean itself had risen hundreds of meters into the air, or like a colossal tidal wave hundreds of meters tall was racing forward.
It was as if an ancient sea god from the deepest ocean had opened its maw, preparing to devour a piece of the land itself. Any creature caught within those jaws would be mercilessly consumed.
Chris stood calmly in the air as this apocalyptic attack approached. This time, he didn't order Mega Gardevoir to teleport him to safety, nor did he recall any of his Pokémon.
"Ten minutes are up," he said quietly.
One minute had passed since his initial Z-Move, which meant the enhanced effects of Zapdos's Treasure—doubling the power and range of Electric-type moves—was available again.
The first attempt had been partially negated by Multiscale, but this time would be the finishing blow.
"Zeraora, Dynamax!"
Chris recalled Zeraora into its Poké Ball and immediately released it again, triggering the Dynamax phenomenon.
Instantly, a colossal "titan of light" materialized above the ocean, dwarfing even the massive Shadow Lugia.
"Max Lightning!" Chris commanded, calling for the Dynamax version of Plasma Fists!
Facing the world-consuming wave of darkness approaching from all directions, the gigantic Zeraora slowly raised its hand. White lightning flickered across its entire enlarged form, but the electrical energy quickly gathered and concentrated in its right fist, condensing into an orb of lightning compressed to its absolute limit.
Zeraora thrust its fist forward, unleashing the devastating attack.
In that instant, an astonishing white aurora blazed across the sky, piercing straight into the enormous dark wave. The brilliant light tore through the shadow storm completely, continuing its path until it struck directly into Shadow Lugia's chest with earth-shattering force.
