High above Sea Mauville, thick storm clouds gathered as the north wind howled fiercely across the sky. Rain poured down in torrents, creating an atmosphere of dread and tension that blanketed Route 108 below.
Deep beneath the ocean's surface, powerful undercurrents churned violently. Most wild Pokémon had fled the area in terror, sensing the overwhelming darkness that permeated the waters. Only a group of corrupted Shadow Pokémon remained, their minds twisted beyond reason. They lingered around Sea Mauville like devoted followers, their eyes gleaming with unnatural malice.
Suddenly, a thunderous explosion shattered the air. "BOOM!" A massive hole tore open in the abandoned ship's hull, and from within emerged a colossal beast of pure darkness. Its enormous wings beat against the storm as it rose into the turbulent sky.
"ROOOOOAR!" The giant creature spread its wings wide and unleashed a bone-chilling cry that echoed across the ocean. The sound of pure rage reverberated through the heavens, sending shivers down the spines of all who heard it.
Lovrina and her Malamar teleported onto the Shadow Lugia's broad back, their eyes immediately locking onto Chris and his Mega Gardevoir as they materialized in the sky above Sea Mauville. Chris had already recalled his Mega Garchomp into its Poké Ball, preparing for what was to come.
"I really have to fight a Lugia..." Chris muttered under his breath, a mixture of determination and concern crossing his face.
The only encouraging news was that this particular Lugia wasn't at its peak strength—its level was only 83. This explained why the recommended entry level for the "Shadow Sea Mauville" dungeon was set at 90. It was still within the range of what Chris could potentially handle in battle.
"Zeraora, we have an interesting opponent today. Come out and show them what you can do!" Chris called out confidently.
He threw a Poké Ball high into the air, and in a flash of white light, his magnificent Zeraora appeared. The Electric-type Pokémon's white fur gleamed despite the dark storm clouds overhead.
Since Lugia was a Psychic and Flying dual-type, Chris's Electric-type Zeraora had a clear type advantage. The matchup was exactly what he needed for this challenging battle.
Standing on the Shadow Lugia's back, Lovrina's eyes suddenly blazed with excitement. "A Zeraora! What a powerful and incredibly rare Pokémon. If I could convert it into a Shadow Pokémon... the possibilities would be endless!"
Chris reached into his pocket and pulled out a brilliant yellow Z-Crystal, pressing it firmly against his Z-Power Ring. The crystal began to glow with intense energy.
"Zeraora, let's start this battle with our strongest attack!" Chris shouted. "Z-Move: Gigavolt Havoc!"
Golden sparks erupted from Chris's body as the Z-Power flowed through him. The electrical energy transferred directly into Zeraora's form as it hovered in mid-air. In the blink of an eye, the golden lightning transformed into a blindingly brilliant white radiance.
The power was overwhelming.
The gloomy storm clouds that had shrouded Sea Mauville were suddenly pierced by the intense light. A dazzling white sun seemed to descend from the heavens! The radiant glow was so bright that it became difficult to look directly at Zeraora's electrified form.
With precise control, Zeraora raised one clawed hand. A spear made of pure lightning materialized in its grasp, crackling with devastating power. The Z-Move's enhancement, combined with the 100% boost from Zapdos's Treasure and the doubled power of Electric-type moves, created an attack with lethality that far surpassed even that of legendary Electric Pokémon of the same level.
Zeraora drew back its arm and hurled the lightning spear with tremendous force.
White thunder blazed across the sky like a shooting star! The electrical lance tore through both clouds and space itself, aimed directly at the Shadow Lugia with the intent to pierce through its dark corruption.
While Wallace's Milotic might not have been able to react to such a swift attack, the much larger Shadow Lugia managed to respond. Its powerful arms crossed defensively in front of its chest, and a faint dark barrier immediately formed around its massive body.
The white thunder struck the shadowy shield with tremendous impact.
"CLANG!" A sharp, piercing sound rang out across the battlefield.
The lightning spear's incredible penetrating power became evident in that moment. The brilliant white thunder easily broke through the dark barrier and drove deep into Shadow Lugia's chest.
Welding-bright sparks flashed as the attack connected!
Surging electrical currents enveloped the Shadow Lugia's entire form, the intense voltage turning its black silhouette nearly white. The fierce sparks stimulated every muscle and nerve in its body, causing the legendary bird to tremble uncontrollably as it fought to remain airborne.
Lovrina had teleported away from Lugia's back just moments before the attack hit. Had she remained there when the thunder struck, it was questionable whether she would have survived the electrical assault.
Within seconds, the Shadow Lugia plummeted toward the ocean below, unable to maintain its flight.
"What terrifying power!" Lovrina gasped in shock. Her ultimate Shadow Pokémon, a legendary Lugia, had been rendered so vulnerable by Chris's Zeraora in just a single attack.
Chris immediately followed up his advantage. "Gyarados, use Ice Beam!" He threw another Poké Ball into the battle.
His shiny Red Gyarados emerged and dove toward the sea, completing its Mega Evolution instantly. The massive serpentine Pokémon unleashed a sweeping blast of freezing energy that covered nearly ten square sections of the surrounding ocean.
Any Shadow Pokémon that had been approaching the battle were instantly frozen solid. At the same time, the area of sea where Lugia was falling became completely iced over.
"CRASH!" The Shadow Lugia slammed into the newly formed ice sheet rather than plunging into the water below.
Chris had no intention of allowing Lugia to escape into the depths where it could launch surprise attacks from underwater. Although Lugia wasn't technically a Water-type, its lifetime spent in the ocean depths meant it had mastered numerous Water-type moves, making it effectively a half-Water Pokémon in terms of battle capability.
"Thunder!" Chris pressed his attack relentlessly.
Zeraora raised its claws skyward, calling down natural lightning to strike at the fallen Lugia. Even with its reduced level, Shadow Lugia remained a legendary Pokémon, meaning its stamina and endurance far exceeded that of ordinary Pokémon.
"Dragonite, go help Lugia!" Lovrina commanded desperately.
The Shadow Dragonite that had been battered by Mega Garchomp earlier hadn't lost its fighting ability entirely. The shadow corruption had granted it enhanced durability, and a single Dragon Rush attack, no matter how powerful, wasn't enough to defeat it completely.
The Shadow Dragonite burst forth from Sea Mauville, wreathed in a black aura of malevolent energy. It charged forward with a Dark-type attack, attempting to intercept Zeraora's incoming Thunder.
Witnessing this desperate maneuver, Chris shook his head with quiet disappointment. "You might be a brilliant scientist, Lovrina, but you're certainly not a qualified Pokémon trainer."
Even as he spoke, Chris was already reaching for another Poké Ball.
"Garchomp, you're up again!"
His ace Pokémon returned to battle immediately, undergoing Mega Evolution as it prepared its signature combination attack. Dragon Rush enhanced by Agility and Dragon Dance created a devastating triple-threat assault.
An emerald-green meteor of draconic energy collided head-on with the Shadow Dragonite, sending it flying backward. The dark dragon crashed into the ice sheet with such force that both it and the frozen surface shattered on impact.
"BOOM!"
"BZZZZT!" White lightning struck Shadow Lugia once again, electrical currents surging through its massive form. The Thunder attack sent waves of paralyzing energy coursing through the legendary bird's body.
"ROOOOOAR!" Rather than weakening it further, the electrical stimulation seemed to act like a defibrillator, shocking the Shadow Lugia back to full consciousness. Pain and fury twisted its features as it released another earth-shaking roar. Dark energy began radiating outward from deep within its core, expelling all traces of electrical current from its system.
"Huh? It can still fly?" Chris raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised by this development.
The Z-Move Gigavolt Havoc hadn't dealt the devastating damage he'd expected. But wait—hadn't it fallen from the sky moments ago due to lost power?
The realization struck him suddenly. Chris recognized what ability this Lugia must possess.
"Its ability is probably Multiscale, isn't it?"
Multiscale was a powerful defensive ability that reduced all incoming damage by half when the Pokémon was at full health. The Shadow Lugia had crashed earlier not from loss of power, but from paralysis caused by the electrical attack.
However, the outcome would ultimately remain the same. At worst, Chris would simply need to be patient and wear down his opponent over time.
Seeing her Shadow Lugia take flight once more, Lovrina breathed a sigh of relief. She pointed at Chris with renewed determination, her face twisted with malicious intent.
"Lugia, use Dark Storm!" she commanded.
The Shadow Lugia's blood-red eyes flashed with scarlet light as its enormous wings began to beat with tremendous force. Countless pitch-black tornadoes rose from the ocean surface, drawing up massive amounts of seawater as they spun. The dark twisters rushed toward Chris and his Pokémon with devastating intent, ready to engulf them in a maelstrom of shadow and storm!
