Chapter 13 - The dark storm

After attending a rather long meeting there, Rover is currently enjoying his last hot shower in the school's shower room.

Even though he feels some pain when the water meets his wounds that are still healing, he pushes through because this is his last chance to warm up and clean off the smell of blood that is still stuck to him.

He also wants to forget about all the never-ending problems in his life, at least for a little while.

After a while, he is still reluctant to turn off the tap and wants to stay there. "Alright, since there's nothing else to do now, I will try to see the benefits gained from the last fight."

At the same time, a screen appears with information and numbers displayed.

After staring at the screen for a moment, he became confused about the new skill he had never seen before. He didn't remember acquiring any skills lately, except for the Orb of Skill he received after his battle with the zombie leader.

W-Wait, the Orb of Skill? Is it what he thinks it is?

Curious, he immediately checked the description of the skill.

[Enchanted Mind (Classification: Skill) (Sequence 1) Grade 7: A skill acquired and activated accidentally before ultimately losing consciousness after the battle. This skill provides the user with a drastic enhancement in mental capabilities such as memory, reasoning speed, and increases understanding quickly. This skill is passive, so it does not require activation to take effect.]

He was somewhat surprised by the description as it matched his predictions. Could this also be due to the effect of his new ability? The only way to know his capability was to test it out directly. He quickly prepared his bathing session and started getting ready to go to the library for a hands-on test.

As everyone knows, Forbidden Avorm is the best education in the world and has a wide variety of facilities available for students to use to satisfy their needs; the library is one of these.

Currently, tucked into a corner of the library, there is a man who looks like he's paying great attention to the book in front of him. There are also many books piled up around the table that, if counted, might number up to the hundreds.

"Ugh, this is crazy; sitting for six hours has made my body ache all over. Especially with the cold weather outside, the situation is getting worse," he says while looking out the window beside him.

The cold storm has been raging for the last eight hours, making everything feel uncertain. He was lost in my thoughts when I suddenly heard footsteps behind me.

Turning around, I spotted a striking woman. She was dressed in a long black trench coat that reached all the way down, paired with black jeans that fit her perfectly.

Despite the heavy clothes, her beauty still shone through. In fact, there was something quite elegant and captivating about her. There's just something about the way she carried herself that made her stand out, even in such a bleak, cold setting.

Who else but Dai Yu.

"Hey, what are you doing at this hour?" Dai Yu said as she saw the stack of books scattered around Rover's table.

Rover, hearing her words, only glanced at her briefly before returning to his book and sighing.

"You know I'm just looking for something, since my phone is unusable right now. So we can only rely on the old method, which is searching through books."

Dai Yu, slightly intrigued by what he was looking for, decided to join him and sat down next to Rover.

Rover, seeing that Dai Yu was now beside him, could only be confused and curious about the reason for her presence here. However, within 5 seconds, he dismissed that thought and allowed himself to be beside her.

At this moment, he didn't have time to figure out why Dai Yu came here and needed to search for information as well as conduct an experiment on his new skill.

"So what are you doing to do? Who knows I can probably assist you in looking. Because now I'm not going to be able to sleep," she growled in a level tone but with a spark of interest hidden underneath.

Rover's eyebrows furrowed involuntarily on her words.

Wait, the so-called prime woman who isn't even chatty, never mind get close to anyone, is suddenly willing to assist him.

Sounds fishy, isn't it?

Nevertheless, that is not to say that he will not accept help.

"No thanks. But may I ask you for something? I won't force you if you don't want to."

Dai Yu, upon hearing Rover's request, was not quite clear on what he needed.

"Hmm, okay. Since it is not too taxing on me, then that is no issue.". And also this is as a thank you for helping me back then."

Rover immediately remembered when they were gathered and planning on that day. Remembering that, he could only shake his head, not expecting that Dai Yu had such an attitude.

"Alright, wait a moment. I'll be back soon."

Quickly, Rover took what was needed and returned shortly after.

Upon his return, Dai Yu could see Rover bringing a pale human body that looked familiar along with some materials whose functions and purposes she did not know.

"This is the body you carried back then, right?"

This referred to the time they were at the gym, where Dai Yu had accidentally seen Rover carrying a girl in his arms.

She had thought that the girl was simply sick or injured and needed help from Rover.

However, seeing Rover return with the body in such a pale state, she immediately concluded that the body he carried had been dead for quite some time.

"Yes, her name was Lily. I had to kill her because at that time she had already been bitten by a zombie. So, as her request before she died, she wanted to be buried at the edge of the cliff facing the sea."

"And have you thought about where she will be buried?"

"My thoughts are solely focused on one place, and that is Big Sur in California."

"That's a good choice, but the distance is very far. Not to mention the conditions we are currently facing, it's highly unlikely that we could go there."

"I know, we won't be able to do it any time soon. Therefore, to keep Lily's body intact until the designated time, I need your help with this."

After hearing Rover's request, Dai Yu had no choice but to cast her gaze at Rover and then at the body for quite a while.

After staring at the corpse, Dai Yu could only shake her head and then look at Rover with a gaze like a fool.

"It seems you don't need to do that."
