The chief nodded and pointed at the map.
"These marks show where the attacks happened," he said. "Every place was a vampire den. Every one of them is empty now."
Asher looked closely. "Any survivors?"
"No," the chief replied. "Not a single one."
Asher traced the pattern with his eyes. "It's moving in a line."
"Yes," the chief said. "Slow, but deliberate."
He tapped one mark near the edge of the domain. "This was the last attack. Two nights ago."
Asher straightened. "Then it hasn't left yet."
"We believe so," the chief said. "Our scouts stopped finding traces beyond this point."
Asher turned to him. "Why didn't you send your strongest?"
The chief's expression hardened slightly. "We did. Three elite teams."
Asher waited.
"None returned," the chief said.
Asher nodded once. "Where is this place?"
The chief gestured toward the door. "I'll have someone guide you."
"No," Asher said. "I don't need an escort."
