For a moment, I saw her eyes widen in shock; my words had clearly swept her off her feet.
She tore her gaze from mine and focused on the multiple printed pages of the contract.
"That's on you, not me," she replied sharply.
I chuckled. "Well, that's not happening," I told her, and she shrugged.
Elspeth seemed dedicated to this firm. I wanted to ask why she hadn't asked her parents for investment or scouted for investors, but it was clear she wasn't on good terms with them.
I had received a report that she stormed out of her house before sunrise a few days ago, and I'd been keeping an eye on her ever since. Just when I began looking for a way to get closer to the family and expose their dirty laundry, she offered herself to me. It felt like everything was aligning perfectly for my benefit, and I was eager to watch it unfold.
"So, when's the wedding?" I asked her.
