"Say yes," she whispered against his mouth. "Say you'll marry me. Say you want this as much as I do. Say I'm not alone in feeling like we've wasted too much time already and we can't afford to waste any more."
Her hand pressed over his heart again, feeling it beat, needing constant confirmation.
"Please," she breathed, vulnerability bleeding through every word. "Marry me. Let me be yours completely. Let me have the legal right to make medical decisions if something happens again. Let me have the security of knowing I'm your next of kin, your emergency contact, the person who gets to stay by your side no matter what hospital policies say."
She kissed him again, then again, unable to stop, needing the contact like she needed air.
