She walked slowly through the rows of desks, her eyes scanning computer screens, noting who had work open and who had been caught mid-distraction.
"Over the next two hours, I will be conducting individual reviews. Those who can demonstrate they're actually contributing to this company will keep their jobs. Those who can't will be terminated today. No warnings, no second chances. You're either an asset or you're gone."
A hand raised tentatively, a middle-aged white man in a rumpled suit. "Miss Zhou, with due respect, we have employment contracts, union agreements...."
"Your employment contracts have performance clauses," Zhou Yuxi interrupted. "I've read them. Failure to meet basic job requirements is grounds for immediate termination. As for unions, this office isn't unionized. Any other concerns?"
