I tear my gaze away from the window and glance at Niklaus. He's focused on the road, giving me the perfect chance to admire his face. He could easily be a model—his striking features alone would land him countless offers without any effort. Just as I'm about to look away, the car jerks suddenly.
"Damn, I didn't see the bump," Niklaus mutters, cursing under his breath. He flashes me a reassuring smile, and I return it. But before I turn away completely, my eyes catch something on the floor. A few photographs, likely knocked loose by the sudden movement.
Curious, I reach down, and my breath catches when I see one of them—a striking image of Niklaus standing beside someone who looks eerily like him. They both wear bright, genuine smiles, the kind I've never seen on Niklaus before. I study the picture closer. The man has the same long burgundy hair and similar features, but he appears older, more mature. His eyes are golden, not the blue-green of Niklaus's.
