Luo Xing let out a low, bitter chuckle, which seemed to have so many emotions behind it, and gently pulled the courtesan closer, arms wrapping around the other's slim waist. He gently buried his face in the crook of the courtesan's neck, inhaling the other's scent one last time, as he spoke with a bitter, broken voice. "*Don't* thank me for indulging your request. I'm only indulging you because I'm completely, wholeheartedly, and utterly head over heels in love with you. I would do *anything* for you."
There was the sound of shutting off a book, as the scene skipped to a modern day classroom. The black haired boy, who was reading the book, smiled as he looked at his friend beside him.
"So...that's the end of the book. That's all for the personal journal general Lou Xing of the Han dynasty, 206 BCE. People initially believed this was a story, but historians later inferred maybe it is based on his own experiences. This was the last work he wrote, before he succumbed to old age and died."
the other boy, who was sitting on a table opposite to the first one, hummed, "Hm. I guess. But the other person was never really named in the work, was it? I personally feel like it's fiction maybe. He did marry the third princess of if that dynasty, did he not? Princess Liu?"
The black haired boy also hummed, considering that possibility. It was true, the other person in the story was never named... But he shook his head, a look of certainty in his eyes. "I don't believe so. I mean.. Yeah, Princess Liu, he did marry a year after, but I don't believe he ever loved her. I mean, I've studied him many times, and have done many projects about General Lou. It was very clear his heart was only ever set on this other person."
The second boy rolled his eyes, "That just means you're a history geek, man." He glanced at the book, a thoughtful expression on his face. "This has been all the rage since the general's tomb was discovered by archaeologists."
The black haired boy let out a huff, as the other rolled his eyes. Yeah, he was a history geek... But he was good at it. He gently shut the book, smiling slightly before he looked at the other boy, responding with a smirk. "Wdll, yeah. Can you blame them, though? It's literally a love story from over 2000 years ago. It's romantic. And just because it's all the rage right now, doesn't mean it's incorrect. Do you know this was one of the very few things the general was buried with? Since he was essentially the head of the army in the Han dynasty, you'd expect him to have a lavish tomb, but it was really simple. Just this, and the gold remnants of the frame of a paper fan. Which is also a subject of intrigue, since the general was not known to use fans, and this particular style was either used by woman, or omegas."
The second biy rolled his eyes. "And what is your explanation for it, genius? You're getting that look. The one you do when you have your own conclusion and are itching for someone to ask."
The black haired boy smiled, smugly. He was, admittedly, a bit of a nerd, and he always did enjoy it when people asked and actually listened to his little rants. Especially about this. He was very passionate about it. He hummed, pausing before he responded, his fingers tapping against the table as he spoke, a smirk evident in his voice, "Well... It is mostly a conclusion. Though some historians have also come to the same conclusion. General Lou is rumored to have married Princess Liu... Though by all accounts, it's been said there was no sexual relations between the two. No offspring, nothing. And besides...it's obvious, isn't it? This fan obviously belonged to the person the story is about. Isn't it so romantic? He only lived for that person, and even in death, all he could think about was him."
The other hummed thoughtfully, "Do you think they meet again? Like...after that whole life."
The black haired boy hummed, a look of contemplation in his eyes. He..he didn't know. He's wondered that so many times. For a long while, he didn't respond, before he spoke after a long pause, his voice a bit hoarse, as he looked down at the desk. "...I hope so. For the General's and the courtesan's sake. After all, It's clear from the story he loved that person more than anything, and had been willing to do anything for them. Don't you think that love like that deserves to be reunited? There's a line written in the afterpage of the book, you know? 'In another life, you still would've turned my head.' I just think that's so sweet and also...sad. it was just so...pure."
The other boy rolled his eyes fondly at his friend, getting up and patting his back, "Well, they really were timeless. Now come on, it's almost time for gym class. Keep your geek history fangirling for later."
The boy snapped out of his thoughts, as the other boy patted his back. He always did get a bit too absorbed into that particular story. He chuckled, slightly embarrassed, as the other reminded him that gym class was coming up. He got up, grabbing his book, as he sheepishly walked beside the other. "Fine, I'll keep my 'geek history fangirling' down. You just have no taste."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever."
