Chapter 21 - Fundamental Training

They went to school and classes started and came by like it was nothing at all. Renji was hurrying Xin and Aizawa to get in the basketball gym on time.

As May have texted in their GC that they will have a fundamental training inside the gym.

"Hey Renji, we should hurry up, I think May will scold us if we are late! Just imagining her ferocious expression and punishments send chills on my spine!" Xin protested.

"Yeah, I deeply agree with him Renji." Aizawa said to him.

They ran to the gym and were sweating. Having been warmed up, they entered the gym and saw the others. They were already warming up and stretching. Having been seen, they all look forward to play.

"Ey, Renji, Aizawa and Xin are now here. Hurry up guys and join our punishment training!" Kevin said to the newly arrived people.

They immediately went to their locker and dressed with their basketball jerseys. Ren then went to join the others stretching. Some of them were shooting on the rim and others were doing jogs, running laps around the court.

"Looks like everyone were working hard." Kevin said to himself.

"Yeah! After seeing Aoi and Renji's 1v1, we are all on fire. We wanted to get stronger." Said Kishi.

Renji scratched his head, "Ah, haha, I didn't know it would inspire others."

"Well, we are inspired by Aoi, not you though." May interjected.

"Sigh, you are so cruel as always," Renji said to her.

"What are you waiting? Stretch now!" May then blew the whistle.

"Yes coach!" The three bowed then hurried to join the others.

They first went to jog from one side of the court to the other side. Then footwork and passing. Xin always passed faster than everyone. As always.

Then they went squats and training their vertical jumps. Not all were high jumpers and also, only Kevin, Renji, Aizawa and Jin were the only ones that could dunk.

May listed their strengths and weaknesses. She then realized that their team were formidable but compared to the Prodigy teams of the Renji's past teammates, they all lacked. And to supplement their weakness, they had to endure the harsh game until the end, so they need to have cardio training.

Breathing methods and master level of conservation of energy. They all need to play without rest until the fourth quarter. By doing that, their bodies would adapt to the harsh plays and even survive even without benching. Much more, if they would rest in quarters between. That could make them at least last in the court.

Not only that, they had to solve their weaknesses first. Shin was a good mid range shooter but easily distracted. Kevin has a tiring position which makes his plays lesser and lesser effective when the fourth quarter came. Jin too, he lacked stamina. And Shiki was weak in defending. Aizawa was still newbie and Xin was weak in dribble and def. And Renji was still weak in bodily foundations and stamina.

Ever since he got regressed, he weirdly lost his copycat abilities. Maybe it was the price for his regression. Or so he theoried that it lacked stimulant to recover it. Or in certain cases that needs to be triggered.

And so May addressed their weaknesses. She made them all fix their weaknesses first before sharpening their strengths. And so she made an announcement.

"Everyone! I will train you all and will prioritize your weaknesses first. Your strengths will get sharpened later if you will all overcome your weaknesses. So starting today. You will all have a personal training." She said to them.

Shin was told to told to shoot while being guarded by two guards. She told him to use step back and fade away technique or maybe even dribble the ball and a fast release that even guards will have a hard time to react.

Kevin was told to get exhausted first and then when he was barely even breathing, he would need to score while being guarded in a 1v1 battle. Same issues were with Renji. So the two played 1v1 after a breathless training.

Then Xin and Aizawa went to do guard training while having baggy vest. They need to guard second years while wearing those.

And so they went trashed by second years.

Shiki was a point guard but weak in def. He then went in stealing practice. And also sidesteps training to chase a slasher with his slashes.

Meanwhile, May was happily watching them, but she felt inside, that they were still lacking, some thoughts were bothering her. She was thinking that they would still lose despite her training. But she dismissed the thoughts.

The time on the clock was 10 pm and it was the curfew. After their training, she made an announcement, "Everyone, make sure to eat well and rest early. We will have a training camp for a week before the designated time before facing Aoi's team."

"Yes! A training camp!" Shouted Kevin. All went excited then murmured.

"Everyone, you are all required to jog every morning and meet here in the afternoon. I will train your weaknesses first before sharpening your strengths. Also, we must consume meat! And protein shakes too. So we will have to have a chunk of your allowances for this." She said.

Ren then was smirking, he thought that he has no money for the consumption of meat and protein shakes. All in all, he has to save up money for this.

"We will continue this training every afternoon then I will make sure your defense as a whole will be put to a standard. Especially man to man lockdown, and also types of defense formation. Dismissed!" May announced.

"Thank you for your hard work!" They all bowed and then Renji went sore, he went home but felt relieved. Kevin also felt that Renji has more potential as an Ace. To think that he would beat him in their training. Though even it was just a training, he felt that Renji has more to show and his potential was dormant. Or so he thought.
