Everyone looked at her, and when they did, a soft murmur echoed through the room, as gentle as a caress of the wind but so strong that it made the bodies of those who heard it tremble.
"Freeze." Valery's eyes flashed intensely before disappearing, then she turned her gaze to each of the soldiers and looked at their knives. She immediately knew where they came from, but she didn't care. Valery knew that it wasn't her vampires who had died, so she didn't care whether they killed vampires or not.
"Valery, is it necessary?" Victor asked as he stepped out from behind Valery, his gaze directed at the soldiers who were frozen in place, each with a strange expression, almost as if they were making a funny face.
"If you keep firing bullets, they could ricochet and hurt you," Valery said, not including the family in her comment.
"Thanks, Valery, but it's not necessary. We'll just make them afraid of us," Victor tried to reason with her.
