After all that mess and an extremely awkward breakfast me and Lisa left and headed for school.
There was a bit of silence in the air, I looked over at Lisa and she had an unreadable expression on her face.
"Um... Are you ok?" I asked.
She then looked at me not saying anything for a good three seconds before letting out a small sigh. "Yeah I'm fine, it's just... It's like your "aunt" sed, I'm your girlfriend, you shouldn't keep secrets from me."
"Yeah... I just... Didn't think it was important."
Now I felt guilty, I didn't want to hurt her in anyway, I just didn't want her to know about my living situation, after all she'd probably worry a lot about me, I didn't want to put that burden on her. "Jack, you know your really stupid sometimes... Your lucky I like you so much."
We trotted ahead and crossed the street and then made a left, hearing main Street passing the old clock tower, looking at it still gave me the creeps after what happened underneath there. "So, do you have any other secrets?"
"No, I promise I don't."
I kept my eyes on her a few more seconds before saying. "I promise no more secrets... "
She looked at me again and then smiled.
"Alright. I guess I can forgive you, besides I know your probably had a good reason why you didn't tell me..."
She studied my face a bit more before giggling to herself a bit. Covering her mouth with her tiny hand. "I guess we're the same huh? My mom's a deadbeat and so's your parents heh-"
I frowned a bit. "They aren't deadbeats... At least... Not on purpose, they have work to do in Africa... And I'm sure your mother never meant to abandon you if you feel like that, not that that it's my place to say but... She only left out of duty and it's only temporary right?"
She gave a thoughtful look and nodded.
"I guess your right... It just... Feels like that sometimes, you know?"
Deep down. I kinda felt the same.
"Yeah... "
Not that I'd say it out loud.
"So... Are you ready for what me and Bill have planned for you after school?"
"We're going to hollow earth again yeah?"
"Yep." She grinned.
"This will be for your first actual hunt. Hehe~"
She gave me a nudge.
"Are you excited?"
"Uhhh...." After what happened the last time I was down there, not particularly.
She frowned a bit.
"Jack, remember you signed up for this when you sed you wanted to become a hunter..."
"I know, I know, it's just... Its a little scary going down there again after seeing you nearly killed."
"But remember, you saved us all."
"It wasn't me, it was God working through me."
"Yeah I know, but still... Your a lot stronger then you think. You've improved in fighting a lot more sense you were down there."
"I guess... But I thought that hunters usually hunt up here whenever there's a threat to the surface."
She nodded.
"We do, but you see a lot of our people enter hollow earth to study the land and harvest arc crystals, see sometimes arc energy gathers up into one place and becomes liquid, and if it doesn't move for a while it becomes shards of Chrystal, so we take the shards and study them and use them with our experiments, but usually in places where they harden monsters show up and attack the minors."
"I see... "
"We also use the shards to power force fields in our settlements to keep all those who dwell in them safe, unless they've been approved by the church they can't enter, the reason why those goblins were able to get through is because someone had hijacked the generator."
I raised an eyebrow.
"Really? Why? Who?"
She shrugged.
"Obviously it was an enemy of the church, but who I have no idea, whoever It was he either worked with or for us, in other words he was a double agent. They've been running an investigation sense."
"Geez... But. Lisa... Tell me... I know you guys deal with sorcerers, do you think it was one of them? Maybe they've infiltrated the church?"
"Maybe... But the council of seven is to huberistic to see that possibility, my father was one of the only people to recognize this, it's been that way sense the beginning... After all if they had been paying attention to the signs they would have recognized that-"
She stopped herself.
"What?"
She then looked at me and shook her head.
"Better for Bill to tell you then me. Come on, we're gonna be late."
She walked forward.
I stood there for a moment confused, but I shrugged and moved on, whatever it was it must be really important for her to keep to herself until Billy could tell me.
