"The Dark Mark… it's becoming more and more visible… Lucius suspects that he is coming back…"
"They said that after the tournament is over, they want to have some fun with the Muggles near the campsite… also… also to send a signal to him… in case he really is still alive…"
"I don't want… don't want him to come back… Even when the Master was still alive, he was becoming more and more brutal. If he returns, he'll definitely punish us… we're all traitors…"
Grover Goyle had no resistance to Veritaserum. He stammered through his account, while Sirius Black's expression grew darker and darker.
Sirius walked over, grabbed Goyle's left sleeve, pulled it up, and stared intently at the mark on his arm.
It was a faint red tattoo of a skull with a snake coming out of its mouth. It looked sinister, with a strange and eerie aesthetic.
Sirius stared coldly at it for a while before asking, "Who else is supposed to act with you?"
After two seconds, Grover Goyle mumbled a string of names: "Lucius, Crabbe, Nott, McNeil…"
…
Half an hour later, Grover Goyle fell asleep again. To be safe, Sirius also used a Memory Charm to ensure that when he woke up, he wouldn't be able to speak of what happened.
The two of them used the Disillusionment Charm again to go downstairs.
As they reached the entrance, they saw Goyle accidentally set his robe on fire. He was screaming and frantically slapping at it. His mother ran out from the tent and tore off the robe with a loud rip and threw it away.
Amidst the chaos, Sirius and Wade slipped away unnoticed.
"Good thing you were so observant, Wade," Sirius said in a low voice. "Otherwise, by the time we saw the Dark Mark over a dead body, it would've been too late to catch anyone."
Wade knew he probably wouldn't be involved in the next steps, so he asked, "What are you planning to do about this?"
"This is a great opportunity," Sirius said with a dangerous smile. "Thirteen years ago, they used the excuse of being under the Imperius Curse to avoid being sent to Azkaban. This time, if we catch them in the act, that excuse won't work."
He handed Wade back his wand and told him to return to the tent, then Disapparated immediately.
Wade put away the wand, leaving the barely-used one behind. As he walked back to the tent, he thought over the plot of the original story.
Harry and Lupin were probably still with the Weasleys and hadn't returned yet. Only Kreacher was there, diligently preparing lunch, with the smell of fried steak wafting from the kitchen.
Wade sat down, poured himself a cup of hot tea, and drank it in one gulp.
There was no way the Death Eaters could stir up trouble at the camp now. If things went well, the Ministry of Magic would catch them all.
But Wade had little confidence in the Aurors' ability to act. Even the members of the Order of the Phoenix might not be able to stop the Death Eaters from escaping—unless Dumbledore got involved himself.
As he recalled, Lucius Malfoy and his accomplices were once imprisoned—after they attacked the Ministry of Magic. Dumbledore personally intervened and trapped most of the Death Eaters, making it impossible for them to resist or escape.
Although Wade hadn't seen the Headmaster in the camp so far, after Sirius contacted him, he would probably show up, right?
Now that things were dealt with, Wade felt he should relax, but deep down, a strong sense of unease still lingered.
He gently rubbed the teacup and thought to himself: In the end, what connection is there between the Death Eaters causing trouble at the camp in the middle of the night and that dream I had?
In the original story, no one died that night. In fact, people like Malfoy were now hiding and avoiding attention. Even with their faces concealed, they didn't have the courage to kill. They only wanted to create a bit of moderate chaos.
Perhaps the experience was terrifying for the Muggle caretaker's family, but for most wizards, it was more startling than truly dangerous. For young wizards like Harry and his friends, it was nothing more than getting caught in the edge of a storm—just a light drizzle.
The worst consequence was that Barty Crouch Jr. escaped during the chaos.
Wade's movements paused.
—Yes, in the original story, Barty Crouch Jr. would take advantage of this chaos to escape.
But now, he has already escaped and returned to Voldemort's side. Even Gale Troka and Lockhart had fallen into their hands.
Harry has come to the camp to watch the Quidditch World Cup. Wizards everywhere are casting spells, Apparating at all hours. The Ministry of Magic is overwhelmed and unable to properly monitor everything.
Compared to sneaking someone out of the heavily guarded Hogwarts, wouldn't it make more sense to act here?
Wade stared at the teacup in his hand. After a moment, he poured himself another cup of hot tea, slowly drank it, and then turned the cup upside down.
As the tea drained away, the remaining tea leaves at the bottom formed a chaotic pattern. Wade gently rotated the saucer.
Skull… skull… skull… skull.
From every angle, the leftover tea leaves appeared in the shape of a skull.
[Death, danger… a potential fatal threat…]
Wade recalled the descriptions from his Divination textbook, then looked at the scattered tea leaves around the skull that almost formed a circle.
[Surrounded by shadow… symbolizing amplified danger, requiring extreme vigilance…]
"This is a bad omen! A terribly bad omen!"
Wade recalled how Professor Trelawney, while teaching that section, had widened her eyes and breathed heavily, saying:
"If you ever see a pattern like this, you must be careful! You must be careful, my dear… it means death is staring at you… you must be extremely cautious and avoid all dangerous places!"
"I have done all I can to warn you, but I hope you never—ah—never encounter such terrible things… Merlin bless you… stay away from the Veil of Death…"
Trelawney had ended her class with her usual dramatic flair, and finally slumped into her chair and mumbled to herself like she'd just remembered something terrifying.
But Wade remembered that after that class, several Gryffindors wrote about seeing skulls and crosses in their Divination homework and made up elaborate life-threatening crises for themselves.
Thinking about Professor Trelawney's wide-eyed expression, Wade couldn't help but smile. But when he looked down and saw the skull in the saucer again, he sighed.
"So really… what use is Divination? It tells you there's danger, but not where it's coming from… Staying in the camp could be dangerous, but maybe leaving the camp is where the real danger lies…"
Wade muttered softly as he set down the saucer. By chance, he caught sight of the book "The History of the Quidditch World Cup" on the bookshelf and a faint thought stirred in his mind.
