Chapter 368 - Chapter 368: Broad Beans

Phil was startled and leaned back, only to be caught by a hand.

"Be careful," Wade said.

Phil turned his head and saw that he had almost bumped into the Red Cap magic Doll. The doll, which had just been as still as a statue, was now rolling its eyes and glaring at him menacingly.

The reflection in the mirror showed a fierce-looking person, and the magic Doll behind him exuded an equally murderous aura. Phil froze on the spot.

Wade patted the doll's head and said, "Go wait by the wall."

Just as Phil was about to stand up, he saw the doll obediently nod, walk to the wall and stand still, and then lean on the wooden stick in its hand like a cane.

Wade sat down beside Phil and said, "Don't worry, that person is all the way in London."

"Mm." Phil nodded and unconsciously moved a little closer to Wade.

...

Inside a dilapidated building, Claire rushed to the window and saw an owl perched outside. It remained unbothered by her sudden movement and tilted its head as it looked at her.

"It's fine, just an owl."

Claire turned to reassure her companions, then looked back to see the owl elegantly lift one of its claws. It was holding a letter and a snakeskin pouch.

"A letter from a wizard?"

Fatos limped over to the window, and upon seeing this, he said angrily:

"You're contacting wizards now? Do you have any idea how those people see us? Have you forgotten the harm they've caused you?"

"I remember. Of course, I remember," Claire replied. "But I believe not every wizard is bad! And if we want to escape the fate of being werewolves, only wizards might have a way."

"Wizards have no solution!" Fatos roared. "It's been thousands of years—if they had a solution, there wouldn't be werewolves in the world anymore!"

He looked as furious as a raging bear, but Claire wasn't afraid at all. As she read the letter, she retorted,

"Just because there wasn't a way before doesn't mean there won't be one in the future! Look at how the world is changing—I believe anything is possible."

"Will thought the same way, and where is he now?" Fatos snapped angrily. "I won't let you end up like him!"

Claire ignored him. After finishing the letter, she fed the owl some jerky, then quickly found a scarf and wrapped it around her head and neck, leaving only her eyes and the top of her head exposed.

"You're going to Diagon Alley?" Fatos panicked. "What did that letter say? Don't go! Or at least wait until I—"

"You're overthinking," Claire said. "No one asked me to meet them. That person just sent me payment. I'm going to buy medicine for you—real magical potions. Your wounds will heal instantly."

She took out her money pouch and showed it briefly—a small pile of gleaming gold Galleons nearly dazzled Fatos.

After finishing her words, Claire didn't wait for Fatos to stop her. She dashed down the stairs and her footsteps grew more distant.

Fatos stood there stiffly for a moment before turning to see the owl still perched on the windowsill. He took a few steps closer, pulled out a slip of paper, and hastily scrawled a line in messy handwriting:

[If you need anything, come to me. Don't harm Claire! I'm a werewolf too!]

He rolled up the note and tried to hand it to the owl, but it refused to take it.

Fatos understood. "Oh, you want payment, huh? Wizards' owls are all this cunning…"

Muttering complaints, he pulled out some jerky, tore off a long strip, and fed it to the owl.

"Go on, you little devil! Take my message to your master—tell them to come for me if they have a problem! If anything happens to Claire, I'll hunt you all to the ends of the earth!"

The owl clamped onto the jerky, grabbed the note, spread its wings, and soared into the sky.

It flew high, and soon, it spotted Claire running through the streets again.

The thick scarf was a bit of an eyesore, but she had no choice.

People afflicted with lycanthropy are different from ordinary humans even in their normal state. Some parts of their appearance would take on wolf-like traits.

For some, the changes are minor—just slight abnormalities that aren't easy to notice. They could blend in among ordinary people or even wizards without much trouble, like Will or Lupin.

But others underwent more obvious transformations—forehead, eyes, nose, teeth, ears—any part of their face could become unnaturally altered, making their identity as a werewolf instantly recognizable.

Claire's mouth and nose had changed noticeably, making it easy for any wizard to tell she was a werewolf. Wizards' children began learning how to identify and kill werewolves as early as their third year of school.

Even though the Ministry of Magic had recently passed laws forbidding wizards from harming non-human magical beings, many still took pride in hunting werewolves.

Because of this, Claire had no choice but to work in the Muggle world—Muggles didn't know werewolves existed; they just thought she was an unusual-looking girl.

She had found jobs where she could wear a mask, allowing her to make a living.

But if she wanted to obtain Wolfsbane Potion, she had to interact with the wizarding world, exchange money at Gringotts, and every trip to Diagon Alley felt like an adventure.

Eva turned her gaze.

The letter had been delivered, and the reply was secured. It couldn't wait to return to its master.

So, without pausing, it changed direction and flew toward Hogwarts.

As the scene turned into vast white clouds, with occasional glimpses of sprawling farmland, Wade put away the Streaming Mirror.

"Is that all?" Phil asked.

"Yes," Wade replied with a smile. "Thank you for your help, Phil."

"You're welcome. Phil is happy to help," Phil said shyly. "Phil needs to go to work now—today's tasks were all completed by Zoe and Happy."

"Then I should thank them as well. But of course, the biggest help was you." Wade turned and asked, "Phil, is there anything you want? I can buy it for you."

"Phil… um… Phil…"

The house-elf swayed slightly, as if wanting to say something but holding back.

Wade already knew how to handle moments like this.

He said, "It's okay. I want to know—please tell me."

The moment the words took on a commanding tone, Phil visibly relaxed.

Twisting his long fingers shyly, he whispered, "Phil… Phil would like… a broad bean?"

"—A broad bean?" Wade was puzzled. "What kind of broad bean?"

Isn't that something the kitchen had plenty of?

Phil explained, "Not an ordinary broad bean… but… but one like Zoe's… a summoning broad bean…"

Wade suddenly understood.

His very first alchemy creation wasn't the Book of Friends, but a tiny broad bean meant for his protection, which he had given to Zoe.

Over time, he had no longer needed it and had almost completely forgotten about it. He hadn't expected the house-elves to remember.

Wade smiled and said, "Alright. Tomorrow morning, you'll receive your gift."

Phil beamed with joy.
