Chapter 416 - Chapter 415: Foreshadowing One, Two, Three, Four

Although gold and silver treasures are quite tempting, at this moment, the pirates have no interest in them they only want to reclaim their sense of being human.

By now, the pirates had gathered 881 gold coins, with only Elizabeth's coin remaining.

On the Interceptor, Gibbs told Will Turner about Captain Jack's past, and revealed that Will's father, Bill Turner, was once Jack's other first mate.

As a result of supporting Jack, Bill Turner was executed.

Barbossa had marooned Captain Jack on a deserted island and even gave him a pistol with a single bullet so he could kill himself. But to everyone's surprise, Jack the cockroach actually escaped and was now back on the journey to reclaim the Black Pearl.

Only then did the audience understand the deeper backstory.

On the other side, the pirates had finally gathered all the coins and were preparing to use Elizabeth's blood for the blood ritual. Elizabeth was terrified, trying desperately to escape but was unable to.

Just as she feared she'd be beheaded by the pirates, Barbossa unexpectedly pulled out a small dagger and made a cut on her palm, letting her blood drip onto the coin.

Elizabeth had a face full of confusion: "That's it?"

Not only Elizabeth, even the audience in the theater was baffled. So this is what the infamous blood ritual is? They'd thought it would be much bloodier maybe even that Elizabeth would be dismembered!

But surprisingly, this subversion of expectations made the audience like the film even more.

All in all, this was a lighthearted and humorous pirate adventure. While there were some thrilling and scary moments, the story was quite entertaining.

Elizabeth's blood had no effect, and only then did Barbossa realize he had been tricked. His crew, realizing the same, turned on him, ready to kill Barbossa.

At that moment, Will Turner and Captain Jack sneaked in. Will rescued Elizabeth, while Jack got captured again and was locked in the brig of the Black Pearl.

Barbossa then led the Black Pearl in pursuit of the Interceptor, beginning a spectacular sea chase.

The Interceptor had no ammunition left, so the crew had to use whatever they could find pots, pans, anything turning them into makeshift cannonballs to fight back against the Black Pearl.

And wouldn't you know it, Elizabeth, the governor's daughter, showed a surprising talent for command. Under her leadership, they actually held their own against the Black Pearl.

"So satisfying, so exciting. This scene is really fun I love it," said Noel.

"I feel this battle is on par with the Battle of Jutland," Hutchinson agreed.

Even though it was only a two-ship battle, it was shot with such blood-pumping intensity it could be the greatest 16th–17th century sea battle ever put on film. No movie could top it.

Eventually, the Interceptor ran out of options. The crew was captured, and the ship was sunk.

Barbossa took Will Turner away and marooned Captain Jack and Elizabeth on a deserted island, leaving them to die.

But if Jack could escape once, he could escape again this time, with Elizabeth's help.

Elizabeth lit a bonfire for rescue. Jack scoffed at it and tried to think of his own way out. But when he looked out over the sea, he was stunned to see a Royal Navy vessel anchored offshore.

"I'm never dealing with this girl again!" Jack's sarcastic complaint earned laughter from the audience.

The one who came to rescue Elizabeth was Norrington. After they boarded, Jack once again found himself at gunpoint with a gun that would never hit him and didn't dare move.

Elizabeth begged Norrington to rescue Will Turner. Of course, Norrington didn't want to.

Elizabeth then promised that if he saved Will, she would marry him. Only then did Norrington agree.

The final battle was about to begin. At the cave entrance, Jack said he would go in and lure the pirates out so Norrington and his men could ambush them.

But this time, Norrington had learned his lesson. He agreed on the surface, but secretly ordered his soldiers to lie in ambush on both sides of the cave entrance.

The climactic finale didn't disappoint. When Jack met Barbossa, he launched into his usual smooth-talking, persuading Barbossa to attack the British warship and its soldiers waiting outside.

Because they still needed their undead powers, they couldn't sacrifice Will Turner just yet.

As he said this, Jack quietly palmed an Aztec gold coin and deliberately cursed himself, turning into one of the undead.

All of this was seen by Will Turner.

The battle began. Using their undead nature, the pirates turned into underwater skeletons and walked along the sea floor.

The ambushing soldiers at the cave entrance had no idea what was happening. By the time they noticed, the skeletal pirates had already climbed up from the water and boarded the warship.

Norrington quickly led his men to counterattack, but found that these pirates couldn't be killed they were all undead.

Scarlett began another of her trademark sarcastic quips: "If I had an immortal body like that, even missiles and aircraft carriers couldn't stop me. I'd like to see the navy try to stop me from being a pirate!"

"But darling, the reality is, you'll never have an immortal body," Gilbert mercilessly shattered Skarlett's fantasy.

Scarlett gave a little huff, looking adorable.

She bit Gilbert's arm lightly, leaving a tiny bite mark.

After carefully inspecting it, Scarlett reached a conclusion: This definitely wasn't the world of Pirates of the Caribbean, and she couldn't become an undead. She was quite disappointed.

Not just her even the audience watching the pirates stroll casually along the ocean floor started imagining things they'd normally never dare do.

Take Noel, for example he fantasized about punching his boss in the face, since that guy always gave him thankless tasks.

Hutchinson, on the other hand, wanted to catch fish at the bottom of the sea. He never caught anything when fishing before. With an immortal body, he could just grab fish directly underwater.

Amid the chaos, Elizabeth sneaked aboard the Black Pearl and freed its crew.

Meanwhile, Jack and Barbossa began to fight. The flashy swordplay was visually thrilling. But Jack had no chance after all, Barbossa was undead.

But just when Barbossa stabbed his sword into Jack's chest, Jack didn't die either.

Just then, the moonlight from the hole in the cave ceiling shone down, revealing Jack's skeletal form. This time, it was Barbossa's turn to be shocked Jack had done it too.

What followed left the audience, who had never seen such a scene before, gaping and unable to look away.

Jack and Barbossa fought in and out of the moonlight, sometimes appearing as flesh, sometimes as skeletons. Whether it was long shots or close-ups, the visuals were flawless, and the skeleton combat scenes were vivid and lifelike.

This special effect, of course, came from the hands of Industrial Light & Magic. At the time, Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush used motion capture technology to complete the shoot.

Neither actor used a stunt double in this scene all the action was performed by themselves.

But continuing the fight like this was meaningless. Will Turner used his blood to lift the curse. The immortality ended, and outside the cave, the pirates were quickly defeated by the soldiers.

Barbossa was shot in the chest by Jack using the very pistol Barbossa had once given Jack, the one with only a single bullet.

But Barbossa was pleased, because he could finally feel something even if it meant dying.

"Didn't they say Barbossa couldn't die?"

"Yeah, that's what they said on the forums."

"That info wasn't reliable then. With the curse lifted, Barbossa should be dead."

"What a shame. I actually liked Barbossa."

In response, Geoffrey Rush, sitting in the creators' row, chuckled to himself he wasn't going to die that easily.

What followed was the film's conclusion. Though Jack had done a good deed, he still faced the gallows.

At the crucial moment, Will Turner rushed in to rescue him, and Norrington let Jack go, allowing him to return to the Black Pearl. Captain Jack once again sailed the open seas, continuing his pirate life.

Meanwhile, Will Turner won the Governor's favor and successfully married Elizabeth. The two kissed under the setting sun.

This scene had Orlando Bloom's fans grinding their teeth, while Keira Knightley's portrayal of Elizabeth won over plenty of new fans many of whom were internally screaming: Let it be me...

At the very end of the film was a small post-credit scene. Barbossa's monkey stole a coin and turned immortal again, and then the film ended.

This final scene sparked speculation could Barbossa still be alive?

Indeed, this was a suspenseful note left for the audience, hinting that a sequel might be planned.

When the film ended and the theater lights came on, the fantastic fantasy adventure pirate film won over everyone. The audience gave the movie a long, enthusiastic round of applause.

Gilbert led the main cast and crew on stage to bow. The applause continued for a long time, only stopping after the third curtain call.

During the subsequent Q&A session, many questions were asked, including what inspired Gilbert to write the story.

That question came from Noel whom Gilbert knew well. A loyal fan of The Lord of the Rings books and films, Noel had become a Pirates of the Caribbean fan after attending the premiere.

In response, Gilbert gave his usual answer that he came up with the idea while riding a pirate ship.

This answer left his Hollywood peers speechless. Gilbert could come up with such an amazing story while riding a pirate ship; all they ever felt was centrifugal force. That's the difference.

Regarding the final post-credit scene, Gilbert explained: "Actually, there's a rough outline for a trilogy. But of course, whether we get a sequel depends on how this first film does at the box office."

In other words: give it your all, contribute to the box office, or there won't be a sequel.

The fans understood immediately and promised to rally everyone they knew to support the movie.

And they weren't mindless fanboys or fangirls Pirates of the Caribbean truly had all the qualities of an excellent commercial film. Supporting it was well worth it.

As for whether Captain Barbossa was really dead, Gilbert left that question to Geoffrey Rush.

"I'm immortal, remember?"

"But the curse is lifted!"

"Is it really?"

That brief exchange was packed with meaning, and the audience's minds began to race.

Gilbert then handed over the spotlight to the cast, while he went to chat with the attending guests.

Avril Lavigne had nervously watched the whole movie. Though it wasn't a horror film, she still found it terrifying.

But being a rock girl, she would never admit to being scared she'd rather say there was something wrong with Gilbert.

The first thing she said was, "The film was really well done. I loved it. But I won't be going to see it a second time."

Gilbert curiously asked, "Why not?"

Before Avril could respond, Emma Watson chimed in, "Because she was scared. She was clinging to my hand the whole time."

Avril turned and glared at Emma, her face turning red.

Emma added, "Don't be fooled by my age—I'm braver than someone here."

Watching the two girls bicker like roosters, Gilbert didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Emma Watson's behavior was expected, but even Vivienne was acting like a little girl… utterly baffling.
