Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Unreasonably Frustrated

Unreasonably Frustrated

"Oh he left," Kael said when Zenon left the door frame without saying a word. "Is that boss of yours always this grumpy early in the morning? I even made him a cup of my special version of coffee, now I have to drink both. Will I be able to sleep tonight?"

"He is until he has his morning coffee. Why don't you bring it to his study?" Marta suggested.

"But…" he hesitated but added in a low voice, almost a whisper, "...he hates me. I'm not getting burned with hot coffee, am I?"

Marta shook his head. "He wouldn't do that. He'll just ask you to leave."

Kael slumped himself on a chair. "Then let's save him the trouble and leave him alone. I won't let anyone spoil a day as beautiful as today."

Because today he has somewhere to go. Leon came yesterday calling him 'cousin-in-law' and invited him to a place he would never ever refuse to go. He changed immediately after breakfast, putting on a baby blue shirt and a pair of shorts that would reach the knees.

"Sir Leon had arrived," Laian informed. With that, Kael hastily put on his shoes and flew out from his room as fast as lightning.

Descending the stairs, Kael didn't notice one of his laces got untied and stepped on it midway the stairs. His eyes grew wide as he fell down the stairs, flying. He even got a glimpse of Leon, with eyes wide as he is, before he closed his eyes to brace for the impact.

But before Kael had fully fallen off the stairs, a strong arm had caught him by his stomach. His eyes automatically opened and turned his head, only to see the alpha's handsome face with his brows furrowed.

"Are you trying to break some bones?" he scolded.

Zenon was taken aback when Kael flashed a smile, displaying his full set of white teeth, his eyes bright, and a small dip on his cheeks that he didn't notice before. "Gosh, you saved my ass. I'll take it back, you aren't grumpy at all," then he lets out a few nervous chuckles.

A few minutes had already passed but they're still in the same position, Zenon didn't take his eyes away at all nor loosen his arms around Kael's waist, if anything his arm groped him even tighter.

Kael had no choice but to move his eyes away from his first as he felt his ears flushed in embarrassment under his gaze. "Uhh, this is the part where you let go of me?"

And as if a light switch was struck, Zenon took his arms back so suddenly it made Kael lose his balance and was about to fall again but was caught again by the back of his collar.

Leon had no choice but to watch the scene unfold as the two bickers while descending the stairs.

"Cousin-in-law!" Kael immediately greeted as soon as he descended the stairs.

"Cousin-in-law!" Leon greeted back followed by fist bumps, hand clasps, and body bumping.

'How did they even get so close?' Zenon thought looking at the two acting as if they had been friends for a long time where in fact, Kaisen always avoids people unless necessary to meet them.

"Why are you here?" Zenon asked Leon, which immediately gave him his attention.

"Oh I came for my cousin-in-law. You weren't here when I came yesterday and told him to take him out," Leon said while his eyes drifted to Kael who was busy tying his shoe on one of the couches.

"Why?" He asked but immediately took it back. "Forget I asked. Take him wherever, who cares."

"Hear that, cousin-in-law? We're good to go! I'll wait for you in the car."

Kael stood up, his laces tied securely. "Why are you asking for his permission, you idiot cousin-in-law?" Kael shouted back as he followed Leon out of the house, ignoring Zenon's watchful eyes.

Kael couldn't wipe off the grin on his face in anticipation as soon as they arrived, more so when he heard the faint sound of a roaring engine.

"The family owned this racing complex, since you're already part of the family you can come as you like."

Damn, he'll live here if allowed. This is basically his home. Kael thought he'd miss racing while he's staying in New York but hell this is a treat! Kael was keeping a restrained exterior but he is in fact screaming inside in his head.

Kael's jaw fell in awe when he saw the whole racetrack. They are probably at the edge of the city seeing the mountains and trees beyond the arena's fences. A few cars run against the asphalt leaving smoke behind them.

Leon handed him a flyer of the track's layout and Kael was bewildered by the numbers of curves on it. If you're not skillful enough, you'll end up in a very bad shape.

"I really never thought you'd be interested in coming, cousin-in-law."

"Ha, are you kidding me? This is basically the half of my life," Kael answered without hesitation.

Leon's face contorted in confusion, "But aren't you scared of driving cars?"

"Huh? Why would I?" He loves driving. The fastest, the coolest.

"Well, I heard you got into a car accident then. It was on the news."

Oh, Kaisen did? Then that would be too bad. He planned on teaching him to crash cars when he found him though. Kael was planning to change the topic, thankfully a few men called out Leon's name.

"Leon! It's been a while, man." A man in his red fire suit walked towards them, followed by two more men behind him, also in their suits.

Leon greeted them with fist bumps. "You weren't here the last time I visited."

"You up for a race?"

Leon shook his head. "No, man. I just toured my cousin's husband around."

Their eyes immediately found Kael silently standing behind Leon with his hands in his pocket. The guy leaned in to whisper, "Is this really the Kaisen Ashworth?" however it was loud enough for Kael to hear so he extended his hand to them.

"Nice to meet ya! You can call me Kael. Kaisen is kinda not suitable for me." Because he isn't Kaisen anyway. He wanted to voice out the rest but chose not to.

The man in the yellow racing suit reached out his hand first to meet Kael's. "Benedict, but people call me Ben. This is Cole," pointing at the man in red suit, "And this is Javier," pointing at the man in a blue suit standing behind him who only waves his hand in response.

"You aren't as flashy as shown in televisions," Cole commented. He let out a groan when he received an elbow on the stomach from Leon. "But you're equally as beautiful as shown in televisions," he added to take back his words earlier.

Kael just holds his laugh.

"I agree, I agree. The boss is lucky to have a beauty like you by his side," Ben agreed which made Kael blushed from all the flattering.

"Why don't you join us on the track?" Javier spoke for the first time.

Ben immediately agreed to the idea. "Yeah! Have you driven a race car before?"

But Leon absolutely disagreed. "No goddamn way! If something happens to our beloved in-law, uncle would kill me!"

However, it's all up to Kael anyway. "There's no way I'm refusing! Where am I changing?" Ben showed Kael in full anticipation, ignoring Leon's reservations. They loved a new recruit in their hobby anyway. Javier followed them.

"Well, what could happen? Worst case scenario, uncle will cut off your cards for a month."

"Your's too, Nicole Jude Acosta Smith. I'll tell uncle you are in on this too."

Cole glared at Leon but the two ended up letting out a deep sigh.

Zenon felt unreasonably frustrated since he left the house, or was it since the omega left with another alpha, or was it because he was enticed by Kaisen's smile and scent when he catched him on the stairs. Either way, it ticked him and he can't do anything right for the next three hours of working.

He checked the time on his wrist, called his assistant to postpone all his afternoon endeavors, and found himself driving to A-Park Racetrack. One of the prominent racetracks in New York known for its complex tracks often used for international race competitions.

He expected to see two people on the bleachers except his cousin, Leon, was the only person he saw. Leon was just standing there, unmoving, as if he had seen a ghost. His expression changed as soon as he noticed Zenon climbing up the stairs.

"Cousin! I knew you'd come!"

Zenon ignored his greetings and asked instead, "Where's he?"

"Oh," was the only word Leon spoke, then he pointed to the track with his mouth where four cars were racing with a tight distance between one another.

Zenon's brows furrowed as if it was a default reaction, "You put him there?"

"He put himself," Leon defended, his hands raised to show his innocence. "I said no, honest! Since I know he has trauma from riding cars but look at him go, he is as good as you."

Zenon focused his eyes on the track. A blue car was leading which he knows Javier's, followed by red owned by Cole, then the yellow one which is probably Ben, and lastly a black tesla roadster.

"I never went last," Zenon commented, feeling smug for himself.

Leon shook his head slowly, his index finger wigglin' in front of Zenon as he said, "Tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk. Your omega?... is one lap ahead."
