Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Matched

Matched

"If it weren't for my father, you would probably be groveling on the streets, so use that pretty head of yours properly. Do you think I like the fact that you're in my house? You are just here because my father insisted, so cut me some slack and just do what you're told."

"Do you think I wanted to be here?" Kael couldn't help but raise his voice as well.

Zenon let out a quick laugh as if he had heard something funny. "Aren't you? Isn't that the reason why you drove her to death? The reason why you signed something abominable in the first place while using your father's name as an alibi? Are you still thinking that I will fall for you just because we are in the same house? Well, fuck that! Even if you were the last omega, even if you may have enticed me with your lustful pheromones, I would never love you, Kaisen Ashworth."

Every word seeped through Kael's skin. Even if those words weren't really for him, he was hurt on behalf of his twin. Kael questioned himself whether his twin were a good or bad person. If he were really behind someone's death.

Wait what did he say about my pheromones? Kael immediately sniffed himself to check whether he involuntarily released his pheromones which he confirmed he didn't. It must be that one time when he…

Recalling the memory of what happened, Kael buried his flustered face on his hand as he screamed inside his mind. As the day goes on, it becomes more vivid that he could even remember the smell of his overpowering musky scent.

No! That shouldn't have happened!

Kael watched Zenon turn his back and walked inside the mansion. When he couldn't see the alpha, that's when he noticed that he was holding his breath the whole time. He sighed in relief when the pheromones that were pressing him were gone.

Should he leave now? The reason why he stayed this long when he can basically leave and return to Germany is because he was hoping that Kaisen would come back on his own accord. He was hoping that he could at least talk. Tairon was looking for his twin but looking for someone who doesn't wish to be found is hard. And Tairon had other precedents. Kael can't rely on Tairon to do everything.

Kael looked for Kaisen's phone as soon as he went to his room. He fetched it from the drawer beside the bed to check for any messages from his twin but Kael was bombarded with threats from different unregistered numbers. He tried to call the last number Kaisen used but to no avail.

He turned the phone off.

That night Kael refused to have dinner, he cooped himself inside his room to do some research. Looking for Kaisen's interests online to find clues of his whereabouts. And yeah, avoid a certain someone.

A series of soft knocks echoed in the room and a cute voice from outside the door came after. "Mama."

Kael felt his heart quickened by the cuteness of that voice. He immediately closed his laptop to put it aside and walked towards the door. When he opened the door, Kael was greeted by Amir in his blue pajamas with cinnamoroll prints on it. In his arms is a cinnamoroll stuffed toy, almost as big as him. Behind Amir was a young lady.

The lady smiled at him. "Good evening, sir. I'm Ms. Sato, young Amir's nanny. The young sir is quite persistent. If it's alright, he wants to sleep in your room."

Kael's eyes sparkled by what the nanny said. He crouched down to level Amir. "Is that true, baby boy?" he asked with a huge smile on his face.

The boy smiled, nodding his head repeatedly. "Amir, mama, sleep."

Kael let them in. Ms. Sato informed him of Amir's bedtime stories, and also brought some storybooks in.

"Nana wa asa ni aeru yo," she said to Amir before she exited the room.

Kael didn't understand what it meant but Amir looked like he did, he waved the nanny goodbye as she was leaving. The child must've been tired of what had happened today seeing that he had drifted off to sleep at the start of the story.

Pulling the blanket up, Kael silently chuckled hearing Amir's cute snores while hugging the stuffy called Tamtam. Kael stared at the boy for a moment, his hand stroking Amir's black hair lightly. He looks angelic and peaceful. Ever since he had arrived in New York, he hasn't felt this tranquility.

When was the last time he felt this? Looking back, it was before his mom died. Kael could remember how he relentlessly asked his mother for a sibling not knowing that it was impossible at the time. It was because her mom was an omega, and if an omega had already bonded with an alpha, they can't remove the bond easily to find another alpha.

A bonded omega would involuntarily reject any alpha other than the one they had bonded with.

She wouldn't talk about it. As the days passed, she grew weak and finally departed. Kael was seven when he was left alone, devastated by his mother's passing. He blamed his father that he hadn't met yet. Nevertheless, Kael wasn't a person who would bear a grudge.

He accepted that things just happened whether they like it or not. When two people meet, they love each other at some point, but part ways because they simply aren't meant for each other. Kael just finds it unfair for omega like him. If they had already bonded with an alpha, being away from that alpha made them weak and they will eventually die from it but it's not the case for the alpha.

Kael adjusted the bedside lamp into a softer light before he drifted off himself to sleep.

The whole house was dimly lit, from the receiving area to every corner of the mansion. To the kitchen, where a tall masculine figure was standing by the kitchen counter, a glass of bourbon in his hand. His expression wasn't in his usual scowl, just calm yet in his deep thoughts.

He brought the glass to his mouth when his phone interrupted the deafening silence of the night with a shrilling noise. The contact registered was Fern, the family doctor and a friend. The man fetched his phone from the counter with his free hand, swiped the call to answer一putting it in loudspeaker一before putting it back down the countertop.

Subtle noises from a paper being flipped were heard before finally, Fern's voice echoed. "The result doesn't match."

Zenon didn't respond, he didn't even move a muscle.

After a long silence, he spoke again.

"You know this is illegal, right, Zao? If the chairman would find out一"

"If grandpa would find out, this fraud would have been shot dead while the real one would suffer more," Zenon cutted him off.

He knew from the moment they had sat within a closed space that he had suspicions of the omega, the day he was attacked by a sniper. Amongst all the alphas, there is no way anyone can deceive a dominant alpha who has a very keen smell. He knew the differences between the pheromones and after all the advances that Kaisen had done to him before, he had a very clear memory of his peachy scent.

In contrast, the omega that was in his home doesn't have that scent. This fraud omega smelled like flowers, those types who had just bloomed, totally different from what he remembered Kaisen smell. This one is more pleasing. His pheromones were captivating, alluring that he couldn't help but give in the second time he sniffed it that night when he brought him home from the club.

And that day. Zenon knew his nature was responding to this omega and this is bad. He can't let his nature be the best of him.

"Zao." Fern called out, trying to call out his attention. "Zao… Zenon… Wa na namao ning buang."

"Stop cursing me in your dialect," the alpha snapped, coldly.

"You're basically daydreaming. So, what now? What's the plan?"

Zenon took a sip from his glass. "Nothing unless I know what they're planning."

They must've been trying to fool the Acosta family. That ungrateful chap! Even after all that help he received just to bury his involvement with someone's death and even saved his father's company from bankruptcy.

How utterly unforgivable!

"I still can't believe Kaisen has a twin. It's never on the news." Fern uttered in amusement.

Zenon didn't speak a word yet how his brows knit together and his hand gripped the glass tighter says it all.

"I made the most of it, you know. I tested Kaisen's hair, the one you gave from his own suite and the other omega's blood. They matched. They're relatives. They're brothers, siblings."

"I get it, Fern! Whether they are or they are not is entirely irrelevant."

After that call, Zenon returned to his own bedroom to make another call. This time for his brother, Zaidan through face time. After a few rings, Zaidan flashed on the screen, half of his face, only his hair, eyes, and nose bridge were seen, and everything else in the background was dark.

"Really, brother? In the middle of the night? Don't you have a life of your own?" Zaidan asked in a playful manner.

"Well, you're welcome. I got your package named Amir," Zenon retaliated with full sarcasm.

Zenon saw how Zaidan's eyes changed his emotion in that short quick stare. "Yeah, I was notified." Zaidan looked away.

His brother's mannerism draws creases on Zenon's forehead. Something's up and he's not saying anything. "You and your wife are safe, right?" That came out of nowhere. Well, not entirely. Their family had history, getting shot even became part of their lives.

That was one reason Zaidan left home that even the chairman was left with no choice but to let him go. They've been living peacefully in Japan with his Japanese wife, what's the change?

Zenon watched as Zaidan squeezed his face into his phone. "Aww, ma wittle bwatha is wowwied?"

His worry transformed into annoyance quickly, "Stop." His voice was firm but his older brother was the best at teasing his younger brother. Zenon ended the call before he lost his temper and smashed the phone to bits.
