Chapter 410 - Chapter 408 : Mission??

"Kurenai, you brought your disciples along to take the mission too?"

As they reached the gate, Asuma Sarutobi arrived with Shikamaru and two others.

Asuma looked down at Kurenai Yūhi with a faint smile, but when his gaze shifted to Genya and Hinata, a hint of disdain flashed in his eyes.

To Asuma, Kurenai seemed a bit confused. Although she chose disciples from powerful clans, their abilities were nothing special.

Hinata Hyuga was timid by nature. Though she was the daughter of Hiashi Hyuga, she wasn't necessarily the future head of the Hyuga clan.

Genya Uchiha was even more useless. Despite being the son of Kinya Uchiha, he was average at best and hadn't even awakened the Sharingan yet.

If Genya truly took charge of the Uchiha clan in the future, the clan would likely decline.

Though Asuma thought this way, he forgot one key fact: Kinya Uchiha himself was an ordinary man. How had he led the Uchiha clan to prosperity?

His long tenure in a high position had made Asuma overlook important details—something he rarely paid attention to even in the past.

As for Shino Aburame, this quiet, almost invisible young man, his situation was special. He could control insects in battle, but even that was just average.

The insects had growth limits and needed to consume their host's chakra, meaning the his future was limited.

Yet Kurenai had chosen these three.

It was honestly quite laughable.

"Let's take the mission," Kurenai nodded without engaging further with Asuma and walked inside.

Asuma's warm approach was once again met with coldness. His face darkened.

Kurenai had repeatedly shown him no respect, which meant she still didn't understand the Sarutobi clan's influence in Konoha.

Back then, Hiruzen Sarutobi had deliberately suppressed the Uchiha clan, ensuring they received no missions, until Uchiha ninjas had to join the Merchant Association.

So, he could also suppress Kurenai.

He hoped Kurenai would face reality soon and come to him for help.

With the thought in his mind, he entered the mission hall along with Shikamaru, Choji and Ino.

The Konoha mission hall was much like any ordinary mission hall.

Inside, two people were stationed to receive ninja coming for regular missions and assign their mission objectives.

Around them, Chunin and Genin came one after another to pick up normal missions.

Most were D-rank or C-rank.

The hardest missions usually involved escorting goods or accompanying someone to another place.

For higher-level missions, those were assigned only by the Hokage or the higher-ups of Konoha.

As Asuma Sarutobi walked in, the receptionists immediately noticed him and quickly stood up.

"Brother Asuma... you're here?"

Both of them spoke at the same time, their eyes showing respect as they looked at Asuma Sarutobi.

Both belonged to the Sarutobi clan, so when they saw Asuma, they stood to greet him.

Within the Sarutobi clan, no one could deny the contributions Hiruzen Sarutobi made for the clan. Without Hiruzen, the Sarutobi clan would probably be nothing.

"Have a seat. I'm here to bring my students to pick up missions. Do you have any tasks suitable for my disciples?" Asuma asked them with a smile.

"Alright, I'll find a suitable mission for you right away!" They nodded and began searching.

Asuma's faces showed pride — his self-esteem was greatly satisfied. He glanced sideways at Kurenai, hoping to see her admiring look.

But Kurenai seemed not to notice him at all and quietly waited behind.

"We found a C-rank mission: guard a family's courtyard for three days. Reward is 3000 ryo!" One of them carefully handed the mission details to Asuma.

"Not bad..." Asuma took the mission paper and nodded in approval.

It seemed the family owning the courtyard would be away for a few days, and they wanted someone to guard it.

This was an especially simple mission, and since it was within Konoha, there was almost no danger involved.

Maybe the person who posted this mission was just afraid someone would break into their house during the next few days.

This mission was almost like a free experience task.

Shikamaru, Choji and Ino nodded with satisfaction, especially Shikamaru. This mission was perfect — it would give him a good chance to rest without working too hard.

"Kurenai, do you want me to have someone find an easier mission for you?" Asuma Sarutobi spoke after accepting the mission.

"No need. They need to train. They can take any mission!" Kurenai shook her head seriously. "They don't need special treatment. Special treatment will only hurt them. Even when they carry out missions in the future, they'll need to do it on their own."

At this, Asuma's eye twitched slightly. Was Kurenai mocking him for relying on privileges?

Ridiculous.

He didn't say a word after coming here. The mission assignments were given to him by the people in charge.

If that's the case, then he wouldn't be polite about it.

"Kurenai, are you sure you don't want my help?"

Asuma looked at Kurenai and asked again.

"No, I don't."

"Alright then, let them assign the missions to you," Asuma said through clenched teeth, speaking slowly and clearly.

Then, Asuma's gaze turned toward the two people in charge of assigning missions.

They nodded knowingly. One of them looked at Kurenai and asked, "Are you here to accept beginner missions too?"

"Yes. Find something suitable for them," Kurenai nodded, signaling that they could assign the missions.

The two pretended to search for a while before pulling out one mission.

"There's a household outside the Hidden Leaf Village suspected of being attacked by wild beasts. They've lost more than a dozen pigs. You need to find them and deal with the trouble. The reward is 500 ryo."

"Five hundred ryo? And looking after a courtyard is three thousand ryo?"

Upon hearing the mission reward, Shino Aburame frowned and spoke.

The pig is lost, and no one knows where it ran off to. Maybe some wild beast already ate it!

But a mission like this only pays five hundred ryo?

And it's an outside-the-village mission, with no guarantee the pig can even be found!

If they fail to find it, the mission counts as a failure.

"The employers who post missions come in two types: rich and poor. Naturally, the rich ones pay higher commissions, and the poor ones pay less. But even missions from poor employers need ninjas to complete them!"

The person in the mission hall listened to Shino's complaints and continued, "That's why most missions aren't publicly posted and are assigned by us directly. It's to prevent you from only taking easy and profitable jobs!"

"By the way, didn't your teacher just say things need to be fair? Now you don't want to accept this mission?"

The other person nearby also spoke.

These two were clearly targeting Genya's small team!

At this moment, Hinata took the mission paper, glanced at the date, and said, "Come on, you can't treat people like this. This mission is from seven days ago—how can we possibly find those escaped pigs now?"
