Vergil, Qliphoth, Sylphie, and Soulyphoth were suspended before the roots of the Great World Tree of Souls.
Unlike the manifestation Vergil had encountered earlier, this was Soulyphoth's true structure. Her white, translucent trunk stretched across an entire region of Samsara, extending over a distance he couldn't even calculate. Thousands of roots spread through space, connected to the spiritual currents responsible for transporting souls through the reincarnation cycle.
However, a considerable portion of them had been destroyed.
Some roots had been completely torn away, leaving enormous cavities from which spiritual energy escaped. Others were covered in a black substance that moved slowly, enveloping the white surface and consuming everything it touched.
Vergil watched one of the roots disappear into that mass.
