Chapter 47 - Chapter Forty-Six: The Blueprint Meets the Pawn (전략과 희생양)

Lee Ji-seo POV (Point Of View)

I walked into our room, quietly watching Arin's actions. Arin turned to us with a frown on her face, "I wonder what I did in my past life for me to end up in this situation with you two."

"You didn't have to do anything in your past life. What you've done in this current life is enough," Ha-ri stated, before placing her bag on her bed.

I chuckled at her words, which earned a glare from Arin. "What are you laughing at?!" She asked, her face filled with anger.

"Isn't it obvious?" I asked with a raised brow. My vision moved to Chaeyoung, who was watching us in silence.

Arin noticed me staring at Chaeyoung and scoffed. "Why are you looking at her?" I turned to her, "Is it your eyes that I'm using to stare at her? How is it affecting you?"

She dropped her phone on her bed in anger and walked to me, then stared straight into my eyes, "I'll ruin your life, Ji-seo. Don't mess with me," she threatened.

I scoffed, "Not if I ruin yours first," I shot back. Arin tilted her head, "And how are you going to do that?"

I got closer to her face, "Just keep fucking up and you'll find out soon. I don't like to be messed with. Don't take my silence for weakness," I said firmly.

A knock was heard, and Ms Choi walked in, "What's going on?" She asked. I moved away from Arin and turned to her with a smile, "Nothing. Arin said she had something in her eyes, and I was checking it out for her."

"Oh, okay. The guys are setting things up for dinner, and I came to inform you guys to come outside," she said, placing a hand on her hip.

"Okay, we will be out shortly," Ha-ri said with a smile. Ms Choi nodded her head and walked out of the room.

"Come on, Ji-seo. Let's head out," Ha-ri said, pulling my hand. I nodded but quickly sent a warning look to Arin before walking out with Ha-ri.

"Why did you threaten her like that?" Ha-ri whispered harshly to me. "Because she is really getting annoying. She is really taking my silence as some kind of weakness," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Okay, but how are you going to 'ruin' her? I mean, she can do that, but you? I don't think that's possible," she shook her head.

"It's actually easy. All I have to do is play my cards right and let her ruin herself. It might seem hard, but it looks like she is already ruining herself. She's like a blown-out candle. She still has this smoke coming out of her, and all I need to set her off is just taking a lit match to that smoke without getting close to the thread, and she will relight again. You understand what I'm saying, right?" I turned to Ha-ri with delight.

She stared at me in confusion, "Sadly, no. What do you mean?" I slapped my forehead, "You need to pay more attention in science class. Have you seen that experiment of relighting a candle without the lit match touching the thread?" I asked.

She shook her head, "No, I haven't." I paused my movements and turned to her in disbelief. "Really? Hold on, let me show you," I said before tapping my sides for my phone, but I couldn't feel it.

"I think I left my phone in our room. Hold on, I'll go get it," I said to Ha-ri, but as I was about to leave, I heard Mr. Song call out my name, "Hey, Ji-seo." I turned to him with a smile, "Yes, Mr. Song?"

"Can you bring that over here?" He yelled, pointing to the cooler next to me, "Oh, and Ha-ri, can you help her out with it? Thank you," he said before focusing on the meat he was grilling.

Ha-ri groaned, "Why can't he let the guys do it?" I sighed, "They are setting up the chairs and other stuff. Let's quickly do it," I said before bending down to grab one of the coolers' handles.

Ha-ri sighed before joining me. "This is so annoying," she grumbled. I chuckled at her, "Now you sound like those bratty rich kids." She sent me a glare, "Hey, I'm not like them!"

"Okay, okay. If you say so," I teased.

Jeon Arin POV (Point Of View)

"Should we get going, Arin?" I heard Chaeyoung say after Ji-seo and Ha-ri left the room. "You go first. Keep a seat for me," I said before lying on the bed.

She nodded and was about to leave, but she stopped and turned to me, "Don't get angry at Ji-seo, please. I know she didn't really mean that," she said nervously.

I scoffed and sat up, "Are you her mouthpiece?" I said before getting up and walking to Chaeyoung, "Tell me. Are you?"

She shook her head, keeping it low. I scoffed, "Get out of my sight." Chaeyoung nodded and was about to leave when I pulled her back, "Why don't you get it?! I don't like sharing! Why are you acting like she's your friend?! You're mine, okay?! Don't you get it?!" I yelled.

Chaeyoung looked like she was about to cry, and I let her go, "Get out of my sight." She nodded, "I'm sorry," she said before walking out of the room.

"I honestly don't know what's difficult in listening to me. I specifically told her that I don't like it when I have to share something with someone," I said, before walking to my bed, but stopped in my tracks when I heard a ringtone.

It didn't sound like my ringtone. I listened to the sound and it led me to Ji-seo's bed. Her phone rang with a call. The display name was 'Toby' with a heart next to the name.

"Who's this?" I asked myself in confusion. The call stopped, and I stared at it for a bit. The call came in again from the same person, and again, and again. Then a message appeared on her phone from the same person: "Please pick up the phone, Dara."

"Dara? Who's that? Is that Ji-seo?" I asked myself. Another call came in, and I picked it up, annoyed.

"Hello? Ji-seo. Why weren't you picking up my calls or responding to my messages?" I heard a male voice say at the other end of the call.

"Uhm, hello?" I spoke softly. "Oh, sorry. Am I speaking with Ji-seo?" The guy said. "Oh, no. I'm Arin. One of her classmates and a friend of hers," I said, dragging out the word 'friend' in disgust.

"Oh, please, can you give Ji-seo her phone. I have been trying to reach her for the past few weeks, but she's not replying to my messages or answering my calls." "We are currently on a field trip for school, and she's busy, but when she's done, I'll let her know that you called. But to be honest, I think she's angry at you," I said.

"Why do you think that?" He asked. "That's what she told me, but she didn't tell me why she is angry with you," I said with a sigh, "And she has been feeling down recently..." I added.

"Oh..." He said in a low tone. "I should probably cut the call, if she finds out I spoke to you, she'll be mad at me," I said, and was about to cut the call when he yelled 'Wait'.

"Can I get your number? So if you found any reason why she is angry, you can just tell me," he said.

I smiled devilishly before replying, "Sure," I said before giving him my number. "But when you hang up, can you call her a few times so she wouldn't suspect that I answered the call instead of her?" I said to him.

"Sure. Thank you, Arin," he said, then hung up. I placed her phone back on the spot I picked it up from and went back to sit on my bed, and just like I said, he called her phone a couple of times.

Ji-seo walked into the room and glanced at her ringing phone. I stood up from my bed in anger, "Do you know how annoying your ringtone is?! Your phone has been ringing since, and the sound hurts my ears so much!" I whined.

She looked at me, then rolled her eyes before picking up her phone from the bed and staring at the Caller ID in silence. I stared at her, "If you're not going to pick up the call, then at least hang up!" I yelled.

The ringing stopped, and she unlocked her phone and was probably shocked by the number of times he called, "I can't believe he called 15 times," she said. Her face looked sad, and that made me raise my eyebrow in confusion.

She turned to me, "I'm sorry if it disturbed you," she apologised before walking out of the room.

I folded my arms and tilted my head in deep thought, "Is this Toby guy her boyfriend? I mean, that explains the heart emoji next to his name, right?"

My phone buzzed with a notification, and I unlocked it to see it was a message from an unknown number.

Unknown Number:

Hey, it's Toby.

Me:

Oh, hi.

Toby:

So did you tell her?

Me:

I was about to, but you were still calling her, and she walked in and just stared at her phone without picking up the call.

Toby:

That means I must have messed up somehow.

Me:

Yeah, and as her boyfriend, you must make it up to her.

Toby:

What? I'm not her boyfriend.

I stared at the message in shock, "Wait... So what relationship does he have with her?" I asked myself.

Me:

Oh, so why are you so concerned if you aren't her boyfriend? Are you a family member?

Toby:

Lol. I'm her best friend.

My eyebrow raised in astonishment, and my lips slowly curled up into a smile. "Oh, so that means Ji-seo somewhat has a crush on him," I said, finally connecting the dots. "I think I have found another Pawn for me to use in this game. She dares to threaten me? I'll show her," I said, still smiling at the text message.
