If the journey here to the edge of infinity was an endless spiral staircase, the trip down to Earth is a bungee jump where you get pushed off a Manhattan skyscraper.
Falling. I'm falling, Daji's hand in mine and baby Della Velcroed to us. All around, the cries of people who are also falling back down to Earth. An impossible descent.
It takes me several seconds to realize that the stairway has become an infinitely high slide that we rocket down. It is a super slide, and I feel the rush of something like water. Refreshing and strange, because we're in space, traveling back down to Earth.
"Hold on, everyone," I shout. "We're on the Infinity Slide. Don't be afraid."
"WHEEEE," several people chorus.
Faster, faster, faster, zipping around curves at a dizzying rate. We might break the sound barrier, we're going so fast. The djinn and any flying gods and monsters have a natural advantage here.
