Chapter 190 - 190 - Dire choice

*

That night, an Event was triggered by Yggdrasil. She wasn't a magical girl, if pushed to say, she was a monster. Less organic, and more spiritual, like a phantom from the past. A Trace.

The moment she vanished from the classroom, she was whisked away to another distant place. Before the massless tree of the abyss formed in the centre of residential zone 2A.

An unfamiliar scent greeted her before her eyes could even open, warm gale caresses her cheeks and sets her hair a flutter. Damp moistness coats her eyes, watering an iris dew glossy. Her lashes dance in the hopeless air void of neutrality and reality. A lack of reality... You could call this a dream, an event inside a dream. A dream inside another's dream.

"... To what do I owe this honour?" (Yggdrasil)

Her icy tone layed waste to formality despite keeping the vocabulary amicable. Words roll off the tongue, magic spikes. Just by being present, the person in front of her threatens Yggdrasil's existence, when someone else points a knife at your throat you would be less than amicable too. Trapping her inside a dream... Nevermind finding a way out, how would she survive the first attack? It's just like... Being trapped in an Oblivion Magia.

"... It seems you know who I am. You understand what you're doing... By breaking my rules, yes?" (Eterna)

The transparent silhouette in front of her shifted. She could vaguely see the shape of a woman in ancient wear, sat leisurely in front of her in an elegant outdoor chair. The plains stretched as far as the eye could see under the cooling morning sun. It wasn't morning outside, but it was here. Grass blades sway within the endless fields, their motion nearly imperceptible as one blended into millions.

Though seeing as the Heavenly Kings were left untouched, Yggdrasil no longer saw reason to worry. At most, she would be suppressed and weakened. She would have to resist with all of her being, against the earth's atmosphere. Against gravity, air, heat, laws of the universe. However... These laws no longer applied on the heavenly kings once they resisted with their own strength, it all comes down to a gamble in the end. Will she make it out of this? Fighting a god, however much weakened?

"Your rules have failed. Your duty of protecting has been neglected countless times.

Rather, you couldn't do anything. You've been sealed." (Yggdrasil)

She says it outright. She knows. The patron deity of humanity has been sealed. She's not all powerful. She scavenges for what little strength she has left. She's a shadow of her former glory.

" And you think you would do a better job?" (Eterna)

She was peeved. Her silhouette wavered in the air, blurring the scenery behind her intensely. She saw through it all, how powerless a god must be to lose their composure.

"... I don't think I would. I have to." (Yggdrasil)

"... You would commit blasphemy... With uncertainty in the outcome?" (Eterna)

"Your garden no longer has a choice. The old rules are unable to fight with their eyes blinded. The enemy has engaged in an arms war for at least the past 11000+ years, while you stagnated.

Your divinity has not eroded, it has only been proven fallible. It let a child die, so an external entity like me could intervene. One neither human nor Trace. " (Yggdrasil)

A new species, one yet unrecorded in the present era. A small drop that will cause ripples to spread across the still lake. A fresh possibility that has surpassed many obstacles to get here.

" You will lose your shape..." (Eterna)

"It matters not." (Yggdrasil)

"You might not return." (Eterna)

"I accepted that when I started to fight." (Yggdrasil)

"You envy for too much, reality will not be able to satiate you." (Eterna)

"Isn't that... The same for everyone?" (Yggdrasil)

"..." (Eterna)

Stark silence fills the space. She had no voice, yet her intentions were conveyed perfectly to Yggdrasil, forming words inside of her head with her own voice. Even these thoughts were now empty, frozen in contemplation.

"I can't let you do something so reckless, even if it's for my sake... The rules are there to protect you, breaking them will leave the earth vulnerable." (Eterna)

"... Then I will subsume them. I will take your role as the rule enforcer. You can keep watching in your dream palace. After all, you can't wake up anymore, can you?

The rules will stay intact if you simply pass on the ownership." (Yggdrasil)

" Are you mad? It takes a god to enforce the commandments. Your existence will run out and you will die. " (Eterna)

"... It won't. I'm not asking you for permission. You roped me into here, so I'm just graciously telling you my next step. Whatever your will, it has lost the right to change the course of destiny. " (Yggdrasil)

Because it's in my hands, now.

"... My providence will not be threatened. Contact was made with you on good faith.

If you're so determined, suit yourself. I hope you help those children before you collapse." (Eterna)

Her vision blacks out, like a television screen getting shut down. A sound of fizzing whisks into her ears before disappearing as fast as it occurred. Then... Colour never returns. She remains perpetually blind, but a phantom outline of reality unfold in the void. Her magic was spreading rapidly to cover the air, a second was all it took for her to envelop the entirety of residential zone 2A.

However, she can't move. She's rooted in place, just like that time... She can't see the tree, but she knows it's there. The massless, formless existence doesn't make an appearance in her magical perception, mapping out the universe with the exception of herself. She knows the tree exists, because she can feel her own existence in an abstract manner, she just couldn't observe it. She blinks, and her perspective opens a new at a distant location. She feels much more than just the immediate world around her.

All of phenomena creeps into her mind, getting processed automatically. There wasn't even any strain, without a physical brain there was no more feeling. Her computing power proliferates endlessly in accordance to the territory she subsumes, gradually, her existence sifts through the whole earth.

Over here. I've found you.
