Three weeks postpartum and I was back on the training field with my daughter strapped to my chest before the sun fully committed to being up.
Eli gave me permission only because Lily was peaceful and I was running on four hours of sleep, so we were all thriving.
Alan was already out there, obviously, because Alan is the person who sets up drills at five in the morning for fun and I have fully accepted this about him.
The shield came up so fast I actually checked myself.
"Okay, that was way impressive," I smiled, and Alan hit me with the second one before I could finish the thought, and the shield caught that too, and I ran through six full rounds before I even felt tired, and I had to stop because something was clearly happening and I needed somebody to explain it to me.
"What is going on right now? My shield has never worked this fast in my life."
He glanced down at Lily on my chest. "She's the brains behind it."
