Caleb came in while I was burping Lily over my shoulder, and one glance at his face had my chest tightening before he even opened his mouth.
“Kaden, we have a scout report from the eastern forest.”
Kaden set his cup down and came over at once. “What happened?”
“Our guy circled the abandoned mill three times before he got close enough for scent,” Caleb replied. “He found a grey wolf camped near the water line, and he was moving slow enough to draw attention.”
Lily gave a tiny grumble against my shoulder, and I kept rubbing her back while Caleb pulled a folded sheet from his hand.
Kaden reached for it first. His eyes ran over the page, his jaw locked, and then he said the one name I had zero patience for before breakfast.
“Blake.”
My fingers froze on Lily’s back.
Kaden raised his head, and his gaze came to me right away.
I held out my free hand. “Give me the report.”
