Chapter 12 - Shadows of Avalon II

Minami Ayosaki

Avalon Academy, Coastal Federation of Avalon; 17 Quirasara 80R7X

It has been a total of two months since Her Majesty and I enrolled as students at Avalon Academy, and since then, I've had the privilege to expand my worldview. It's not like my mind wasn't already open, but the time I've spent on campus so far has been a much-needed change of pace.

I'd especially taken a liking to the different classes that the school has to offer. Although I am Her Majesty's Right Hand, I unfortunately cannot be by her side at all times while we're here; I find it rather bothersome. However, my instructors and their lessons make up for it, especially my Mana Conservation professor, Dr. Brightmere.

"We are all aware of a mage's Cache, and how it functions," the professor began, "as well as it being a key and vital aspect of our very existence. However, most mages don't quite understand how to properly use their Cache, which is where today's lesson begins us, Cache Control." Dr. Brightmere, an elderly Dragonman, upon first glance, you'd think he were frail, however as a former monk, he could easily make light work of any second-grade warrior.

"But Dr. Brightmere, what do you mean," asked one of my classmates; if my memory served correct, I believe her name was Ariyemi. "I've only ever used my Cache to store mana, what else could you possibly do with it—?"

It was fast, so fast even, the professor's after-image was still sitting in a meditative position; Dr. Brightmere somehow managed to seal the mana surrounding him and unleashed it with malintent. "This is one of the many techniques it is called, Fi kagā," Dr. Brightmere explained, "it means 'concealed magic' and it is the foundation of Cache Control. And once you have an understanding of concealment, only then will you be able to recognize the well of mana we all call a Cache."

"How does one pull off this Fi kagā," I raised my hand, curiosity causing my voice to crack, "it seems to be a hassle, unless you were someone like Her Majesty or the Deputy Commander."

"You are closer to them than you think," Dr. Brightmere replied, "right now that is. If they continue on their path they will be unbelievably powerful; however, they require subordinates that can pick up where they lack. The Vice President will need her Right-Hand to be able to handle any if not all her opponents."

With those words said, I understood fully what he was trying to say, I must prove my strength to Her Majesty, the phrase repeated in my mind. With steel infused in my heart and an unwavering resolve, I immediately poured all my focus into bolstering my power.

The training itself wasn't as hard as I had expected, it consisted of meditation until the Cache could be visualized by the mage. Once visualized, the mage would be able to manipulate the output of residual mana that causes a mage's Presence. It was this that we were tasked to conceal; for months I spent meditating and it felt as though I wasn't comprehending the lesson, but after weeks of meditation, I was starting to visualize what I felt like my Cache.

"I think I saw it," I exclaimed, "but it vanished as quickly as it appeared."

"It is the first step into acknowledging your Cache," Dr. Brightmere lectured, "the more time you spend meditating and learning the shape of your soul, your signature, and eventually your Cache. Once you've achieved that, you'll find it is rather instinctive to suppress your presence." Acknowledging one's own Cache was a task that proved itself to be rather difficult than I initially believed; however I yearn to an aid Her Majesty can depend upon, and this is simply the next stage in my growth.

The task proved itself to be arduous, however the more time I spent honing my meditation skills, the easier it was for me to visualize my Cache. In total, I'd say it took me around five months of training and meditation before I could achieve this new benchmark of my strength. With this newfound discipline, I know have the ability to conceal my presence and excess mana to become near invisible to the senses, as well as the ability to gauge the threat level of others, a skill that would be quite useful in combat.

"Ms. Minami, can I have a moment of your time," asked Dr. Brightmere, to which I obliged, "the Academy has an event every decade called 'The Grand Magic Chevalier,' the next one is coming up in about a year and a half, and I would highly recommend that you register as a contestant."

"The Magic Chevalier," I pondered, "it sounds enticing, indeed; however, I'd be a fool to participate in this year's contest." I looked down at my feet as the gentle breeze brushed my cheeks, "as Right-Hand of Crown Princess Minerva Cosmina Wyllt-Miryūshi, I must allow Her Majesty to fulfill her wishes and permit her and her brother, the Deputy Commander, to participate in the Chevalier." I did harbor some bitterness in the situation. Her Majesty said that she, along with Myrlin were competing, accompanied by Autumn, Ogunosuke, and Renata.

The team is fairly balanced, a good blend of long ranged and melee fighters, however, I hadn't seen Myrlin in battle. And when I thought about it further, I realized I didn't even know what his signature was. It should've been meee!! I whined internally, I've seen Her Majesty's power in action, however, to see the Deputy Commander's skill would be a glorious sight!

"Ah yes," Dr. Brightmere smiled, "The Vice President and Deputy Commander are quite strong, but wouldn't it make sense for you to also take part?"

"Yes, one would think that" I began, "however, I am told that Lady Autumn is related to the Zero Seats of both The Academy Police and The Jury. It would be rather cruel of me to deny her the chance to show her siblings her growth." I grew fond of Her Majesty's friends, almost to the point of which I'd consider them my own. I don't want to always come across as heartless, and being nice does make me feel warm inside.

"That is quite admirable of you," Dr. Brightmere sighed with contentment, "if that is what you wish; just do promise me that you will at least consider participating in future Chevaliers."

I faced my professor; he was a bald man with a silver beard and his face was aged with wrinkles. Despite that, his eyes were youthful, they were a sharp blue that faded to a piercing green; he wasn't the largest dragonman, but with those eyes of his, he was definitely one of the more intimidating.

Along with my studies, as an officer of the Disciplinary Committee, I am tasked to patrol the campus of Avalon, as well as the City of Avalon. Initially, I was under the impression that the City of Avalon was just that, a city; however, it didn't take long for me to realize that the entire country referred to as The Coastal Federation of Avalon is the entire city itself, spanning a staggering 8.5 million square kilometers.

I was grateful enough to have Ololadeseijin Akinyemi to be my Patrol Partner; I'd taken a liking to her and her fighting style. Since she and I were a part of Tesseract, the partnership felt similar to a mentor and mentee dynamic.

"Captain Minami," Akinyemi saluted as approached her, "I am ready to begin our patrol of the city."

"At ease, Akinyemi," I coaxed, "besides, you can't keep going around and calling me Captain while we're on campus. Students will start to get the wrong idea, and the last thing I want to do is to cause a ruckus on campus!"

"My apologies, Captain-, I mean, Third Seat, Minami," Akinyemi stood at attention, "although you ask that I do not address you as Captain, you still out-rank me. If it is okay with you, I'd wish to refer to you as Third Seat, Minami."

I rolled my eyes and sighed, "Fine, I can't stop you from calling me that but just try not to call me Captain; while we're here, Master Ogunosuke is Captain, Her Majesty's adoptive brother, Iniko is Vice Captain, and I am merely Third Seat."

"Yes, that may be the case," Akinyemi retorted, "however, being the Third Seat in the Disciplinary Committee is nothing to take lightly. You hold the title of Committee Representative and you're the strongest officer outside of seats zero through two. If you asked me, I'd say you're selling yourself short."

It was something that was stuck in mind while we continued our patrol of the city. I'd always considered myself a capable and competent warrior, but I never saw myself as someone who was still deserving the level of respect Akinyemi had displayed.

While on patrol, Akinyemi and I encountered a jewelry heist, this is rather interesting, I thought; by the time we had made it to the jewelry shop, the thief had already gotten away.

"What are your thoughts, Third Seat Minami?" Akinyemi asked as she examined the broken glass, "should we report this to the Captain or the Deputy Commander?"

As I stood in the middle of the crime scene, I scanned my surroundings, this would be an excellent time to utilize my new Cache Control abilities. I closed my eyes and took a deep inhale in order to conceal my presence. The act of concealing one's cache allows for the user to heighten and enhance their senses, and with those enhanced senses, I am able to see even the faintest traces of mana. There were footsteps emitting mana that led down the alley next to the shop.

"Akinyemi," I said as I released my concentration, "we needn't worry the Captain or the Deputy Commander about this endeavor." As we followed the footsteps, I was growing rather suspicious of our surroundings; although I knew we were still in Avalon, the area we had found ourselves in felt like another world entirely.

"This must be Avalon's Slum District," Akinyemi acknowledged, "I've heard little things about this place, but one thing I do know is that it's an area that doesn't stay in one place and is not recorded on any of the official maps."

"A slum district," I repeated, "who knew Avalon had such a dark underbelly? C'mon, I can still sense the thief's presence." I led my partner down the desolate streets of the slums; the air was stale and had a musk of disease. There were residents, however, the sight of two academy students, Disciplinary officers at that, seemed to have upset them. Every one of them closed their doors and refused to speak to us.

"This is getting us nowhere," whined Akinyemi, "we've been walking around in circles for who knows how long."

"Shhh," I snapped as we approached a run-down building, "we're here; this is where the footprints end. If I had to guess, one of the resident gangs here must have planned this little jewel heist, thinking they weren't going to be found; hiding under the anonymity of the Slums."

"So, does that mean we get to have some fun?" Akinyemi asked with a blazing fire in her eyes, "I'm getting all fired up!"

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, using Cache Control, I directed my senses toward the building. I count, one, two, five… Twelve, there's twelve of them.

"Akinyemi, this may be tough," I began, "we're going up against twelve bandits, and you have to promise me that no matter what, if things go awry, you must go and inform the Captain and Deputy Commander." I needed to reassure her that this was extremely dangerous and that we had no business even going this far; however, I had something to prove. Call it childish, but I felt obligated to handle this on my own.

"Aye!" Akinyemi saluted, "you have my word, Co-Captain Minami!"

I smiled and looked toward the building, "alright, let's go."

The building lacked any iota of defenses, likely due to the obscurity of the Slums, so entering didn't pose an issue. Inside, however, there were three gang members standing outside a door in the hall on the second floor of the building. It's a good thing I got a grasp of Fi kagā, I thought, being able to keep tabs on my enemies with them being none the wiser!

"This would be the first time you and I share a battlefield like this, Akinyemi," I said as I began to scribe my name, "Hunger Signature: Synergist's Link, this is one of my sub-signatures, it's called Synergist's Link and allows me to give you boosts to your attack and defenses. I'm not a healer, but this is the best I can do for support; thankfully I can leave this active, so I can cast other spells."

"Thank you," Akinyemi saluted; with a deep inhale, she bolted up the stairs and made her way to the three guards. The battle began and I was impressed at Akinyemi's growth; she was taking on all three of the guards with ease. Even when the other gang members entered the fray, Akinyemi was still holding her own.

"Hunger Boost," I chanted, this ability allows for my target's attack to be temporarily increased due to the starvation feeling they experience. When someone is feeling the sensation of starvation, they become something more primitive and primal; this is the foundation of my Hunger Signature.

I drew my katana and jumped into battle, between Akinyemi and myself, we were both dealing with four to five gang members a piece. The clashing of steel filled the abandoned building like an orchestra; however, I felt as though something was off. I looked to Akinyemi, she was fending off five of the bandits, and I was occupied by another five. Didn't I initially count twelve, I questioned, "AKINYEMI—!"

"Neuro Signature: Optic Paralysis," a soft, yet heavy voice echoed, and in an instant, I felt every nerve in my body tense up and I was completely paralyzed. "It would appear the academy sent some of its dogs to come meddle in our plans," the voice was unfamiliar; however, I could tell that it was feminine and young.

The unfamiliar voice wore a hood, obscuring her face only revealing her sinister and devilish smile. That smile was the most terrifying image I'd seen, and the words it spoke rocked me to the core.

"Let's send them a message," the voice croaked, "one that will make sure they know not to interfere with the Will of Chaos…" My senses soon blacked out after I heard that, "The Will of Chaos," it was my first time hearing anything of the sort, and when we finally came to, Akinyemi and I had been in the campus hospital for two months.

She and I both suffered a grotesque form of torture; broken ribs, and collar bones, lacerations all throughout our bodies, and according to the doctor and nurses, we'd both been assaulted sexually, multiple times. I felt disgusting; violated in my own skin, and what made it all worse, I felt responsible for this. I'd told Akinyemi that she and I could handle this, and it was more than what we expected.

"Good, you're awake," a heavy voice rumbled the hospital room I was in, it was the Deputy Commander, "Third Seat, Minami Ayosaki, if you are able, I'd like to ask you a few questions about the incident that took place in the Slum District two months ago." I did my best to stand at attention; however, I was still sore from the attack. "You needn't worry yourself about that, I'm more concerned with your health, and any information that can help me find whoever did this to you and Akinyemi," the Deputy Commander's face was stoic but laced with anger.

I'd briefed Myrlin on the incident and advised him that I was under impression that it was a task Akinyemi and I could handle. He didn't seem upset at all, quite the contrary, the Deputy Commander thanked me for assessing the situation accordingly and for relaying my findings.

"There are rumors going around campus of a cult," the Deputy Commander acknowledged, "they're called The Hermetic Order of the Dragon Steadfast, and they're shrouded in mystery. We have to remain diligent if we want to snuff out these cultists."

This was my first time ever hearing of such a thing, "The Hermetic Order of the Dragon Steadfast? Are they related to the church?"

"Who knows," the Deputy Commander shrugged his shoulders, "the only information we have on them is the name, and the fact that they operate in the Slum District; aside from that, we have no leads."

"I see," I sat on the information, "is there any way we can investigate the Slums? Like how it's able to not stay in one place?"

"That may be a bit more than what we can chew," the Deputy Commander chuckled, "we were lucky to even find you two outside the city's limits. It wasn't until now that we even knew the district could vanish, let alone its existence all together."

BANG—! BANG—!

"AYOSAKI!!" the door to my room flew open, revealing Her Majesty, along with both the Student Council and the Disciplinary Committee; the princess leaped in my bed and immediately took me into her embrace, "don't you ever do anything that reckless again!! Do you understand me, have I made myself clear?! That's an order! I never want to have to be worried like that again!! Tell me you understand me, please, tell me you'll quit the Disciplinary Committee!!" Tears streaked Her Majesty's face as she hugged me; it was quite the sight.

"Your Majesty," I struggled for air, "I understand fully, however, I do have a job to handle as an officer of the Disciplinary Committee, and I must remain an officer in order to prove to you that I am worthy to be your Right-Hand. I'll promise you that I will call for back up if I cannot handle a situation."

"What are you saying?" Her Majesty questioned, "you want to stay? What will you do if this happens again?!"

"Ayo is right," chimed the Deputy Commander, "she does have a great deal of responsibility, and as much as it pains me, I agree with her decision to stay on the committee. That being said, I'd like to start a continuous investigation on the Slum District and the Dragon Steadfast. Everyone in this room will need to keep this under the radar if we want to get the jump on them. Trust me, Nerva, I won't be as complacent to let this happen a second time."

The Deputy Commander's words were reassuring and were enough to calm Her Majesty's frustration; I spent around four months recovering from the attack. In that time, both Akinyemi and I attended mandatory physical therapy and rehabilitation to make sure we were able to resume work and attend classes.

My fellow classmates would visit me every week to bring me my assignments and lecture notes. It was an odd feeling, missing large chunks of class due to this traumatic incident. I was left feeling incomplete, un-whole, like I was robbed of something. I'd always imagined myself to be someone that was untouchable by her foes; however, what happened to me in the Slums, I'm not sure that I even fit to be a student anymore.

After our final week in the hospital, Akinyemi and I were discharged with a good bill of health; we spent a total of seven months being treated for our injuries. Upon our discharge, our fellow committee and council members threw us a welcome-back party in the manor.

The entire manor was decorated with ribbons and lanterns, and there was a massive spread of food in the center of the gazebo. The Leywin's and their staff had been pretty worried about us when they heard about the attack. As a gesture of kindness and admiration, they felt the need to make their home even more welcoming by throwing us this party.

"Please, eat and rest," Ruth hugged me as tears flowed down her face, "he might not look like it, but Paul used to be a Sidhean Knight; if you ever need him, I'll have him at the ready!"

"I'm sure he'll scare them off with that scruffy beard," laughed Iniko, "Master Leywin can easily be mistaken for an Ursadrake with all that body hair!"

The residents and the owners erupted in a thunderous laugh as the night continued. It was nice to everyone in good spirits, even though I have this dark cloud looming over me, I can see the silver-lining of this horrid tragedy.

Decade Block Two's Disciplinary Committee Building, Avalon Academy, Coastal Federation of Avalon; 19 Samadan 81R7X

I was scheduled to meet with the Deputy Commander of Decade Block Two; I didn't really think much of it, perhaps they want to ensure the safety of their underclassmen, I wondered.

The building The Headhunters meet is an older lecture hall that doubled as the unit's dormitory. The building had an aged look and smell to it, that vaguely reminded me of the Slum District. The atmosphere was suffocating, and I found it extremely hard to breathe, that was until I made my way to the Deputy Commander's office. Block Two's Deputy Commander had two officers standing guard outside their door, and upon my arrival, the two officers escorted me inside the office.

The office looked completely different compared to the outside of the building; it was decorated with an aristocratic touch, reminiscent of a noble's study. The middle of the office stood a wooden desk, and sitting at that desk was, who I could only assume was this block's Zero Seat, "Deputy Commander, Sable Novara, it is a pleasure to meet with you today," I saluted the Deputy Commander.

"At ease," the Zero Seat spoke as she lifted her hand, "I'm glad you could make it, did you find the building okay?"

I nodded in confirmation.

"Good," Deputy Commander Novara smiled, "we wouldn't want another incident to happen again, now would we?"

"Pardon?" I raised a brow.

"Oh nothing," the Deputy Commander clapped her hands together, "my summoning you here today is actually related to the little investigation Myrlin is conducting."

How did she find out about the investigation, my eyes began darting all around the room.

"Oh, don't worry about how I know about the investigation," Deputy Commander Novara smiled deviously, "after all, I wouldn't be much of a Zero Seat if I couldn't get my hands on such valuable information such as a secret investigation on Avalon's mysterious Slum District."

My heartbeat began to slow its pace, why am I getting so worked up about, it makes sense that she would know, like she said, she's a Zero Seat.

"What are you proposing, Deputy Commander?" I interrogated.

"Let's say, Decade Two wants in on this investigation," the Deputy Commander started, "our two blocks can join together to investigate the Slums and the Steadfast. You'd be able to cover more ground if we collaborated on this, don't you think?"

Her offer was sounding more and more compelling as the conversation went on, "how come you didn't present this to my Deputy Commander? I find it rather suspicious that you would invite me here and expect me to accept your offer on behalf of my entire unit." Nothing about this situation was making sense, not to mention the uneasy feeling I had before walking into this office. Something deep within me was telling me this whole ordeal was a trap.

"Good to be skeptical," quipped the Deputy Commander, "I have my reasons; for now, tell Myrlin that I wanted to speak with you privately, as were one of the victims. I hope my inviting you here and offering my assistance doesn't offend you, as doing so was not my intention."

Great, I thought, now I look like a drake's asshole. "No-no, my apologies, you must forgive me. I've had some troubles trusting others since the incident; I'll speak with the Deputy Commander about collaborating on the investigation."

"Wonderful!" Deputy Commander Novara clapped her hands together in delight, "I look forward to working with you, and I'm sure this investigation would find itself to be rather intriguing."

Upon leaving Block Two's Disciplinary Committee building, I felt that ominous and uneasy feeling again. It couldn't have been a coincidence at this point; there was something about this building that was familiar; the atmosphere around it felt as stale as the air in The Slums.

I did as Deputy Commander Novara said and relayed her proposal to Myrlin, who seemed taken aback, "how did she even find out about this?"

"I asked the same question," I replied, "she said that she wasn't a Zero Seat for no reason and that she has many ways of gathering information."

The Deputy Commander's face twisted in confusion; however, he started to calm down after I assured him that Deputy Commander Novara only wanted to help.

"I can't deny her logic," Deputy Commander huffed, "that doesn't mean I'm not suspicious by the timing of this offer. I'll go through with this, but I want you and Akinyemi to report anything weird you two sense or feel. The minute you do, I'll call off the investigation, and I'll handle things as I see fit." The Deputy Commander's voice was low, and cold, a stark contrast from the warmth his voice usually has. I've only ever experienced fury from Her Majesty; however, in this moment, I could see that that fury is an inherited trait, because The Deputy Commander, Her Majesty's elder brother's presence blazed in anger.

As the days and weeks passed by, both the Shangri-Guard and the Headhunters worked in tandem with each other for this "secret investigation." I still felt uneasy whenever we had to patrol with the upper classmen; the way their eyes ogled me, gave me a sense of uncleanliness, that no matter how hard I scrubbed, I could never get off.

The Deputy Commander offered to accompany me and Akinyemi during our patrols; however, we'd declined his offer. It does put me at ease that he was willing to protect me, I guess that's another inherited trait the two share, I thought.

Before I knew it, however, it was around the time for The Grand Magic Chevalier registration would begin; knowing this, I intended to pour all of my efforts into training Her Majesty and her teammates for a successful tournament.

The training regimen I had planned was designed with the Chevalier's events in mind: the first event is a Cavalier Race, where the team of five have to work as one to capture as many flags as possible, while keeping theirs safe. Then there is the Team Obstacle Race, this race is to test the contenders' ability to engage in combat while in motion by having them race and fight from Decade Block One's arena to Decade Block Eight's arena. This event was designed to weed out the much weaker contestants for the Chevalier's main event, The Versus Battles; one-on-one battles between the top four teams from the Team Obstacle Race.

I observed at least three hundred years' worth of Chevalier footage in order to create the perfect training course for Her Majesty and the others; I truly was proud of all my efforts.

"Are you sure this training course is safe?" Renata asked with a raised brow.

"Need I remind you that you survived my sea voyage training, Lady Renata," I snapped.

"You right," Renata chimed back with a chuckle.

"This will be the first time I got to train with you since you've became a princess," the Deputy Commander smiled to Her Majesty. "You gotta promise me not to go easy on me, Nerva!"

"You better not hold back MurMur!" Her Majesty stuck her fist out to her brother, who promptly pounded it.

I was finally able to see what The Deputy Commander was capable of, and not only that, but I was also in charge of facilitating his training. In a way, I felt like a proud instructor, one who knew her students were going to change the world.

"Woah! You've gotten a lot stronger, Auto," Renata exclaimed as she arose from Chairwoman Winters' attack.

Autumn deactivated her ability and stuck her hand out to the beast princess, "I can say the same thing about you, Nata; when did you learn to grab light?"

"Excuse me?" I interrupted, "what do you mean by 'she can grab light?'"

SMACK—!

"It's just as she said, Ayo," Her Majesty's palm strength seemed to have also been increased, because that one really hurt.

"What I mean is," I rubbed my head, "The Captain also has an affinity for light magic, and he wields light all the time."

Captain Ogunosuke approached us alongside the Deputy Commander, "yes, that may be the case; however, the light I wield is made of mana, whereas the light Princess Renata can wield—,"

"Light itself," interjected Renata, "it's very similar to Mini's signature actually, the spatial aspect at least. That's why she and I work so well together, we're like two halves of the same coin." I was beginning to see why Her Majesty has taken a liking to Renata, the potential she has is phenomenal.

"She's not the only one that you should be impressed with," chimed the Deputy Commander, "Auto's called the Aquarian Ice Guardian, and she can create pure ice!"

"Wait, you mean," I stumbled.

"A grossly simplified explanation of my signature, yes" Chairwoman Winters sighed, "I just wanted to give you all a teaser; Myrlin, you gotta promise me that we'll make it all the way to the Versus Battles. I have to show my sister, Franny, how much I've grown."

The rest of us directed our attention to the Deputy Commander, who was clearly just put on the spot, "hey! What are y'all looking at; alight, fine! I promise we'll make it to the top four!"

Nothing like some good old fashioned peer pressure to get the job done, I giggled.

Decade Block One's Arena, Avalon Academy, Coastal Federation of Avalon; 25 Levidarth 83R7X

Today is the day of the Grand Magic Chevalier and although the past year and a half of training would leave the average mage crippled due to the pressure; however, these five mages, are nothing to trifle with. I intended to meet with them before they left for the first event.

"Why do we have to wear our Phys Ed uniform?" Captain Ogunosuke whined, "all the other blocks get to wear state of the art equipment, and we have to wear these regular-ass uniforms!?"

"Chill, Ogun, chill," the Deputy Commander fanned the captain, "according to Madame Tepes, it's ANOTHER tradition; some bullshit about Decade Block One not having the budget, or whatever. If you ask me, that old bat just wants to see me suffer!"

"You talk as if you know her on a personal level," I questioned.

"Because I do," the Deputy Commander replied, "Madame Tepes isn't just my Supreme Commander and headmistress of the academy, she's also Lady Hypnos, The Demon Lord of Sleep, and my former teacher."

His former teacher, I pondered.

He'd further explain that he initially sought out the Supreme Commander's tutelage to gain knowledge on memories and the mind. However, the Deputy Commander progressed much faster than Madame Tepes perceived and in about a year or so, the Deputy Commander had mastered the "Mind Aspect". Due to that progression, the Supreme Commander offered Myrlin the Zero Seat position as well as enrollment at Avalon Academy.

"The position comes with a Universal Full-Ride Grant that can be used by anyone in my family or affiliated with me; the grant covers the entire eighty-year enrollment," explained the Deputy Commander. "That includes, room and board, tuition, books, equipment, everything! In exchange, for the next eighty-years, I'll be serving as one of Avalon Academy's Hell Hounds."

Is that what she meant when she called me and Akinyemi dogs, I thought to myself.

"We have to go," Her Majesty rushed the Deputy Commander toward the exit, "the event is getting ready to begin and I'd be damned if we're late!" As they made their exit, I ventured off to the stands to find Akinyemi, Antoinette, and Olufemi, who were waiting for me with an open seat. This would be my first time seeing a tournament of this caliber, my only wish is that the contestants don't disappoint me.
