CHAPTER 61 - EUPHORIA
The more I stared at the spells being launched towards me, the more exciting and beautiful it was.
Every spell had its own mana capacity and was essential to everyone's life. Of course that meant mine as well, but I had restrictions now that I knew why my affinities were locked up or unable to be used at will.
The world…
All the living and non-living things…
…Stayed still like I had [Static Void] but I knew it was different from that. Maybe it was just from my perspective or something else.
Whatever… I'm not trying to see if I have [Static Void] or not.
I had to experiment today, whether or not I was capable of using this theory of a spell.
I turned around without much care of the spell going back to their normal speed, or if they hit me.
There was no reason to question whether or not it was a spell that I had used or something. This beast will was different from others so I didn't know the skills and spell it came with.
Then there was that feeling again… Euphoria.
It was an intoxicating feeling that flowed around me and my surroundings. Like something I couldn't let go of.
Addicting? Perhaps. Would I let go of it? Probably not. Will I sacrifice everything that I have to feel this again? Absolutely.
Finally settling in the spell or skill, I began to look at every single mana spell released towards me. Continuing to find one with a bigger source of mana, that is what I needed to kick start this experiment.
A bright green rested between the ground, perhaps a layer away from breaking into the surface, looks interesting enough. I crouched down and opened a path for the vine to be visible. My hand gazed at it and I felt the true mana it was summoned with.
That is when I activated my will.
For some reason I was able to see the motes of different colors surrounding me, I took a quick look and then went back to the vine. Covered in millions if not trillions of green motes. Each one seemed to have a will of its own, moving and dancing like they were being saved. Nevertheless, there was something else aside from the green motes.
Interesting enough, it was colored differently than the rest of the elemental affinities. It was purple.
Strangely, it was like a container for the green motes. Covering every whole that could make the green motes leave.
"What affinity is this?"
I touched it with my finger, willing to find out the hard way if possible but nothing happened. Instead of exploding or anything horrible, like I had thought, it moved to my touch. A stream of wind elements flowed out like a water drain. They danced more intensely than before.
Was it because they were freed?
If so then what is containing it? For what reason?
What affinity or element is this purple thing?
More importantly, where the hell is the aether?
In the novel it was confirmed that Aether would be all over the world, so where the hell is it?
"To hell with that, I don't have time to search for Aether much less beg or give it an insight towards mana." I annoyingly said, heading towards the spells that were about to hit the spot I was before entering this zone spell.
"So all I have to do is move these purple motes and the spell runs out of mana?" I hesitantly said like there was someone else next to me.
I extended my arm to the fire spell released by one of the conjurers.
Touching a handful of motes with my hand until it left a hole where the fire element could leave. Instantly, the motes of red fired up and left into the atmosphere without hesitation. And so did the rest of the spells, leaving into the non-existence void to never reappear out of thin air.
My eyes just stared at my palm like it was an existence of a different sort. I didn't understand this power at all and for its usage of mana, perhaps not using it regularly might be the play here. Aside from the fact that I wanted this chance to use it, I am kinda disappointed.
I thought perhaps it was something entirely different from anything else and it is but this is unique, something new that wasn't introduced in the novel or I doubt it will ever be. Maybe Cecilia had something similar but I can't seem to remember that.
Maybe it had been minutes or perhaps hours…? I can't seem to tell anymore since I've erased every bit of mana that was released for an attack. Curtis's magic spell was horrible to let go of. That spell was covered in more motes of pure mana than purple motes. If I weren't careful with it, it may have exploded in my face when this form of spell of mine would deactivate.
"M-Maybe it is time it does…" I barely had any strength to even let those words out, if it weren't for my mental fortitude I had built over the years or my stamina I would have fallen a long time ago.
I had no large mana pool like Lukas or Kathyln, I just had an average mana pool but had these unique powers to make up for it.
It was irrational to think I would be a top contender in this continent or in the other. One thing was clear about me and in every action I had made up till now.
I was just a human teenage boy with no source of strong backup. No one was or will be willing to support me when the invasion of the Academy happens. There will be no evidence that Lukas Wykes and Dranevee were the terrorists in that attack.
That's right…Kai…The Professors…Dranevee…Lukas Wykes…
Subconsciously, I had turned to the half-elf boy who indeed didn't ignite his spell and just looked like he was wasting his time being here. I gritted my teeth at such a disgusting idea of having him cause the invasion of this place. Kai wasn't going to be able to leave into that portal when the time comes, hell no. I was going to take them all down…Perhaps this was the right time.
I slowly walked towards the boy who would bring Tessia back into the academy, being held by her hair as she was unconscious. The more I remembered the lines from the novel, the more that my anger was unable to be suppressed. With that, I called for one of my stuck swords. Surprisingly it was the one that wouldn't listen to me when I tried calling for it many times.
Whatever… I had it in my hand now and whatever training I had with it in the past has now washed away seeing as it acknowledged me as its true owner.
I activated my lighting deviant and forced it upon the dark sword. "I will make your death much more painless than what Arthur had given you in the past."
With the minimal mana left inside me, it was enough to conjure and maybe hold the lightning from the blade. The crackle and sparks lit up the emotionless un-vivid place that represented two colors, gray and black.
"Goodbye, waste of oxygen."
I swung my sword directly to his neck, hoping to fully disconnect it from his elven body but something interfered with my swing.
The world around me seemed to regain its color, but what is more, is the mana fluctuations around me…
"When did you arrive?" My eyes turned to the being who had put me in a white room before in our first meeting. "I doubt you are here to re-tell me about the future war happening, or is it something more important seeing as you even brought another one of your friends?"
Behind the asura with black military outfit, stood a tall and dignified old man, perhaps thousands of years older than Windsom. Instantly I knew who this was but I rather keep it a secret that I knew about the future or at least some of it.
"My name is Aldir of the Thyestes Clan. And I will be your future General when the war arrives." His three eyes remained closed when he spoke to me, of course they would, I was, again, no superhuman being who could rival them in any way. Not now at least.
I bowed like a lowly servant, meeting up to Aldir's expectations of a lesser. "Greetings O'great one, I am honored to meet you and Elder Windsom all together. I am known as Luke Hodges, t-the shield of this academy, a Guardian."
His third eye, on top of his two normal eyes, opened in a sight of curiosity. "You are just like how Windsom described."
"Hopefully it was something good." I joked trying to ease the intense atmosphere.
Wisdom, who was just staring at me, turned his galaxy eyes to the elven boy behind me and changed its directive course to my sword. "What were you planning to do with that boy?"
Confused and had forgotten, I picked up the weapon and my hand all together. Only until then had I realized that my true intentions were out at some point but only I knew and the asuras only knew little about.
"I was thinking of getting rid of a possible bigger threat in the future if I were to leave it alone now, but seeing as you came here with a guest I guess there is a need for a conversation?" I tried calling for my other sword but I had no mana left in the tank, so like any other person who isn't a mage, I walked there while having my ears open to their words and statements.
Both asuran heritage beings just spectated me before one of them spoke up, it was the white haired slickback asura. "Luke Hodges, I am going to be frank. My Lord has instructed me that you are to be present when we launch an attack towards the leader of the Alacryan Clan, Agrona Vitra."
My hand stopped adjusting the two sheaths that were supposed to be at my sides. "What?"
ARTHUR LEYWIN POV:
My body ached from being full on pushed by an earthen pillar at god knows what speed. I coughed, trying to get up when I heard Lu's voice.
"Every single one of you guys should prepare your strongest spells as well, because what you were doing was smart, jumping a single enemy who you all consider a threat. However, you need the solid fact that eliminating the threat before the threat becomes more of a problem. Perhaps causing multiple deaths, to this continent and its people."
What is this fool thinking? He can't take all those spells without a scratch.
I managed to open my eyes and witness the most gut wrenching thing most people would hate to watch. Seeing their childhood friend being bombarded with tens of deadly spells that would kill a student like us.
He was going to die.
Dragon's Will, Phase one. Static Voi–
I stopped the words in my mind, when my eyes landed on Luke's hand. He was telling me to stop, he knew what I was thinking and still decided to stop me…
Yet, what nailed the coffin shut was his gentle smile that said, 'please let me do this.'
I gritted my teeth to such an idiotic thought.
Can I really turn a blind eye to this?
My eyes that were fixated on Lu now viewed every detail of the ground before I turned to Lu, this time I was going to use my Dragon Will.
However, Lu wasn't in sight of where he was supposed to be. Dust had risen when the spells landed and everything became hard to see.
'Sylv, can you sense or see Lu?' I sent a mental message to the white fox who had been looking at the fight intensely, and moved to where the benches were, outside the training arena.
Mere moments had passed and I got a message from her back, 'No Papa, I don't sense or see him.'
Having that mental message received, I extended the amount of mana used for my body augmentation about one fold before I could ease the pain in my stomach. My strength had been drained just by staying conscious, even standing on my own two feet was a bit too much for me to handle.
I walked towards the center of the smoke, hoping to see my childhood friend, but all I found was the center of the smoke. No crater or any signs of the spells hitting this place, yet, I couldn't find Luke.
"Luke! Where are you?!" I let out, hoping to hear his response.
After not getting one, I began to hear thuds all around me, one after another.
Concerned, I dashed towards the last sounding thud. My legs hurt like hell when I dashed and did not walk. My field of vision was laid upon the students who sent their spells towards the Guardian. Knocked out cold, but no additional harm was done to them.
'Papa! Many students are falling to the ground!' Sylvie commented.
'Do you know who is doing this, Sylv?'
She mentally shaked her head side-to-side.
'Okay. Can you keep an eye on them for a while? All while I find Tessia.'
Sylvie didn't mentally answer me with words but only with head motions.
Now, where are you Tessia?
Once more, I walked to where Tess was the last time I saw her. Even though there was no one near me, I felt the need to have my guard up just in case.
And thank god I did. A faint but then a strong feeling of mana being used behind me occurred.
Dragon's Will, Phase One. Static Void.
