Chapter 8 - Rise of the New Guardians

A week passed by, and Marvel stood on a stage, being recorded live. She took a deep breath, her voice filled with emotion.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I stand before you today with a heavy heart. It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of the Protectors of the Planet. These brave heroes gave their lives to protect our planet, and we will never forget their sacrifice."

The crowd was silent, their faces somber.

"They were more than just heroes," Marvel continued. "They were our friends, our family. They inspired us to be better, to do better. And though they are gone, their legacy lives on."

Marvel's voice cracked with emotion, but she composed herself.

"But even in death, the Protectors have given us a gift. They have shown us that there are still good people in this world, people who are willing to risk everything to protect others. And I am proud to say that new heroes will rise to the occasion. New heroes who will do anything to protect and serve this beautiful country and our planet."

As Marvel said this, Astrea stepped up onto the stage, her wings spread wide. She smiled, her eyes shining with determination.

"I wouldn't stop until justice is served," Astrea said, her voice firm. "You can always count on me. The Winged Warrior."

The crowd erupted into cheers, and Astrea smiled, waving to the audience.

Later, Astrea walked alongside Marvel in PRISM HQ. Marvel turned to her, her expression serious.

"Astrea, we're hosting trials for new recruits to be part of the new Protectors of the Planet. You'll be in charge of the pick, since you're leading this new team."

Astrea nodded, her eyes shining with excitement.

"Meanwhile, I'll be busy talking to the families that just lost their wives and husbands who used to be the Protectors," Marvel said. "So if you'll excuse me."

A few hours passed, and Astrea stood in front of a crowd of heroes, multiple PRISM agents standing guard.

"Welcome, everyone," Astrea said, her voice firm. "Today, we begin the trials for the new Protectors of the Planet. This is not just a team, it's a family. We're looking for heroes who are willing to risk everything to protect others. Who are willing to work together, to support each other. If you're here, it's because you think you have what it takes. Let's see if you're right."

The trial commenced, and the heroes were paired up to fight each other. The winners would advance to the next round.

One of the heroes, a boy named Droid, caught Astrea's eye. He was 12 years old, and he fought in a iron suit .

Droid was a genius, and he outsmarted his opponents, using gadgets to take them down.

The fights were intense, with each hero giving it their all. But in the end, only a few made it to the final round.

Astrea addressed the final winners, congratulating them on making it into the team.

"The new Protectors of the Planet are: Droid, Volt, Lucid, Aftershock, and Aetherion," she said, smiling.

Each of the heroes had unique powers. Volt had electricity manipulation and intangibility. Lucid had dream walking and illusion casting. Aftershock had seismic energy control. Aetherion had elemental synthesis, able to control the elements.

With the new team in place, they received their first mission as a PRISM agent runs up to astrea and tells her the situation. Electro had broken out of his cell, and he had stolen some tech. The last place he was spotted was in the city of Nectar.

Astrea gritted her teeth, her eyes flashing with determination.

"Let's go," she said, her voice firm.

The team flew to Nectar, following the trail of destruction left by Electro. When they finally found him, Electro remembered Astrea.

"Oh, it's the nameless woman," he said, sneering.

Astrea smiled, her eyes cold. "I go by the Winged Warrior now."

Electro scoffed, looking at the other heroes. "Looks like you got your own band. It won't do you any good, because I'll fry everyone's brains out."

The team charged at Electro, determined to take him down. Electro sneered, his eyes flashing with electricity.

"You think you can stop me?" he said, his voice dripping with confidence. "I'll show you what real power looks like."

Electro unleashed a blast of electricity, striking Volt with a bolt of lightning. Volt stumbled back, his body glowing with electricity.

"Take that, you electrifying fool," Electro said, laughing.

"You seem stronger," Astrea said, her eyes narrowing.

"I've got an upgrade," Electro replied, showing them the backpack on his back. "This little thing is supplying my powers, making me almost unstoppable."

Volt recovered and charged at electro "trying to catch him off guard as electro monologues".

Electro then noticed him at the last moment and shot electricity at him, volt uses his intangibility to phase through Electro's attack. He then counterattacked, striking Electro with a blast of electricity.

Meanwhile, Lucid used her dream walking powers to create illusions of herself, making it seem like she was everywhere at once. Electro spun around, trying to keep track of her.

"I'll get you, you pesky dream walker," Electro said, his voice frustrated.

Aftershock used his seismic energy control to create a shockwave, knocking Electro off balance. Electro stumbled back, his eyes widening in surprise.

"You're not the only one with power," Aftershock said, his voice firm.

Aetherion used her elemental synthesis powers to summon a blast of air, striking Electro with a gust of wind. Electro stumbled back, his eyes narrowing.

"You think you can take me down with your little tricks?" Electro said, his voice sneering.

But Droid was quiet, observing the fight from a distance. He was waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

And then, he saw it. Electro's backpack was vulnerable to attack. Droid quickly launched a missile at the backpack, striking it with precision.

The backpack malfunctioned, and Electro's powers began to falter. The team took advantage of the opportunity, striking Electro with a barrage of attacks.

Astrea landed the final blow, her wings glowing with energy and she flys straight at him as she uppercuts him into the sky. Electro later started to fall back down to the ground as he went through an entire building and finally he hit the earth, unconscious.

The team stood over him, victorious.

"We make a good team," Astrea said, smiling.

"Yeah, we do," Volt replied, grinning.

But they knew that they still had a lot to learn, and that their teamwork would be tested in the future.

Later in the evening, after the team had battled electro.

Astrea flew home, the wind rushing past her as she touched down on the farm field. She walked towards the front door, her parents opening it up to let her in.

"Hey, sweetie," Emma said, smiling. "Welcome home."

Astrea smiled back, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She was home, and she was safe.

As she was going up the stairs to bed, Emma called out to her. "Wow, you are really a protector... I am so proud of you."

Mark, Astrea's dad, wasn't entirely convinced of his daughter's heroics, but he still congratulated her. "Be careful, okay? This isn't a game."

Astrea smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her parents. "Thanks, Mom. Thanks, Dad. I'll be careful."

She continued up the stairs, going to her room and collapsing onto her bed. She was exhausted, but she knew she had made a difference.

Meanwhile, back at PRISM HQ, Marvel stood outside the creature's cell door, her eyes fixed on him. She was determined to get answers.

"Where did you come from?" she asked, her voice firm. "Why are you on Earth?"

The creature didn't reply, and Marvel's frustration grew. She slammed her hand against the door, her eyes flashing with anger.

"You better start talking," she said, her voice menacing.

The creature looked up, his eyes flashing green for a moment. And then, in a low, ominous voice, he spoke.

"I was running," he said. "I am the last of my kind..."
