Ning Zhu saw that Gudong was silent, and asked, "How did your face become like this?"
Gudong did not answer.
Ning Zhu also did not answer, but she took out a round bamboo basket with two holes, large enough to fit over a head, and placed it next to Gudong. She smiled and said, "It's really no big deal, at least you're happier than me."
"Why do you say that?" Gudong finally spoke again, "You're a young lady, unlike us poor folks, who have to work hard every day just to barely get enough to eat."
"I envy you guys because you have more time to rest, whereas I have to learn all sorts of etiquette, and my schedule is packed every day, with no free time at all," Ning Zhu shared her heart's feelings.
"A young lady who doesn't appreciate her good fortune," Gudong quipped.
"What? I'm not that kind of pampered young lady!" Ning Zhu puffed out her cheeks in anger, but their relationship grew closer nonetheless.
"By the way, you didn't run away from home, did you?"
