~ With Aiden ~
"Keep firing! Don't let up! Take them down!" Aiden shouted, the adrenaline surging through his veins as the group continued to successfully eliminate enemy soldiers one after the other.
Despite their success, he knew that they had to act fast. Their position and attack on the stronghold should already be made known to the German side, so reinforcements could arrive at any moment. Even if they managed to eliminate all the enemies gathered at the moment, the opposing team could still respawn near the stronghold while their own could not. So, they needed to capture the stronghold to prevent this from happening.
On the other side, XQCade, who was leading his team separately from the two main groups, noticed the movements of Aiden and the others. "Ah shit! Aiden and the rest have already been spotted!" He spoke, slapping his thigh in frustration.
"What should we do?" One of his squad mates asked. "It's too late to go back and support them. We need to find a way to get in or we'll suffer a big loss."
XQCade took a moment to think of his options before deciding. The original plan could not be carried out due to complications. Returning to support Aiden and Shroud wasn't an option as well since his small team would not make much of a difference.
Instead, they needed to press forward and put the stronghold into a state of contention, preventing enemy soldiers from respawning directly at the stronghold. This would force the enemies to respawn a little further away, opening up a gap in their defences.
"Cade, there are some enemies controlling the machine guns facing our direction."
"Those two are literally camping! While the rest of the enemy soldiers are fighting on multiple fronts, these two are just sitting here and waiting." XQCade muttered with frustration. "If only we had our sniper here, we could take them out easily and storm into the stronghold. . ."
Since it was their first time playing the game, they were not familiar with all the routes, and their main sniper of the group was not part of this small squad. This left them unsure of their ability to take out the machine gunners from a distance.
"Why don't we use smoke grenades to cover our approach? I chose to carry those just in case of situations like these." One of the squad mate revealed. However, XQCade only looked at this member incredulously.
"Why didn't you tell me that earlier? We could've used those much earlier. . ." XQCade exasperatedly said, "We need to be quick, Aiden and the reast might not be able to hold on for too long."
The squad member then threw the smoke grenade, which was followed by a thick grey smoke that was quickly enveloping the area, obscuring the machine gunners' view.
"Move, move, move! Use the smoke as cover and get as close as you can to the stronghold, if you can get in, then get in!" XQCade ordered, blowing onto his whistle to signal his attack.
The squad split up and ran in different directions, using the smoke as cover to approach the enemy. Despite their confidence and skill, they knew that sticking together would be akin to sitting ducks waiting to be picked off by the machine gunners, giving the enemy the advantage.
"Ratatatata"
The enemy machine gunner opened fire immediately when he saw the smoke filling up his vision, unleashing a hail of bullets into the smoke. XQCade felt the vibration of his VR equipment device as he was hit multiple times and went down, his screen turning grey.
'WHY ME?! HOW UNLUCKY WAS THAT!!! I WAS ALL THE WAY AT THE BACK TOO!' He grumbled, frustrated that he was the one who was taken out first while the rest of his squad pressed on. Despite his death, the rest of his teammates managed to stay alive.
"Don't expose yourself, Rain. I'll distract them while you take the killing shots!" One of the squad members shouted.
The machine gunners were being smart, using burst fire to manage the heat of the machine gun and only firing at the areas where they noticed movements and shifts of the smoke. The squad member knew that they needed a distraction so that their best close-range shooter could deal the final blow.
He charged to the left frantically, causing the smoke to shift with his movements and drawing the attention of the enemy machine gunners. In the meantime, Rain, a former professional FPS competitor, emerged from the smoke and took precise shots, quickly eliminating the two machine gunners.
Seeing as the gunners were dead, the rest of the squad emerged from the smoke and made their way into the stronghold, finally putting it in contention. "Cade, when you respawn, join us. We need to hold this position and keep the enemy occupied." Rain said.
Their primary goal was not to capture the stronghold itself, but to put it in contention and create enough chaos to keep the enemy's attention divided onto multiple fronts. If they could do that, the rest of the group would have a better chance on their side of the battle.
As they set up their defences and prepared for any retaliation, Rain couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. They had completed their part of the mission, taking down the enemy team's main defensive feature of the stronghold, immediate and exact respawns. And now, it was up to the rest to seize the opportunity.
