The Fomorian tried to bring his saber down on Kaelira. Lucille's hammer broke the wrist behind it, and Serika drove her burning fist into his opened side before the weapon hit the steps.
Malvek's lower fist caught Lucille's shoulder. She hissed, then swung her magma-coated axe beneath that arm and took it off at the elbow.
"Help!"
Behind Malvek, pirates spilled from the prison's inner stair with Alexios's company driving them toward the broken gate.
"Die, pirates!" Gorruk forced a shield aside for Vargis's axe, opening a gap for the elven archers behind them. The humans and dwarves kept their wounded covered as they advanced, while the scarred sailor's spear caught a pirate turning toward Alexios's back.
Blood ran into Skarn's eye, and Gorruk's forearm was bleeding freely. Ordinary guards had forced the four lords to rely on one another to survive, leaving them painfully aware of how far Iskaris's strongest stood below the apex of this world.
