Seo-yeon starts to unravel the truth behind the boys in the photograph

The photograph, a yellowed rectangle of history, glared back at her from the cluttered screen like an old wound, largely closed, its contours smoothed by the inexorable movement of time, but still sensitive to the merest touch, a quiet reminder of a pain that had been raw and open.

Seo-yeon remained still since that tentative click in opening the reunion photo, the screen of her laptop now an anarchic splintering into a fuzzy multitude of children posing stiffly and formally in lines, their innocence and ugliness in their gawky, smiling faces now a contrast to the storm swirling inside her.
