Chapter 55 - ...

Amun was passing by an ally with a peculiar gift that allowed him to sharpen the edges of his hands and forearms, and wield them like swords, cutting through those who challenged him.

When Heidi appeared.

Taken aback by the unexpected appearance of the Volturi's siren, he instantly retreated as she unleashed her gift, whispering sweet nothings to those around her, turning ally into foe.

"Damnit, something is seriously wrong here," cursed Amun, observing the battle.

"What is it?" asked Kebi.

"The Volturi's gifted are here, and not just a few of them," said Amun as he spotted another two gifted fighting his allies, one of which must have been the ability to induce illusionary foes for his opponents to fight as an ally vamp swung wildly in the air at nothing, and the other with bright red hands that easily tore through his enemies like a hot knife through butter while setting their venom a light.

A blur whooshed by, faster than any vampire could ever hope to go, taking the heads off their Volturi foes, normal and gifted alike, with the greatest of ease.

"Jason!" Amun called out, gaining the speedster's attention.

"Amun," said Jason, appearing as if out of thin air before him if not for the wind and debris kicked up by his abrupt appearance.

"This doesn't bode well, I've been doing my best to take out their gifted, but there are many," said Jason.

"This battle is already lost. I did not expect all their gifted to come fight us. I know not why they are here and not with the main group facing the wolves. The best we can do is take out those twins and retreat. Think you can handle it?" asked Amun.

"I can," said Jason confidently.

"Careful, should one of them get a chance to react to your movements and hit you with their gift, it's all over. Also be wary of Heidi's voice over there, lest you fall under her vile spell," warned Amun.

"I know," said Jason, and he was gone in a flash.

"Where is Betsy? She'd be perfect for taking out Heidi, and where are those damn Romanians?" asked Amun, unable to spot them. Those two should have been in the thick of things, going at it, and yet they were nowhere to be seen. If he didn't know any better, he would have thought they ran for it.

"Remember, she was relegated to the edges so as not to affect our side with her wails... I think that's her now," said Kebi as a loud, deafening screech was heard in the distance.

"Right, let's go get her," said Amun, flinching away when a bright light hit their eyes. One of their allies had the peculiar gift of making his skin shine, becoming a blinding ball of light, a tough foe for anyone when the best you can do is squint at him and still only see the light ball, forcing you to guess where his hits were coming from, making him absurdly difficult to fight against.

.

On the left side of the battle, Ben came upon Siobhan, Liam, and Maggie holding their own.

Siobhan was about to finish one when two more came to help, and Liam stepped up, taking blows that would have destroyed any regular vamp before dishing out his own.

Maggie was proving too much for another as the man tried everything he could, pulling out all the tricks, only for her to see right through them and aggressively overcome him despite being far less skilled.

When another few vamps turned their attention towards them, Ben arrived, using the earth to trip and trap them as it opened to swallow them, allowing the three to take them out without issue.

"Thanks for the assist," said Maggie cheerily.

"No problem, any gifted show-up?" asked Ben.

"One, it wasn't an issue," answered Siobhan, meeting another vampire who charged at them.

"Strange. I would have expected more. I hear the other side isn't faring as well," said Ben, having caught things in the wind. Flicking his hand towards another group, blowing them away with wind and earth.

Liam and Maggie glanced at Siobhan, who rolled her eyes, keeping their thoughts to themselves.

"We should retreat, this isn't winnable. Our center group has already been decimated," said Siobhan after dispatching another foe.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Amun thinks the same thing, but he wants me to try to take out the twins first. Will you help me?" asked Ben.

"We... Maggie!" shouted Siohban with wide eyes, as one of her arms got torn off fighting two at once.

Liam and Siobhan raced to her aid as Ben wielded the earth to throw her attackers away.

"Fuck me, I'm sorry, I should have been there," said Liam, helping her up.

"It's my fault, I drifted too far away from the group without realizing it," said Maggie, taking her fallen arm from Siohban.

Meanwhile, Ben rushed the two who landed in the middle of another group. Using the earth to jump higher, he landed in the middle of them, creating a bang with his earth powers, sending everyone flying in all directions. Confused and disoriented, they failed to stop themselves from being pulled back towards him as the elements sucked them in.

Unleashing a wave of flame, wind, and earth, they found themselves in a tornado of hell as they were pulled up into the air and battered left, right, and center by rocks and nearby trees that tore apart when grabbed.

The wounded didn't last as the flames ate away at their venom, and the others weren't any luckier as they were tossed about, eventually being thrown to allies who finished them off.

"Impressive, though your attacks seem to have trouble penetrating our skin," Siobhan pointed out, walking over to him with her group.

"Yeah, it takes a bit more concentration to damage one of us than I'd like to use on them," said Ben.

"It seems we owe you one. We'll help you go after the twins once and then retreat, assuming your powers can damage us," Siobhan said skeptically, thinking how the tornado must have taken quite the focus despite what he said.

"It can, I assure you. With enough pressure, I can tear any vamp apart," Ben reaffirmed.

Trusting him to at least keep them safe, Siobhan agreed to help and began their push to the twins.

.

Demetri oversaw the battle from the center with the twins by his side, enjoying the show. It didn't matter how much of a fight they put up; they were all doomed to die, and with it any lingering rebellious feelings floating around out there against the Volturi. This fight would cement their rule for eons to come.

Alec and Jane once more performed beyond expectations, securing the center of the battle in short order. It was the sides that were becoming an issue, particularly the left, where Amun fled. A couple of dangerous, gifted opposition were becoming far more troublesome than he would have expected, and he didn't want to risk the twins getting too close until he had a full grasp of their capabilities.

At least they still had one hidden gem no one knew about, Demetri thought, watching as one of those dangers grew closer by the second.

Jason was zooming towards them at speeds unheard of, a trail of blur snaking through the battlefield, leaving headless Volturi in its wake.

"Dariel, you're up, take care of it," ordered Demetri, giving him ample space as he and the rest backed away.

Despite his speed, with enough distance, they could still see the direction the speedster was heading, allowing Dariel time to set up his gift. Intending to trap him as a bubble exploded outwards, still catching a few comrades at the edge who didn't back up enough. Slowing to the point where they looked frozen.

Unfortunately, when the speedster hit it, he didn't freeze like the others, only slowing to the point of a regular vampire's speed.

Both their eyes widened in shock, Dariel at his ability to still move normally, and Jason's at being forced to move normally.

Then Jason charged, and Dariel scowled at having to fight; thankfully, he had trained a little since he couldn't always use his gift. Going at the speedster with a determined focus, knowing he might be the only one able to stop him.

"Jane, try and help him," Demetri frowned, looking worriedly at Dariel. Regretting that they never once tried to test if they could use gifts outside his bubble to affect people inside.

Suddenly, two unknown vamps fell upon the twins, each grabbing one of their heads.

Jane instinctively called upon her gift, able to cripple the would-be attacker in time, but Alec wasn't so lucky as Stefan tore his head off.

Demetri spun around and sprinted at Stefan along with the other guards.

Stefan jumped back up the tree and leapt away as far as he could, making a run for it, looking back only once at Vladimir with sorrow.

Jane tried to use her gift to stop him, but the minute she let up on Vlad, he struck, forcing her to hit him with it again in fury as the guards arrived to tear his head off.

Angrily grabbing a torch from one of the designated torch bearers, Jane went to finish him, but Demetri stopped her, "Don't, we may need him to trade back for your brother's head."

Then they both looked up as Ben came flying in, hands outstretched with flames spewing out, ready to finish Alec off.

Demetri quickly threw Vlad's body in the way and pulled Alec's body and Jane to safety as she unleashed her gift on him, crying, "Nooo!" as Vlad's body went up in a blaze, thinking of her brother's safety.

Crashing down in uncontrollable pain, Ben watched helplessly as the guards closed in on him.

Siobhan, Liam, Maggie, and even Tia surprisingly showed up to save him.

Tia rushed to his side, as the other three held the guards off.

Ben looked at her in shock and worried confusion. Didn't they agree she would stay safe?

Tia smirked, "You think I'd leave you alone, you should know me better than that," running away with him.

"Kill them!" ordered Demetri, urging the surrounding guards on.

Feeling the walls closing in, Liam pushed Maggie back, taking a blow meant for her, "Run, I got this, I'll hold them off."

"No, we can all escape," argued Maggie.

"No, we can't. Siobhan, take her," said Liam as another tried to pass him.

Siobhan kicked her foe away and grabbed Maggie, dragging her away, "You heard him, was he lying?" she asked, killing the last of Maggie's resistance.

Demetri scowled as he looked from them to Dariel, who was struggling with the speedster. "Jane, help Dariel. We'll take care of them later. It was only a body. We still have the head to trade for Alec. Stefan won't risk killing his most important bargaining chip," he promised.

Inside the bubble, Dariel and Jason were evenly matched due to their limited time of fighting anyone who wasn't far slower than them.

By the time she gave up her gift's attack on Ben, it was already too late for him to help Liam, as the man was torn apart by five vamps working together.

Turning her attention to the speedster, Jane was a second too slow as Dareil had his head ripped off with a vicious bite from Jason. Unfortunately for him, he was hit by immense pain before he could zoom away.

Demetri sighed in relief at the close call and the sound of victory as the opposition called for a retreat, saving what little of the rebels remained for however long they could run from his pursuit, as he planned to track every one of them down later and slaughter them to the last man.
