Chapter 18 - Adventure guild (2)

Ray approached the reception desk, the din of the tavern-like interior buzzing in his ears. The beautiful blonde receptionist looked up from her papers, a hint of surprise crossing her face as she saw the young boy standing before her.

"Good evening. How can I help you?" she asked, her voice warm but tinged with curiosity.

"I'd like to register as an adventurer," Ray replied, trying to keep his tone steady despite the growing tension within him.

The receptionist blinked, clearly taken aback.

"You want to register as an adventurer? Are you sure? You look quite young. How old are you?"

Ray met her gaze unwaveringly. "I'm thirteen."

She paused, her eyes scrutinizing him. "Thirteen, huh? Are you absolutely certain you want to proceed with this? It's not a decision to be taken lightly."

Ray nodded firmly. "Yes, I'm sure."

The receptionist sighed, shaking her head slightly as she reached beneath the desk. She produced a form and laid it out on the counter.

"Alright then. Fill out this form. We need to gather some basic information before we can finalize your registration."

Ray took the form, noting the simple design. It was made of leather and had several blank spaces. He picked up a nearby pen and settled down at a table to complete it. The form read:

---

**Name:** ___________________________

**Age:** ___________________________

**Gender:** ________________________

**Elements:** ______________________

**Weapons:** _______________________

**Hometown:** ______________________

---

Ray's eyes traced the lines of the form. His mind was already racing. For "Name," he hesitated, memories of his past life surfacing. "Sylvr" felt right despite the weight it carried. For "Age," he filled in "13" without a second thought. Under "Gender," he simply wrote "Male."

Next, he considered "Elements." He thought about his powerful Mana and decided to list "Fire" to align with his preferred combat style while keeping the rest concealed. For "Weapons," he chose "Sword," a reliable choice that could fit many situations.

Finally, for "Hometown," he wrote "Silvermist City," as the owner of this body was born and raised in this city.

He looked over the completed form, his finger hovering over the "Name" section. The name "Sylvr" brought a pang of nostalgia, but he knew it was a necessary alias. After a deep breath, he filled it in and gathered his things.

Ray walked back to the reception desk, the form clutched in his hand. The receptionist took it from him and scrutinized it carefully. After a moment, she placed the form in a drawer and reached for a small crystal ball nestled on a red pillow.

"This," she said, lifting the ball,

"is a verification crystal. It will help us determine if you have any criminal records. Place your hand on it, please."

Ray hesitated, eyeing the glowing orb with a mix of apprehension and curiosity. The ball was smooth and cool to the touch, glowing faintly in the dim light of the reception area.

Seeing his hesitation, the receptionist explained, "If the crystal glows red, it means you're a wanted criminal. If it glows green, you're clear."

Ray slowly placed his hand on the crystal. He watched with bated breath as the orb's light shifted. Moments later, the ball's glow turned a reassuring green. Ray's shoulders relaxed slightly.

The receptionist put the crystal ball back into the drawer and asked Ray " Wait here for a few minutes ". She took the form again and headed to a room inside. Ray waited for a few minutes before seeing her coming out.

She had a bronze colored card in her hands. She handed it to Ray with a serious expression.

"This is your adventurer card. It's essential that you keep it safe. If you lose it, you'll have to pay a penalty to replace it."

Ray took the card and examined it. His name was engraved on it along with a few other details.

"Thank you,"

he said, his voice as cold as ever. "Could you explain more about what being an adventurer entails?"

The receptionist nodded, her demeanor softening a bit. "Certainly. As an adventurer, you'll take on various quests and missions assigned by the guild. These can range from simple delivery tasks to dangerous hunts. Your performance will be tracked, and you'll earn rewards based on the difficulty of the tasks you complete."

She continued, "There are different ranks in the guild, starting from Bronze up to Diamond. Your card will be updated with your rank as you gain experience. You can also visit the guild anytime to check for available quests or to seek assistance."

Ray listened intently, absorbing the information. "Is there anything specific I should know about the guild's operations?"

The receptionist smiled slightly. "Yes. Always make sure to check the bulletin board for new quests. It's also important to maintain good relations with other adventurers and guild members. Building a reputation can lead to more lucrative and prestigious assignments."

"Got it," Ray said, nodding. "Thanks for the information. I'll make sure to follow all the guidelines."

She gave him a friendly nod. "If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask and if you want to take a quest then go and check the bronze level quests entailed there."

Ray nodded and turned to leave because he has to return home before dawn...
